Nostalgia really really helps, I think, but it's hard to tell since I'm wallowing in it. I really like the online play, and can't really explain why. If you have access to an Xbox, go try the multiplayer demo. Otherwise maybe hold out for an actual demo, although I don't know if one is forthcoming or not.

Hmm, Ironwood hates everything, but he likes this one, so color me tempted.
Serious question: I've no real interest in Transformers, since I wasn't exposed to them at an early age. If you have no love (or hate) for Transformers, would this game still be rated as 'great', or does it sorta require an attachment to the series?
It's hard for me to seperate them, but I'll try. There complaints against it are valid. I've fallen through the world and gotten hung up on geometry. There's no chat or voice in multiplayer. The keys cannot be rebound. (Rebinded?) If you're not a TF fan, it will probably feel like an average 3rd person shooter with a gimmick (transforming) thrown in. The neon appearance of the TFers and the darkness of the rest of the textures kinda makes it look more like Tron. I believe the nostalgia and lack of a decent TFers game until now is what pushes it from Average to Awesome for fans.

Yes.
There are better FPS shooters out there. Better Deatmatch Online experiences.
But this is Transformers. This is Transformers done WELL.
Don't bother if that doesn't mean anything. Not being snide; it's only if you've ever actually dreamed of ramming 3 decepticons out of the way while screaming 'MEGATRON MUST BE STOPPED; NO MATTER THE COST' and then laughing as some sniping wee Scout cunt sticks a blade in you, ending you about as effectively as Hot Rod deciding NOW is the time to step in during your fight with Megatron.

Anyone able to tell how many people are playing on 360/PS3? I don't know if the console communities can see how many are playing each type of game like the PC can. Though I don't know if the PC servers/numbers are by region or if it's the entire community. There complaints against it are valid. I've fallen through the world and gotten hung up on geometry. While I agree the complaints are valid (not being able to rebind keys at least on the PC version is my biggest complaint), I must say that I think the lack of chat and voice is a good thing given the average online community. If it was a game that wasn't as fast paced and didn't have such small maps, I wouldn't see lack of communication a positive. I just think it fits this game well to not have that communication (longest respawn time I've had was 3 to 5 seconds. Normally when I die it spectates the person who killed me in 3rd person mode and by the time I see where they are, I'm respawned. getting back in the action takes less then 10 seconds as well. Also, if playing a scientist and you fall through the floor, turn into a jet. That normally saves you. Anyone else is pretty much fucked.

I'd like to be able to chat with people on my friends list. A buddy from another state got the game, and I won't be able to communicate with him at all without an outside program. I'm pointing him to X-Fire right now since that's what I've got.

The PS3 version straight up tells you how many people are online and how many are in each game mode, probably the same as on PC. Evening PST I usually see 4000-7000 players online, and usually about 700 of them in Team Deathmatch.

I can't honestly say it was a bad decision in general to not have communication (it was straight up clown shoes) only that I'm appreciating the time spent on a fast pace FPS not hearing the slur of the day every 5 seconds as a positive feature. Double edged sword situation, especially with the example you provided. That is quite a few more then the PC version. Right now it's at 500 people, the most I've seen was 1.1k. Though it's only 6pm cst, I'm guessing it will average out over the week at about 700-800.

Finished the single player campaigns. Game can be frustrating as hell at points. Missile barrage=move your fucking ass. The Trypticon fight had fewer powerups than Omega's. One cube between two people is rough.
Well worth it though.
Oh, and much nostalgia as I have for The Touch, Stan Bush is just painful to listen to now.

Most fun maneuver for me is as an aerialbot, dogfighting, pchew pchew akakakakak, then getting in close then transforming and WHACKING WITH YOUR ENERGON SWORD then transforming right before you fall to your death. There are more effective ways to kill an enemy, but damn if it doesn't look awesome.

I proclaim that is game does indeed have The TouchSeriously? I haven't heard it yet, where is it? Also kind of surprised that the old theme song isn't in there anywhere, given how much the game references the movie. Does anyone know what those big destroyable floating Autobot/Decepticon symbols do? I assumed they'd be some kind of unlock or something, but I can't find anything online about what they do, and all that I see in the "extras" section is concept art, which is already all unlocked.

I heard they unlock a couple of trophies. http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2010/06/23/transformers-war-for-cybertron-achievements-and-trophies-guide-xbox-360-ps3.htm

I'm a bit bummed that the awards and achievements aren't in the PC, but whatever.
I've grown enormously fond of the Moleculon bomb; I just wish it didn't LOOK so bloody silly.
I also wish to hell I was able to kill anyone with Ram. It may hurt them, but it never seems to kill them.

