Yes, but I didn't get to chose, our guide went and 'arranged' it for us.

Are you in Peru? Yup did the 4 day hike to go here: Snip Wow, what a crazy coincidence.  My girlfriend an I just got back from there, we have almost the same picture.  Were you there in October by chance? That place is stunning.  I have over a thousand pictures, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone, just watch out for the altitude around Cuzco and Sacred Valley.

Yes, but I didn't get to chose, our guide went and 'arranged' it for us. So did they bring it out with the head on the platter like I've heard happens, or did not do it because you're Americans?

Not that this is exciting as Peru, but we're getting our kitchen remodeled ... dang is it hard to live without a kitchen sink. Only 2 more weeks, waiting for the countertops! Got dust all over the house too, what a pain. But it'll be worth it, in 6 months when I forget about the pain.

Went out to the Festival of Trees today.  Caught a bit of the Milkshake show.  It's a former rock band (Love Riot) that started doing kids rock awhile back and they put on a pretty damn decent show.   Kids go completely crazy for it and unlike most kids tunes, their songs don't cause me to start bleeding from my ears.

Latest additions to my growing Le Creuset collection. Williams and Sonoma is a very dangerous place Mainly because everything they sell is god awfully expensive. I mean, we saw this yesterday: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/fd301_1/Handcrafted Marshmallows, a box of 15 for $17    Congrats on the cookware acquisitions though.  Very  nice quality.

Yea, I really can't imagine why someone would want a Le Creuset over the legendary budget brand, Tramontina.    Ah, schild's knowledge of culinary quality. I'm sure you're face-palming me because you've used both and have the slightest clue of which you speak.

I think it's safe to say that Le Creuset is slightly overpriced because they have brand awareness and a reputation for quality, but also that it is a considerably better product than Tramontina, both in terms of quality and value. The Chinese are not known for making quality enamelled cast-iron cookware, and you'll find out when the thin enamel chips and the unseasoned iron rusts and pits.

Eh, I didn't mean to make it into some kind of big deal. I've had mine for years and they're great. And at $40 for the 6.5q, I'll just go ahead and buy a new one if it chips, since I can afford six for the price of one Le Creuset. I'm happy you guys can afford thousands of dollars worth of cookware, I was pointing out an alternative for the rest of us.
I use a $25 victorinox chef knife, too. You can have a good kitchen for cheap.

I've always been a fan of Lodge cast iron stuff, though their enameled cookware is also sourced from China.    Also: Giant leopard moth I spotted outside the office:

I'll just keep buying "food service" grade restaurant cookware, 90% of the quality on the factors that actually matter for about 10% of the price.  My chef's knife may have a plastic handle, but takes an edge to put a straight razor to shame, and holds it long enough to carve a full ribeye into steaks.  It cost me $12 for two of them (haven't needed to break the second out of the blister pack yet after 5 years).
