Now that Netflix is removing their profiles (and forcing us to manually move our movies from each profile to the 'main' movie queue) I decided to start looking around at other services. Is anyone using another online movie rental service that has a profile system similar to Netflix's? Anyone using Blockbuster Online?

I really like being able to have 3 different queues that send me one disc each time I return a disc from the queue. Makes it easy to keep my wife happy with her foreign films, and our 10-disc anime series doesn't stomp on mid-week movie watching.

I use Blockbuster Online, but it never had a profile feature to begin with awesome, for real.  I'm the only one in the family that watches DVDs (outside of occasional requests from Mom that I just add to the top of the queue), but that's a damn nice feature they're taking away for your kind of usage.

Isn't Blockbuster censored?

I don't even mind the queue collapsing nearly as much as I mind the inability to have my own ratings and recommendations.  All of my hard work to tell Netflix what movies I do and don't like is going to be forgotten and it's going to start recommending movies about gay cowboys eating pudding.

Signe's probably would have gotten a better response.

If yer still looking for an alternative, try out Greencine. It's mostly geared towards film nerds, with a lot of focus on indie and foreign films (including a decent anime selection) and a nice community. Shipping turnaround isnt as fast as Netflix since they don't have warehouses all over the country, but they do have a fast return feature that pretty much makes up for it.

Even if you don't use the service, their blog and film primers are always worth checking out.

We loved the selection and recommendations of Greencine, but our turnaround times were usually 8-10 days where it is usually 3 for Netflix.

Their distribution center is here in the Los Angeles area and their selection seems to trump BBO's easily.  That turn-around time is troublesome though.

Was the problem their time-in-transit Numtini or would it just take forever for them to ship your new movie out?

Part was the mail, but there was frequently a day between when I got the email that they had received it and when they shipped something else. And I think some mail may have sat idle before being logged in as the trip to them seemed to take a few days longer than the trip back.

Oh, now that I think about it, this didn't add to the delay, they just shipped the #2, 3, or 4 or whatever, but there were a lot of not available movies. Including a few obscure animes that were not available for months on end.

Netflix has some anime that would be considered porn, but Greencine has *real* porn. (And tons of anime porn apparently).
