Ah, I see. I haven't really tried to do this at all in the field, though I did used to have an iPad in my camera backpack.

Yeah, I should clarify, that the thing I was missing in Lr was the mirrored Live View screen. I don't really care about having no remote control feature in Lr - it wouldn't really make sense for Adobe to add it anyway as they'd have to make it compatible with so many different models and brands, it would be a significant amount of effort to keep it updated. They don't even always manage to support new RAW formats for major brands, I can't imagine how they'd handle a Fuji firmware update that changes the way that XA2s report aperture info to the body or something.

I love my TV an' hug my TV an' call it 'George'.

Are you in the beta fork, Iain? I swear they had live view in there. I can check when I get home. I booted up my old beta build and I do see a "Lv" button on the tether floating window.
edited to add: yeah, they're working on live view for Canon and Nikon as of Aug 21
edited edited edited to addited: Looking over the current patch notes, there is focus control through the tether window if the lens is in AF mode. I also see other controls...I'll have to play with it Sunday (got roped into Hamilton on Sat, hope it doesn't suck).

So I discovered a new setting on my Pixel and had fun playing with it: It really looks awesome in VR mode on the phone.

Moved into my new apartment last week. Same building, just higher up and on the other side of the building. This is the view from there. IMG_2627.jpg by Iain Compton, on Flickr

Lol, did you somehow get a cheaper apartment in the same building but on a higher floor?
Nice pic though!

I was about to ask if that was Battersea Power Station in the background, then I saw the filenames.
Nice pics.

That is not even a particularly bad example. This was shot from the stairs of a local Skytrain station. 000044.jpg by Iain Compton, on Flickr

Does that sign say something like “if you are close enough to read this you are probably getting cancer”?

Just an FYI, those should all be telephone and internet lines. Power lines are higher up.

In the US you have to do a load analysis on each pole of your route when you are adding a new line (or set of lines) to a pole. Here they just wait for it to fail - oops, one too many!

In the first pic, the three lines at the top with the big insulators separating them from the pole should be the medium voltage distribution lines. The insulators should be at least twice the length that the power can arc to ground, so pretty certain anyone getting within a couple inches of those top lines will be electrocuted, no need to touch them even! Where the f*k is the ground line though??? Are they relying on ground loops??? You don't want to step in a puddle, or shower even, anywhere in that country!) The next layer down with the small insulators is the stepped down local feed I'd guess, household current, either 220V or 110V, not sure which they use. You can see the boxes between the two layers on the poles which house the transformers converting the voltage. In the US we tend to use big cans that look like garbage cans mounted on the poles, filled with some kind of oil for heat dissipation. Used to be PCBs but I think they've gone to something a little less toxic anyway. Bet those things with no oil tanks almost glow at peak loads in the tropical heat. All the rest is phone and cable. Lots and lots of fiber from the looks of it. And here we are looking at some beautiful properties 10 miles from town and saying "nope" because they won't even run coax cable to it. Yay for Free Markets. :/ The coils tied up everywhere are used to replace lines that get broken with a single splice instead of needing to bring in cable AND make two splices. Splicing fiber in the field is still kinda hard, reduces bandwidth a little bit each time, and is much more expensive than just putting up dozens of feet of extra glass every few hundred feet just in case. And if something falls on a fiber line, the glass stretches and fractures along several feet rather than just a single point, so a fair amount of cable needs to be replaced. The cement poles is a nice touch. Very sturdy. Screw any occupants of vehicles who hit them, the power/internet must stay on!

I'm still kind of stuck on doing portraits and street work. I really want to; when I do it I like it. But it unreasonably scares me.

Just Take Pictures I went to the park the other day, did some IR stuff which I haven't finished editing yet, and some macro stuff with off-camera flash. Was super not easy with the camera in one hand, speedlight in the other, and a working distance of maybe 8-10mm from the bug. I need to get an accessory rail for that I think.
