Since I built my new PC a couple of months ago, I've been almost exclusively playing games on that, with a little GH/2 thrown in for variety. Of the newer consoles, I only own the Wii. It's recently occured to me that the PS2 seems to still be getting a bit of well worthwhile software, since, you know, it has a userbase of half the world's population.
But I'm pretty ignorant of what's been released, what's good, what's shit and so forth. Games like God of War and Shadow of the Colossus were sleeper releases, at least to me. So I'm wondering what's been released that's worthwhile checking out. Hell, I haven't had a new FIFA or NHL game in a few years (Pro Evo isn't my bag). So, wondering what's out there, what's worthwhile picking up or at least checking out? I guess the timeframe would be this year so far and maybe stuff about to be released.. since GH3 in a month is about the extent of my current immediate knowledge.

Released Name - [Genre] [Publisher/Developer] - Ar Tonelico - [RPG] [NISA/Gust] - Muff Diving, Singing, Chibi Shit, Slowdown from The Awesome Sprites Art of Fighting Anthology - [Fighting] [SNK Playmore/SNK] - Uh. It's a Art of Fighting. You like it or you don't. Chulip - [RPG] [Natsume/Punchline] - Kissing. 50x Better than you'd expect. Still not "Totally Rad" though. Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 - [Fighting] [SNK Playmore/SNK] - See Art of Fighting. God of War II - [Action] [SCEA/SCE Santa Monica] - Uhm. Yea! Growlanser V: Heritage of War - [RPG] [Atlus/Career Soft] - Pretty generic RPG. Fantastic box set though. Decent VO work. Nice art in general. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - [Fighting] [Aksys/ARC] - Absolutely awesome, all bugs from Japan fixed. Lumines Plus - [Puzzle] [Buena Vista/Q?] - Nothing is as good as the original :( Metal Slug Anthology - [Action] [SNK Playmore/Mega & SNK] - The best you're going to find in library form... Obscure 2 - [Survival Horror] [Playlogic/Hydravision] - Coop survival horror. You move like a fucking tank. Good fun in 2 player though. EUROPE ONLY ATM. Odin Sphere - [Action RPG] [Atlus/Vanillaware] - Best looking PS2 game probably, all 2D, controls like a dream. Feels like a dream. GOTY Material. Persona 3 - [RPG] [Atlus/Atlus] - GOTY RPG material. We have threads on this. The Red Star - [Action SHMUP Hybrid] [XS Games/Acclaim Austin (not kidding)] - Underrated hybrid experience. Tough at times. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - [Square Enix/Tri-ace] - As good as the original. Nowhere near as hard. Absolutely gorgeous. Wild Arms V - [RPG] [XSeed/Media.Vision] - No clue, not open. people say it's the best since the first. Good music.
Upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am - [WTF] [Midway/Create] - Golf and shit. Probably funny as hell. Daisenryaku 7 Exceed - [Strategy] [Valcon/Systemsoft] - Probably the most hardcore of hardcore military tactics titles. PC Gamers weep. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns - [Wrestling] [Agetec/Spike] - Probably the best wrestling series you've never heard of. I'm stoked. Guitar Hero 3 - [Rhythm] [Activision/Neversoft] - No Downloadable Content = No Sale! Mofos! Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law - [Lawyer Sim] [Capcom/High Voltage] - Expect awesome. Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon SE - [Farming Sim] [Natsume/Natsume] - Fun, but no Rune Factory King of Fighters XI - [Fighting] [SNK Playmore/SNK] - Sweet Sweet SNK action. 2 Weeks!!! Neo Geo Battle Coliseum - [Fighting[/b] [SNK Playmore/SNK] - A little slower than KOF. A mashup. Decent though. Nowhere near as good as XI[/b] Manhunt 2 - [Violence] [R*/R*] - I hear you can fucking rape kids and shit! MLB Power Pros - [Sports] [2K Sports/Konami] - The closest thing we'll ever get to RBI Baseball. COMES OUT TODAY!!! :) Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords - [D3/Infinite] - You know what this is. Buy it again. I mean why the hell not.
That should cover it for now. This is only 2007 as far as I know.

You forgot Soul Nomad, Tactical RPG, NISA. There's also Bully, which is a GTA clone with a schoolyard skin on top.
Everything else I know of, you've covered.

Atelier Iris 3
Eh, am I supposed to talk about PS2 games? Well, I went back to Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (2004 release, sorry for leaving 2007) with a fierce passion since Sony has fixed the issues with the PS2 emulation that both hung and made-look-bad that game. Also some AI3, mentioned above, since the "sixaxis takes a nap and requires PS3 powercycle" problem has also disappeared with recent PS3 updates.
EDIT: Rogue Galaxy

Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone

VP2 came out in 2006 (about a month before FF12 actually). That said, I'd throw Tomb Raider: Anniversary on the list too. I didn't like it as much as Legend, mainly because the combat didn't feel as satisfying, but it was still quite good.

VP2 was Europe this year. My bad. I try to stay on top of everything. Doesn't always work out. Still VP2, most people missed it in 06, heh.

I missed it too actually. Apparently, so did most people since it won IGN's Best PS2 Game No One Played.

Oh, I didn't miss it. I played a good deal of it and am going to restart on the PS3. But yea, it was missed, to say the least.

Had I changed the order of those two sentences, it might have actually said what I wanted to. (As in, "I missed it, just like everyone else, as evidenced by said award.")
I blame medication.

Thanks guys, awesome lists. Now I have something to work off to check these games out before they totally disappear. And yeah, late 2006 would be fine as well, especially due to the PAL-delay. Also, Fire Pro! Yay! No extra content for GH3 on PS2? Feck. But I guess, where would you put it? Do I perhaps get the Wii version? On the other hand, I alrteady have 2 Geetars for the PS2... Oh yeah, did Tomb Raider games suddenly become not shit again or something?

Oh yeah, did Tomb Raider games suddenly become not shit again or something? PC version of GH3 maybe? On Tomb Raider, Legend and Anniversary are both quite good (at least on the PC, but I'd assume it would it be better on the PS2). Legend > Anniversary, but Anniversary has that nostalgia factor if you liked the first TR.
