Just checking my e-mails before bed, so I haven't looked into this at all - I'll just post the good news as Acclaim sent it to me:

Dear Players,

Acclaim Games is pleased to announce the start of Closed Beta testing for
DANCE! Online, a massively multiplayer online dancing game (MMODG) that is
free to download and play. With the start of Closed Beta, players will now
be able to experience this fun and addictive online dancing game for the
very first time.

Using either a keyboard or supported dance pad, you can dance in an
interactive music video right on your PC. By keeping in sync with the beat,
you can perfect your dancing skills and compete in online dance battles
with friends. DANCE! Online will also feature the hit music in a variety of
styles and genres from the world’s hottest music artists.

Closed Beta testers will be given an exclusive & confidential first look at
the game, and are asked to report bugs and issues. Some features will not
be available at the beginning of Closed Beta and will be patched in later.
- Clothing and fashion items will be limited at first.
- Certain Coin items will not be included.
- There will be no initial dance pad support.
- The included songs are merely placeholders for testing purposes.

To participate in Closed Beta, you must first register at
http://dance.acclaim.com. In most cases, you should be able to start
playing the game instantly. We also want more girls to play this game and
compete with the guys, so if you have a sister or know someone who might be
interested in music, dance, or video games, you should invite them to play
for free. Now get ready to DANCE!!!

- There will be no initial dance pad support.

You'd think that would be pretty key to this product.  Like, the first thing coded.

Personally, I'll wait for Whamadoodles Online.

Witty banter not included.

If they do this right (net code, micropayment amount per song, etc) - this could be money hats all round.

Yes; called Audition:

http://www.auditionsea.com/

"Electronic Times Internet, an IT news website, reported that Audition reached 50 million registered users in China, with 400,000 concurrent players. Baidu, the Chinese search engine, revealed that Audition ranks first in all its searches, and is ahead of games like Crazy Racing and World of Warcraft." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audition_Online)

there was an attempt to introduce western version at some point last year (including open beta) but it sort of went belly up when server hacking got out of hand and such. Looks like they're about to try again, though:

We recommend viewing the Dance site

with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. You can

use other browsers but you may not receive

the full experience.
Hmm interesting.

Whenever an opponent discards a card, Megrim deals 2 damage to that player.

Oh darn, this crap rocks.
I had to delete the client a while ago to get some disk space back, but it's really entertaining. Especially the battle mode(s) where you have teams performing together vs either NPC character or one another, these can wind up with the advantage shifting from one side to the other all the time throughout the song, without way to tell who will win until the very end.

No seriously, I am impressed. It's addictive as hell, it has lots of stuff. It has daily open competitions, tons of different modes and lots of... huh... tunes.
If you are into this bust a move guitar hero games, this thing is solid fun. And addictive.. oh did I said that already?

EDIT: We are talking about Audition, not the Acclaim game which the topic should be about.