Heh, I won a match a few days ago ramming into a pack of three that were all winged by a soldier with a scrapmaker. It was pretty epic (although not really the deciding factor in the win of the match, since it was pretty lopsided to begin with).

Going to quote you over here and continue in this thread, instead of spamming the other one. As for that use of shockwave, it is handy but then with my setup I feel a little defenseless once I have someone in my face after pushing people off the node (healer abilities in all slots except for the rocket sentry while running shockwave/sentry as my skills). I will say that I noticed a good scientist is annoying, a great scientist is almost god.
I mostly ran with a full healer build in power struggle, since playing support there was obscenely powerful. In Conquest though, I generally roll with shockwave + turret, and run to whatever the center node is, if it's being captured, transform midair, drop the turret in the air, hit the ground, shockwave, transform and leave. I only really harass there to buy time for others to get there, or to delay the node capture. Otherwise I'll go find any node that's not currently ours, and go sit on it, and either force people to come stop me, or take it. Dying in conquest doesn't really affect me in any way other than getting my shockwave and turret back sooner. The insane mobility gets you back to the fight nearly immediately. A lot of times, I end up with both the highest amount of deaths and yet the highest amount of points on my team doing that. I'm only this suicidal playing that class in that mode though. I'm a lot more conservative with the other classes and other modes. I'm also at the point where I can see a cloaked scout coming and a disguised scientist hasn't fooled me for a while. I'm not saying I'm good, I still die a lot. Especially to guys who come in behind or above me. I also suck major balls with soldiers, both as and against them. I die as soon as I end up in scrapmaker fire, and can't seem to ever kill anyone with it myself. Sitting at around level 12-15 with all the classes now though, so it's not from a lack of trying.

With shockwaving people capturing, I'll stay and fight if it's only 1-2 while I use my heal grenade (solder/leader or 2x of either soldier/leader I won't stick around to fight though). Also, I would look for the strongest player and stick with them playing healer bot when I'm able, and do the shockwaves on people capturing nodes while I'm on my way back to finding that person to continue healing the rare times I find someone worth shadowing.
As for disguised scientists: if you have your repair ray as the equipped weapon, you won't see their health bar while their name is blue, and that is a dead give-a-way.
Cloaked scouts are pretty easy to see when paying attention. I think that's why I enjoy the stealth here and think they did it right as it's easy enough to see if you pay attention but it's good enough where people can still sneak up on others effectively. I must say I'm enjoying the scout a lot after I hit level 8-10 range. I'm running a scatter blaster/Null ray (10x zoom), mark target/cloaking, surprise attack/health matrix/weapon stabilizer mostly, though I switch in dash for marking and leg servos for health matrix as my secondary build. At 25 I'll switch weapon stabilizer out for Rapid Recharge (quicker cooldowns) in that main build
Also, do you have health matrix on your scientist? When I got level 5, my second scientist slot had health matrix as the middle upgrade but the others can't.

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure of my scientist builds right now, and can't really check. I usually bulk up for shockwave or for healing as far as the traits go, whatever makes me better at those.
Been playing Leader a lot also lately, and god they're beasts. I've really taken to liking the martyrdom trait. It almost always gets me a kill after I die. At first I thought it was a worthless junk trait since at first glance, I felt like I shouldn't ever be dying. Except dying resets your killstreaks and your abiltiies. And it's going to happen at some point anyhow. And the mine does no good if it doesn't hit anything before you die, which it often won't if you're in the middle of a group.
At least I'm at the point where I don't feel any one class is more powerful than the others though. They're all disturbingly wrong in their own ways. If only I didn't suck so bad with the soldier.

I thought starscream's first boss fight with rotating beam fence was a bitch too. Really reminded me of a WoW raid or something, that and Starscream vent chat of 'YOU FOOL!' and Skywarp's 'Are we even hurting this thing?' gelled together well.

3 months out. I still fire this up from time to time, to get my Transformers gaming fix, but it's kinda sad. I tried a little PvP, but I'm lukewarm on the format. I love Escalation, but no one I know plays it, so I solo it for a few levels. At this point, I really wish they'd 1. Support the PC version, and 2. Made the DLC single player/co-op stuff. I have no clue how it's doing on the X-Box version, so maybe I'm just the cranky nerdboy ranting against the clouds.
