I can't really muster the effort to PUG a 5-man raid. And I don't really have anything else to play while I wait for the next Kara run to start, so what do you guys farm for most gold? I personally thought Primal Water farming by the Eel pool next to Shatrath was pretty convenient, but recently it's been over populated with ice-lance mages and other masters of kill-ninjas.

So I moved on to the Blood Elves camp at Shadowmoon Valley, these are pretty decent since I've got Exalted rep I can sell away their signets for decent money and still get Netherweave cloth stacks to sell. Not to mention the odd arcane tome. They melee only and heal at low hp, pretty easy for elemental shaman or casters with interrupt.

Any other ideas if this one's overcrowded? Cause mages usually just dominate with no sweat, and I'm really out of options when they just ice lance everything.

Depends on what's camped.  You mentioned the pool already, so I imagine the fire eles at the 2 Fly-only Forge Camps in Blade's Edge are fairly camped on your server as well.

After that I hit BM and solo-farm the trash spiders.  They drop a good amount of netherweb silk and, being an instance, have a higher green and blue drop rate.  An hour or so and I have 13 netherweb silks, and I didn't have to worry about any kill stealing.  I expect the trash to get buffed or the drop rate nerfed any day now, however, since word's been getting out about this.

I also farm in a circle around Netherstorm as I hunt mining nodes.  Cloth, Marks and Tomes/Armaments as well as ore.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

being that i currently only have one character with a 280% flyer, i am REALLY considering droppin skinning on her, and picking up mining.  One of my guildie friends makes CRAZY money just flying around mining adamantite in the higher level areas.  he gets something like 10 to 15 stacks an hour and either sells them for crazy amounts of money or has a friend prospect them and gets a crazy amount of valueable blue gems.

Alot depends on your tradeskills.  If you are level 70 herbalist with stealth capabliities, repeatedly running Slavepens for Lichen can be profitable.

Skinner? Black morass trash is paradise.

also, while Elemental plateau is usually camped to hell and back, there are a good variety of places to get different motes.

Fire - blades edge (3 spots at least), Shadowmoon valley
Water - shadowmoon valley, Terrokar forrest (skettis, fly only zone, if you dont mind level 70 mobs)
Air - shadowmoon valley
Mana - the Kirin Var villiage in Netherstorm ROCKS for mana motes, especially if there are MORE people farming there, other day, i got about 14 primal mana in 2 hours, and that was WITH 5 assorted alliance / horde there killing them as well, cause the respawn rate is just SO damn high with multiple people in the area.  Mana is also one of the somewhat overlooked primals.

How about you try PeeVeePee and farm other players?

Elementals - mid map - far north on the mountain of Nagrand - level 71 non elites.  Their elemental drops sell well on the Ah.

If you are thinking of the area commonly refered to as "elemental Plateau" north of the Throne of Elements / Garrdar, accessable only to flyers, i usually avoid the place, due to it being camped to hell and back.  It is THE level 70 elemental farming spot, and on my server, usually camped so hard everything permanently waiting to spawn.

Farming also depends on your class... on my warrior, farming mana is a breeze (silence? mana burn? kek), but fire and air tend to be painful. On my lock, I can kill fire elementals by the truckload (4-5 at a time) and still finish with full hp.. but I wouldn't want to farm mana motes for long.

I avoid the elemental plateau like the plague. It's THE farming spot on my server, and always overcamped; if I need fire motes, I head to the Hand of Gul'dan in SMV (convenient, since that's where I do my shadowcloth transmute anyway).

Also, if you have a crafter tradeskill, look up on thott where the BOP patterns drop, and farm those areas. You're killing 2 birds with one stone; though I pretty much got sick of farming altogether after spending 3 weeks at a certain ethereal camp in Blade's edge, farming a certain mob over and over and over until it finally coughed up the +40 spell damage enchant. I still don't have an epic flying mount, and the thought of farming gold for it now makes me sick. :P

Will be interesting to see how the 2.1 primal change will affect prices, too. I suspect primal farming is going to be far less profitable due to a larger supply, and finally put on par with everything else.

Bleh... after rereading the patch notes, it looks like I just misread the note..
Quote
Essences (Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Living) have had their drop rates significantly increased. Also Outland creatures that dropped motes will now have a chance of dropping essences as well.
I read the 2nd sentence as "will now have a chance of dropping PRIMALS", especially since skettis surgers apparently have a [low] chance to drop a primal water instead of just motes (though I never farmed them, and relying on the forums / thott comments for information might've been a bad choice :p)

Sorry to get yer hopes up, though it'd be a good change if they DID implement it. sigh.

not even epic level raid mobs drop complete primals.  I somehow doubt the skettis mobs do.

I farm the warlocks in legion hold in SMV. They have little HP, do little damage, spawn like crazy, and drop the typical loot you'd expect from high level legion-aligned humanoids. Once you get good at avoiding the elite pit lord while fighting the whole time you can rake in the cash. The other thing I do when holy specced is fish in Nagrand, which is good because nobody really does it due to fishing being a pain in the ass to raise up. I also occasionally farm ogres in Nagrand when I'm in the mood because it gives me 2 reps (consortium and the nagrand) and I'm anal about that sort of thing.

Thank god I always quit MMOGs when I come to the farming stage - twice now in WoW.

Reading about it here makes me puke already.

Heh, I don't farm at all, and still manage to come up with ~1k a month for all my assorted fun stuff.  Something to do with instance drops and the odd mining node while travelling between places.

yeah i know, i don't really login to farm, but sometimes I came a bit earlier than the supposed raid times and look for something to do. So I just farm.
I don't really enjoy WoW PVP much. Especially on a shaman. Thanks for the tips I'll try these out later.

