I've had the stupid Ducktales theme stuck in my head for days.

DAYS

Yah, me too.  It's pretty pleasant compared to somethings that have gotten stuck there.  Makes me feel like a hero.

I literally just opened this thread, started reading your post...and in my head what I read was "Every time just grab on to some Duck Tales!  A woo ooh!"

Because it's that kind of thread: the D&D Mystara arcade games are being released as a collection across multiple platforms in Apirl.

Honestly, the D&D re-release has me more excited than the DuckTales remake.

I mean, I've heard DuckTales is a great game and all, but I'd rather have the original than a "prettied up" remake.  This 2.5d semi-polygonal platforming stuff is not as visually interesting to me as a straight up 2d platformer, even a low res one.

And back to the top for your release day  awesome, for real

I played it at E3 and thought it was pretty dull. After playing for about a minute I wanted to walk away but a developer was watching me out of the corner of his eye so I kept playing because I didn't want him to feel bad. This was before the general public was let in, so I was the only person in the booth at the time.

Playing the game felt like just going through the motions. I kind of sucked at it so it was "hard" in a way but not in a challenging interesting way.

I find a lot of WayForward's game are like that. BloodRayne was similar - it had cool animations and atmosphere, it was hard, but it wasn't fun to play and surmounting the challenge wasn't enjoyable.

*shrug*  I'm enjoying it.  Seems to be scoring decently enough on Metacritic.  I can't remember the last time I went to GameSpot for anything....might have been the time Eidos paid them off to review Kane and Lynch.

The first paragraph of that Gamespot review is classic awful video game review writing:

Quote
If we push aside our love of classic cartoon themes for just one second, we can see just how inane the lyrics to the DuckTales' theme are. There's little defense for lines such as "not pony tales or cotton tales but DuckTales," and there doesn't need to be. It's a catchy, silly jingle that gets us excited for some duck-related hijinks. And though the DuckTales song is able to remain enjoyable despite being nonsensical, the updated platformer proves that some things are better left in the past. DuckTales Remastered is a boring adventure that highlights the ravages of old age.

Not only is it terrible in isolation but the rest of the review focuses on negative changes in the remake, so the final line doesn't even make sense.

What I've heard is that it's well, a modern port of the NES game with story cutscenes interjected to explain the silly Japanese shit like why you're on the moon.

The original NES game was pretty good, and my friends say this is outside of it not being as responsive as the original. Nostalgia glasses really- reviewer doesn't like NES game after 20 years of refinement on the genre. Only Mario can get away with releasing direct ports of old shit as far as reviews go.

Yeah, as I said before the original was simplistic and not anywhere near deserving the praise I was seeing for it.  I didn't get the love.

Good to see that being forced to actually play it instead of remember it as one of the 8 games someone had at 5-year-old means I wasn't totally crazy.

Seeing nostalgia for the game shatter on the harsh rocks of reality, ok. I get that. But complaining "wah, the Ducktails theme is silly and stupid when I'm 30!"  Wut?  swamp poop

See, I'm not sure anyone who played the game as a kid thinks the gameplay will be anything BUT dated.  Nostalgia doesn't always mean naivety, I still go to the mall and eat sabarro pizza even though I know it's shit because it reminds me of days spent in the mall and playing in the arcade.

It's probably the last time you're gonna hear from Uncle Scrooge anyway. The VA is 93.
