It's a long post, and unfortunately that picture doesn't help. It makes me want to read the post in the voice of Sam the Eagle.

At the very least, it's an interesting viewpoint on the Ultima series and way forward. At worst, it's Lord British.

I hope he can put something together. I doubt it would live up to my expectations, but I would certainly take a look.

I don't understand.  Is he saying there's going to be another grand hype for 5 years which results in poorly implemented Donkey Shit (tm) whereupon Lord British rides his magic colostomy bag to Mars out of pique, a third midlife crisis, and unicorn tears?

An apt description if I've ever heard one.

So whenever people write about Garriott, they refer to him as the inventor of Ultima Online. And whenever people write about Raph Koster, they refer to him as the inventor of Ultima Online. Does anyone know who actually did what? (Wikipedia lists Garriott as producer and Koster as designer, but that doesn't really tell me much.)

Garriott brought the Ultima universe and a lot of ideas while I think Koster was more responsible for actually making those ideas happen.

It's the flaw in the gaming industry that projects requiring hundreds of people working on them up to completion get distilled down to, "Invented by Lord British,", as though he personally scripted every line and placed every pixel.

It really does sound as though he is pitching a game built on Facebook or some other social media platform that will be thin on features at release. Sounds like a solid plan if rather disappointing in a "selling out to milk millions from the common man" kinda way. Now let's see if the talk actually becomes something.

Also "Plz e-mail EA telling them to gimme Ultima back". Or something. He was kinda fuzzy there. Does he want to go back to EA...?

He wants the rights to Ultima back, presumably. He should've thought about that before selling Origin to EA.

This.  If anyone should have seen this coming, it would be him.  For fuck's sake, the plot of Ultima VII is that EA is evil.

We haven't entirely nailed down what Garriott is capable of, but I'll tell you this: it's chock full of PR bullshit and it does not like the human psyche.

I'd pay 10 bucks for a Kinect game where I interact with Lord British and he brings me his crayon drawings and I tell him what a good boy he is.
