So I understand Mythic just had a get together at their office where they gave 30 websites all expense paid trips to look at stuff about WAR. Why was no one from here there? I know this isn't a dedicated WAR site, but I guarantee this site gets more MMO traffic than all but the top couple of WAR dedicated sites. Anyway, here's a link to Movies, pics and stuff. There's also the first movie of a marginally attractive femal elf in her underwear. Dammit Mythic, make much hotter elves. We all expect the Empire chicks to look sort of frumpy, but damn you to hell if you make Dark Elf chicks moderatly attractive girl-next-door types.

Also, even though some of the areas weren't completely done, people who say the game looks like ass are crazy. And wrong... really wrong. Also, where the hell are the beta invites?

Edited to ask, why the fuck is some motherfucker talking about raids in the World Art and Capital Cities movie? Raids? No motherfuckers, put no fucking raids in this game. And you're not allowed to just call them something else.

He was talking about the fact that you need several groups of players to go that far (i.e. Raid...). What did you expect? To be able to walk in there alone?
He was NOT talking about instances, if thats what you fear. No PvE Instances.....

Overall it was a blast.... i still can t believe what we saw in the capital cities, to conquer them (including sacking and pillaging) you will really need an army.....

If this was a PR event, it's safest to invite only the friendliest of sites. Not those that would look at WAR cockeyed and say, "So, why should we care?".

Did you care about DAoC? If so, you should probably care about WAR. If not, then no.

Man, who cares about this kind of PR bullshit?  It's gonna come out, and you're either gonna buy it or not.  If you're smart, you'll wait a week to see if there are reports of flying tanks and shit first.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'covering' though, since all i've seen so far is "omfg guyth, they liek took ush to teh offices omgomg they haev liek postars11`onesopejn" - which in my mind isn't exactly coverage per-se. I suppose this would be the reason why they are called 'fan' sites.

Yeah.  I've been places before where this goes on and all I can say is at least the food was free.  Looking around at all the fanboys just in ecstasy was amusing, but it got old after about 30 minutes.

I tried using the ancient Zen techniques my father passed down to me whilst waiting for a beta invite for this game, but I have failed.  Renewed my WoW account so I could play Trudie, the pink haired female gnome mage that lives deep inside of me.

What's wrong with instanced PvE zones?  There are several in EQ2 that are great fun.

For instance (heh), there is one called Nektropos Castle where as you explore it you get this story-line of a mad wizards 6 (murdered) daughters that culminates in going into his lab where he is creating golems from body parts.  It's twisted and pretty cool and the fact that it's an instance means the story can be told from beginning to end without having to fight with other parties over the spawns needed to advance the story.

Seconded.  Not EQ, necessarily, but about instances.  I liked 'em in COH, and I like 'em in WoW.

I tend to think the "no instances, evar!!!" crowd have never had the pleasure of camping Guk.  Fuck that noise, I'll take my own private dungeon romp any day, thanks.

Note I didn't watch anything.   You are talking about PvP raids right?   If there are PvE raids outside of an instance this game is doomed.

Nothing's wrong with instanced PvE zones. The issue angry.bob had (I think) is adding PvE Raiding ala the raiding in endgame WoW, where you are there to repeat the same predictable and soon-boring content over and over just to get your 1% chance of a drop. This is semi-acceptable to some people in a game focused on PvE as it is one of the proven methods to get people to continue their cycle of content consumption (albeit at a much slower pace). But it is at odds with a game focused on PvP. If you have endgame raiding and endgame PvP, you've already compartmentalized the players, lessening the "impact" one activity or the other has the game as a whole. If you've got enough talent, staff and players, ala WoW, that's fine. But if you're an unlaunched game that doesn't know how many people it will get, it's risky, particularly if your message all along has been PvP and activities directly related to it/

angry.bob's problem with raids is that raiding fucking sucks, regardless if it's PvE or PvP. Anything at all in a PvP game that a primetime raider can do and get l33t rewards for that an off peak, 3:00am player can't get because he's lucky to scrape together a competent group of 5 people breaks the game. Period, and there's no fucking arguing around that. It was firmly proven with the assery they introduced in TOA. Anything they introduce via a PvP raid better have an exact (statwise) equivalent attainable by a solo player with a few hours of extra playing. Note I said playing, not work. Also, mandatory grouping will make the game fucking suck too. If a person can't log in for an hour, get right to fighting that will work towards character improvement the game is never going to break DAoC numbers.

