So for the third time in as many months, Firefox has wiped the bookmarks and links on my laptop.  Anyone know what causes this bullshit, or if I can recover the 'lost links' somehow?  I've taken to just not putting more than crappy bookmarks on this machine soI know what I had marked.. which elmiinates the point of marks.

I have no idea.

Also, sure this is belated from the last change, but is there a gallery of Merusk avatars, preferably with the subjects' names listed, anywhere?  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I don't use bookmarks anymore.  I use del.icio.us instead.

Same.

Was a mild pain getting everything tagged in the beginning, but having my bookmarks on any computer I want is sure nice.

del.icio.us, but NetNewsWire replace a lot of the blogs I used to link via del.icio.us/naum/blog… …free (and there is Windows version. forget if its titled the same or something different), syncs up from multiple machines, and syncs from iPhone too… …always can riff on a news stream 24/7 ;(

…had over 1000 blogs bookmarked in del.icio.us, but only up to ~800 now in NetNewsWire…

A combination of that and Google Bookmarks.

I use yahoo bookmarks.

Frankly I find tags extremely inefficient and annoying.  I'd rather have organized folders.

I've had Firefox barf on me a couple of times in the past like that.  It keeps a backup copy of your bookmarks for just such an occasion, if you dig around your firefox data folders you should be able to find it.  Rather than rely on that, I just back it up manually every now and then.  I haven't had it happen to me in a long while, though, I figured it was fixed in the latest versions.

A quick Firefox add-ons search reveals:

FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers (it can even backup/restore your entire profile).

I use Foxmarks it keeps my bookmarks synced so that no matter what computer I am on I have the same set of bookmarks. I love it because I constantly add and delete bookmarks and it keeps the 5 or 6 computers I use with the same set with no setup time.

I don't use many bookmarks, and I don't make new ones very often, so....my Firefox bookmark menu is sort of a mess.

But thanks for the addon link. I'll use it because...well, why not?

I have a truly enormous unorganised Firefox bookmarks folder that I've been meaning to tidy up for years - since Firefox began - but never have. It has outlived various PCs and never died. (Until right after this post, I imagine)

Firefox just did the erasing thing to me today. Hilarious as I backed it up yesterday.

Anyway, it was due to being unable to write to a hard disk. Then my disk drive froze up and my computer overheated. Was about 83 degrees in the house. Waited 2 hours, booted back up, copied over the profile folder, all fixed. Seems passwords are stored in there also. Win.

Avant Browser lets you store all your bookmarks remotely, so you can share them between home and work computers.

Yeah, couldn't find the backup bookmarks so whatever I didn't remember is lost.   Might have been the 'can't write to disk' thing Schild had, as Java had just updated and rebooted me when I lost them.  Ah well.

I'll be looking-up some of these mods/ services later, though.  No need for multiple PC bookmarks, as I'm pretty damn restricted at work, but it'd be nice to have an online storage space in the event this happens again. Thanks for the tips.
