Lineage Closes Shop in North America

NA servers closing 6/29May 11, 2011 -
After much deliberation, NCsoft has made the difficult decision to shut down Lineage servers in its Western markets. Unfortunately, after more than 10 years, the original Lineage franchise is no longer financially viable in the West. On June 29, 2011, at the normal maintenance time, all the original Lineage NA servers maintained by NCsoft will shut down permanently.

Reading is fundamental.  This only affects Lineage.  15 peoples wept.

Not really surprising, it never seemed to take off in NA. I'm more shocked that they were still running Lineage 1 server(s)

Didn't even know there's NA version of Lineage... always was under impression that started with Lineage 2 for some reason.

IIRC, Lineage was the first sub game to charge $15 a month to play in NA.

According to Slashdot, Lineage had over 1 million subscribers in 2008.

So everyone bailed in 2.5 years?

Does that count only NA Lineage numbers or Korean numbers as well?  I'd guess it counts Korean, and if it counts Korean it's actually lower than I thought.  I would have expected it to still be more than that.  Course, maybe everyone's playing Aion now or something?  It was a huge success over there, right?

Lineage should have been converted into a f2p game.

Last I checked, Lineage still does great business in S. Korea, so I guess most of those subs are located outside of NA.