Also, if your own employee at an buzz-generating get-together turns on a speed-hack to climb a set of stairs in town, laughs and says "Well, by this point you should have a horse", and still takes 5 minutes to get to the top of the thing, maybe you should make a less windy stairway. Honestly, movement speeds in DAoC were a bitch. Don't repeat the mistake.

And I reiterate: Make hotter elves please.

Seriously. I guess all the emails and IMs and phonecalls surrounding E3, AGC and other events are just our little circlejerk.

We're actually surprisingly well-organized when it comes to sending people to events, so long as we know about them, have people able/willing to go, and are invited (in the case of private events). I used to write for a different gaming network, and I've spoken to a lot of journalists - F13's organizational skills are on par with, if not better than, most.

As for coverage, we always have at least one large article coming out of each major event. What actually gets seen and written up depends largely on what gets written up elsewhere, as well as how big an impression the event has. You don't need the umpteenth Halo 3 preview, but maybe you'd be interested in, for example, Work Time Fun or the Novint Falcon?

I think we should have a traveling F13 team for these types of events.

Of course, I would be part of it.

Slay: The mouth-breathing PVP FFA Full looting guy

Schild: Would wander around explaining exactly why the game will suck to anyone that will listen

Signe: Would compare it to Asian MMOs

WUA: Would make sure noone can even look at his miner the wrong way

sinji: Would flip out and attack WUA (unprovoked) and take his wallet and run off

Rasix: Would move the guys that are fighting out to the street

angry.bob: Would walk around, generally pissed off

grunk: Would ensure cockblocks (and stabs of course) and horrible, soul crushing grinds

and so on and so forth. Add your own if you're as bored as I am.

I played EQ on vz in the upper 50s between velious and luclin, and i dislike the idea of instancing.  The only exception in which I might prefer them is for quests, but I wouldn't want any such quest to be repeatable.  I also played L2 for a few years and would strongly favor fairly open pvp, both with large penalties for death and with high risk for the killer.

I'm not sure what you mean.

I dislike instancing and restricted or lacking pvp because they conflict with the openness of social interaction.  They move the game in the direction of a single player moreso than a multiplayer game.  Together, they limit interaction, and prevent you from solving disputes when they do arise; you either have to yield to the game, the GMs, or do nothing.  I'm usually very uninterested in the pve aspect of mmos, but very interested in the economy and politics.  So I favor things which enhance the economy and politics, and put more freedom and potential into the players' hands.

I never camped in guk (was this name used in a different game or something?), sorry, and it wasn't that common of a place at the time I played.  I've camped various overcrowded things, which I assume was your point.  The only times it bothered me was when I had no means to resolve the issue, due to pvp restrictions.  If I hadn't enjoyed it though, I wouldn't have played.  I would not have played EQ if profitable zones were instanced, and I would not have played EQ on a blue server.  To be honest, I don't really know much about UO, except that you could cut down trees or something.  That sounds neat.

So anyway, I don't really understand your point.  It seems like you're just trying to debase two separate arguments regarding individual preferences by making unrelated generalizations.  IMHO.

Because then we begin to wonder "REALLY, WHY SHOULD WE CARE?"

You might wonder, but players out there searching for WAR information that can only be found on fanboi sites that have all been wined and dined are less discriminating.

You might think caveat emptor in that case, of course. However, if I read from a number of sources that a game is good, I'm likely to view it positively and might buy it. Something like WAR, which doesn't have much real info on the ground (or that's been publically reported and I'm not in the beta, so I don't know personally, I'm interested in knowing about how good it is. If all the fanboi sites - and some fanboi sites cunningly disguised as impartial sites - say it's good, they might just trick me into purchasing a game I won't like.

yes im a gaming nub in sum wayz
