Hay guys, what's going on in this thread?
I just had a dream that I was playing a game like Vanguard - Saga of Heroes, except it was an MMORPG with hundreds of players online.
What do you guys think?

I must say you guys sure have gave the noobie some slack here, I think you should den and bronze it personally. My thread is getting lonely all by itself with that honor.
Or, just make fun of him for a few more days. That works too.

I've found a list of online fighting games here. KwanHo is on there and looks good, but from what else I've read server lag can be a big issue. Looks nice though.

I've heard of a bunch of people that play Kwan Ho and like it a lot.
I have a high tolerance for newbs and their crazy awesome idea to make the next "Diablo plus Warcraft!!!" or whatever...I was one myself once.

Twice you have used the "roll eyes" smiley when someone makes a comment which you deem unbecoming of your oh so great first thread. That really is not a good way to ingratiate yourself into any type of community, it comes across as you thinking your shit doesn't stink. But if you were one who pays attention to even the most basic undercurrents of this particular community you would realize that here, EVERYONE'S shit has some negative effect on the olfactory apparatus. Even the guys with the fancy colored names (sometimes especially so). As is par for the course, I expect a nice rolleye smiley to come my direction on this.

I wonder what the threshold is for rolling eyes and breaking computers. I won't try it though "Diablo plus Warcraft!!!" You just ripped off Dungeon Runners!/11/ (I kid, I kid)

I must say you guys sure have gave the noobie some slack here, I think you should den and bronze it personally. My thread is getting lonely all by itself with that honor. Your thread? Man, it was at least partly mine! Anyway, this thread isn't nearly as awesome. It doesn't deserve to be bronzed. Now once upon a time, on UO Stratics, somewhere in-between my bouts of getting banned, I saw a post... This guy was an MMO enthusiast, see. And he too wanted to make his own game. So he started laying it out. I don't mean he threw together a design document, this guy wasn't that savvy. He just started writing... everything. All the zones, all the quests, all the mobs, how many HP everything had, how much damage different player attacks could do, how much mana all the spells cost, everything. On paper. He said it took years. And he was there at UO Stratics asking if anyone knew how he could get in touch with someone who knew something about computer programming or how to make a game, because he didn't know anything and didn't know anyone who did. If this place had existed at the time, I'd have "helpfully" sent him here. I suppose it could have been some sort of epic troll, but it didn't seem like it. THAT would have been a thread worth saving for posterity.

I'm sorry, when I put I thought it clearly meant "thank you sir may i have another?" but seriously, what is the purpose of your post, to say that I should humbly accept such statements and not rebuke them openly with my -apparently- powerful ? I never once said it was my "oh so great first thread" In fact, most people have been pretty helpful, and refreshingly so, less ... ish. Its glaringly apparent you make wild assumptions about me (that i think my shit doesn't stink, that i think this is my wonderful super disney epic adventure first thread) to clear it up for you (before you develop some more wild assumptions) I think this thread in retrospect was illconceived, and probably pretty stupid. And for the record, my shit stinks pretty bad.

I wasn't gonna say anything, but this repeated eye-rolling thing makes me feel comfortable with being a bit of a dick again (Ultimately my conscience will take any excuse it can get). So in response to: I'm not sure where I said i thought it was a really cool idea, I said there was many ways to make this a really cool idea.
I present you with: forgot to say, thanks for the comments, i was just curious if anyone else thought it was a cool idea.

I'm pretty sure thats why I said "im not sure" as in "i could be wrong" and apparently I was, I don't know why you feel you are being a dick by supposedly "pointing out" something I alluded could possibly be the case anyway? Hate to burst your bubble :P

There is too much space at the bottom of your post, Jayce. I have wasted several minutes waiting for something to load there. Or was that your intention all along? Weird. I checked it by using the modify button and there's no whitespace at the end. I blame Trippy.

EVERYONE'S shit has some negative effect on the olfactory apparatus. Even the guys with the fancy colored names (sometimes especially so).
/shakefist Really, though, I am easy on new people because we keep scaring them away. Zonk doesn't come around anymore and doesn't even answer my well-thought-out voicemails or my suggestive photos sent via XBL. Besides that, my debut on F13 involved pointing out the homosexual overtones between Sam and Frodo without using any capital letters, so who am I to throw stones?

ideas that require technical hurdles to overcome are exactly what the industry needs to push the envelope.
I think that what the industry needs is to overcome the hurdles. New ideas that create more hurdles are everywhere, we need to STOP the ideas and get to actually overcoming the hurdles before they grow into a big hurdle pile, actually. As for the flaming, you'll probably see the same sort of reaction everywhere else, too. The level of detail that you presented, and the type of discussion you expected, aren't at the level of these boards. Imagine if I submitted a "Cool idea about internal organs" article to the Journal of Applied Medicine, or "How to put brakes on airplanes" to Boeing or some aviation engineering publication. Same thing, they'd laugh at me. Not that these boards are at the level of an actual established publication, but still, above General Chat.

I dunno. I just saw a published article detailing the projected half-life of a tea-spoon in an office environment. 42 days for communal rooms, 77 days for rooms associated with specific research groups. Teaspoon value apparently did not effect the outcome, and they estimated you'd need to purchase 250 spoons annually to keep 70 on hand. Of course, this is in Australia. Notorious spoon thieves.

so spoons are currency, and the goal is to dig to the bottom of the pile of hurdles and solve all problems with MMO games. also, you punch people while trying to do that.
and a teaser look at the first class in development: Canberra Pit Fighter +1 thievery -1 coherence (max party members reduced by one*) maxmimum stereotypical sayings increased by 3 can equip: stubbies
*the party system involves punching random people in the face, so this is mostly irrelevant

You should have used "affect" instead of "effect".
You know, being dicks about grammar with hundreds of other people would be a great MMO idea. I already have this copyrighted, by the way, so look for it on XBL as Conan the Grammarian by Christmas '08.

Endboss=Chuck Norris. He can't be beaten, so DDA will have to cry big girly emo tears when he can't learn his roundkick. Le sigh.

That's the one. Isn't it immensely popular? Yes. But it's not an MMO per se, more an aggregate of single-player and tiny-multiplayer games. What makes it popular is the theme, the customizable decoratable dwelling, and the ability to win KinzCash from these games to buy stuff to do that with.