I sat down at Skald for about 2 or 3 hours and walked away with 10 more primal fire than what I started with.  When the prices swing high again I'll offload them for 250.  I could have easily made this while questing but i needed some fire anyways.

Oh and I also made almost 30g an hour from grey and a couple green 2 handers that dropped.

For most classes though questing is a lot easier gold.  Epically once you've got the fast flying mount.

Yeah, if you have any level 60 alts you should bring them out just to run the quests.  Make thousands of gold and instead of buying him a flyer you just mail it to your main.

I fly around hitting up mining nodes. Then I have my friend prospect all the ore for gems, and sell the gems on the AH. Lately I have been trying to save up ore, cause they are upping the gem drop rate for prospecting next patch.

The whole thing trickles down through the AH, and even below-60 characters, and especially newbies/low levels can profit by selling the low end minerals and/or reselling stuff for prices that are only possible because the L70's are farming so much and have gold.  Not only have I gotten my little mount when I got to 40, but I have something like 400g extra, on a priest character, which for me is a huge thing.

Also answered the question why some servers remain at low populations, and why some others remain imbalanced in terms of Alliance:Horde ratios:  if there aren't enough buyers of low level junk (because there aren't enough high level people, and thus not enough alts to buy the stuff), the newbies trying the server out don't find it fun, and go to an older one.

Suddenly, "no transfer new servers" aren't all the rage anymore.

Awesome.  I've got a large mining bag full of ore from when I leveled my shaman.

I can't stand farming. So I'm finishing SMV and Netherstorm quests with my shaman and mailing the cash to my druid.  I seem to spend money about 3x as fast as I can make it.  I will never have a 280% mount.

Next up, I'll level my rogue to 70 and after I get him an epic mount (still has a 60%), I'll repeat the SMV/Netherstorm process.

Only place I've been able to stomach any sort of farming is Legion Hold in SMV.  It's a cake walk and the drops are decent enough to keep you sane.  The need to farm to keep myself in cash has made me play less, I hope the questing helps with that.

It's funny.  On my warrior (original main), I rarely had more than 20g at any time. I bet he still has about 20ish, maybe 40 as we speak.  He was mining/smithing (not much for making cash since all your ore gets consumed on the smithing).

On my priest (second 60, eventually 62) I had about 100-200g I think at 60.  He was enchanting/tailoring - money sink, but no need to stay in good gear and repair as much as the warrior.

On my mage (current main, 65), I have about 900 gold AFTER buying the epic riding skill.  I started him on a release server, but he is my only character besides an AH mule, and I've never received a cash infusion from anyone.

Experience and class really matters.

edit: forgot to mention, the mage has two gathering skills (skinning and herbs).  I figured I couldnt afford to mess around without any established characters to wire gold to him.

If you haven't finished all the quests, particularly SMV and NS, do those.  You'll get plenty of crap to sell or auction.

If you have, you could try farming crap that people use for rep.  That stuff sells well too.

I agree.  Finish all questing first.  I have plenty of dough from 4 chars lvl'ing in Outlands.  3 are at 70 and have flying mounts and I'm still raking in cash.  My fourth also has his epic ground mount.  No problems.

I haven't had to farm at all yet.  I will at some point for that epic flyer, but I'm not in any big hurry for that.  Each character I take from 60-70 gets me around 1500gps just from questing.  I end up with more cash to use and another lvl 70 char to play around with.  I have a lvl 40 and 50 coming in behind the others for even more cash.  They are complete harvesters so I'll rake in even more as they come along.

if you are the type who does the multiple 70's thing, and can stand to do the following: do NOT do any quests outside of Hellfire / Zangar Marsh and maybe a bit of Nagrand / Terrokar.  SAVE every quest you can for when you hit 70 and try to instance your way through most of your levels.  The amount of cash you make off quests at 70, when the exp rewards get converted into cash is staggering.

Plus the rep gains will be a lot easier afterwards since you didn't do the quests first.

well, minmaxing rep is usualy WHOLE other pain in the ass.

If you want to minmax rep AND minmax cash gains, then run Ramparts / Furnace till your eyes bleeed (and you hit honored), THEN quest out hellfire peninsula.

Same for Slave pens / Underbog.  run them till honored (or collect plant parts) then do the Cen circle quests in terrokar.

The worst part about hellfire rep is that you kinda need those quests done to gear up the alt since they give you jack-all equipment in the old-world. cry

Don't forget to pickpocket all the humanoid mobs before you kill them on the way up. It is a significant boost in cash IMO. Also gems, potions and more vanishing powder than you will ever want.

Well, if you are willing to spend 2 or 3 days and 50g or so shopping around the AH, you can usually pick your alt up a full suit of level 60 or 61 "of the XX" gear that will give you a fairly signifigant boost over anything short of a full set of good pre BC instance blues.  A full suit of level 61 "of the bandit" or "of the soldier" gear for rogues / warriors / enhance shaman / hunters is usually a fairly signifigant boost in stam and AP / Crit over most of your pre BC blue stuff.

Does your server have an active twink population? You can sell the 19-29 BoE Blues from DM/SFK/RFK for stupid amounts on the AH. Wipeing out the entire dungeon in 1-3 giant pulls is a lot more fun then killing elementals for a few hours. You'll probably make more just farming elementals, but keep your sanity doing the lowbie dungeons  :-D

I second this.  You pick up some nice stuff along with working on your lockpicking.  That helps in instances since most in Outland have at least one locked chest per.
