That first picture is very cool.

Here's one for people who like sports not played in the US:

Man.  What Camera/Lens/Settings did you use to take those pictures Khaldun?

My new wide-angle lens--a Sigma 10-20mm, Nikon d3100. I really like what you can do with it on a portrait orientation--I totally see now why wide-angles are almost a necessity for architectural photography.

Picked up a new lens on Saturday; Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC.

Here are a few shots from that night of some iconic Vancouver buildings:

Nice shots. I like the second one especially. Wish I could find a good place to shoot the nearby skyline--best place I can think of is a skeevy industrial bridge where I'd probably be picked up by cops or mugged if I tried it.

Lovely shots. I wish the supports on the bridge could be easily photoshopped and removed!

Thnks for the compliments!

As for the bridge supports I kinda wanted them in there, I felt the added some foreground interest. :p

Th images lose a bit of impact at these smaller sizes. I originally cropped tehm for my desktop at home (2560 x 1440)

As always, the stuff posted here blows me away, while I just take pictures of bugs.  Nice pics, all.

Just some snapshots as per thread title, not photo-art as the previous entries.

Cam across a spring parade today. I thought grandmothers with the golden hats looked cute.

Grandmothers are super-cute. Second shot looks like a grumpy quasi-Disney princess snuck into the line of soldiers.

I'm in Kiev for a week. Hotel is an awesome art-deco affair.

Oh those look fabulous!  Hotel staff would have to keep kicking me out from behind the desk because I'd be back there studying those.  Cool way to do world clocks, too.

Awesome. I think that's Art Nouveau rather than Deco though.  wink

Thanks. I uploaded it to 500px last night and it's getting a lot of attention there. It was definitely worth standing around like a chump for 40 minutes waiting for the hall to be clear long enough to take  a photo. I had a couple where there are no people at all but I think the single, distant figure makes it seem even more desolate somehow. I also had a policeman try and shake me down for a bribe just after taking that shot too.

I really the like colour contrast in the army pic, red and black make a really striking combination.

I went diving last week near Koh Lanta in Thailand, here are a few pics (ended up with well over 300, normally on a trip I've got like 30 or 40 photos):

A young whale shark came over and just swam around for about an hour. Eventually got I bored before he did.

An artsy shot for shits and giggles, you can actually see the sea horse being photographed in my shot (as well as the ridiculous extent to which colour is affected by depth)

Had fun on a neat little wreck.

Some awesome Zebra/Leapord sharks at Koh Bide. They were also super chill and I got to see two of them swimming together for a while too. With the very, very brief sight of a Blacktip on an earlier dive it brought it up to 3 different shark species in one week of diving.

How deep was it where the whale shark showed up? 80-100ft?

Looks awesome, I need to get diving again! Never used a camera while diving, just might have to now. (Would have loved to snap a pic of the baby seahorse I saw 10 seconds after jumping in, at Roatan).

I'm stuck working in meters so not totally sure about feet. That said he was pretty much at 1-3m so I guess closer to 3-9ft? I was actually snorkelling at that point since he turned up 3 minutes after I finished my dive. If you've got a compact camera housings aren't totally ridiculous (thinking closer to the same price as the camera rather than some of the bigger ones). Gopros are also really, really popular. If I'm honest with myself for 70-80% of the pictures I take, a GoPro would do just as good a job. Once you're past about 10m then you need some sort of colour correction feature. Below 15-20m then you really need to bring your own lighting for good colour. Flash on the compact works of for macro things, larger range you need strobes and other crazy fun things that make anyone you might be diving with hate you.

Another bug - this time a walking stick found climbing on my apartment building.  Nighttime, so my phone's flash made for some funky shadows.
