Requiem: Bloodymare - http://www.playrequiem.com/Index.aspx
Quote
MARINA DEL REY, Calif. - Jan. 3, 2007 - Gravity Interactive, developer and publisher of a wide variety of online games including both casual and hardcore MMOs, is bringing the bloody horror of Requiem: Bloodymare to the United States in early 2008. The title introduces a world where the misuse of science and magic has warped the natural world into a twisted vision of death.

Has anyone else heard of this game?  The animations and graphics seem to be on par with what to expect from a post-WOW DIKU world.  There is no other info that I could find.  Apparently if you have an account on Fileplanet you could get into the closed beta which starts around now.

Yes.  It seems like yet another L2 clone.  Closed beta starts today, in fact.  Log into MMOSITE or MMORPG.com on Friday if you're interested.  I think they MIGHT be giving away some beta spots.  Gravity Interactive also publishes Ragnarok Online.

Geez... I hate all those sentences I just wrote!  They're like mini-paragraphs with no relation to each other.   ACK!

Fuck that name is lame.

I don't know about that

Bloodymare --> Bloodymarie --> Bloodymary.

Any game about the horror stemming from drinking too many bloody marys can only be good for humanity...

I would guess that nobody wants to be scared and grossed out all the time, and that would make a horrible MMO setting. But then, nobody's tried it yet. It'll be interesting to see how this goes.

... but the joke is already set-up for when it flops.

EDIT: ... and if you think that name is lame, just wait until you read what the player race is called.

Woo an L2 clone with a horror theme.

Since it's made by Gravity I think I'll pass, considering I played one of their first titles and discovered the US/International server was an unfirewalled Win2k box with none of the services turned off, with plain-text password storage.

Meh.  Played for 30 minutes.

Decently purty world.  Girlygirl avatars.  Grind.  Kill stuff.  Grind.

Uninstalled.

I do wonder what the DNA and Beast thingy system are like.  I'll have to either give it a go or find someone who will.  I also don't know what they have in store for PvP.  This is a free game but they'll have a subscription-like choice.  At the same time they claim that no one who chooses to play and NOT pay will be cheated or gimped in anyway.  That doesn't ring true to me... who would pay?  Of course, Hellgate was able to manage to get people to pay for a box and then totally discourage them from subscribing.  Maybe it's a trend?

Anyway, there's no NDA associated with the game because it's a released game elsewhere.  It doesn't feel like horror, it feels like the same old fantasy stuff in most other MMOs untill it gets dark, then it gets rather crreepy in some places, but not creepy enough so far.  There is loads of blood and flying body parts, though, like in Hellgate, which makes combat more satisfying than usual, which still isn't very satisfying.  I can see it becoming popular in the same way L1 and L2, and some other like 2Moons, became popular.  Which is not at all in the US.  Especially since, as far as I can figure out, there isn't any sort of traditional crafting.  They have something with "Xeons" which I never figured out.

The females are mostly naked just like in L2 but at least they don't have huge, painfully swollen bazongas.  They also have humongous butts, though.

That combat was some of the most uninspired that I have ever seen.

The only reason to fight in the game is to see body parts fly and blood splatter.  The mechanics are pretty much like all the rest in games like this.

Well, my female Dark ElfTemperion(?) has a remarkably shiny ass.  Runs like she has a stick up said ass, though.  Kinda cool the first few times a mob explodes in a burst of gore, but it wears off rapidly.  I do like that my character occasionally gets splattered with said gore, though.

Other than that, it's just a generic KMMO.

I downloaded this last night, but I didn't get a chance to install it.  I'll give it a shot tonight I think.  Few folks from another forum tried it out and a few said it sucked and a few said it was fun.  We'll see.

Oh and I got my key from fileplanet.

I'm dying to see how much of a slideshow the 96-vs-96 battlefield will be.  Unfortunately, I'm sure it'll have to be via YouTube.  I don't think I could possibly survive playing this sort of game long enough to get there myself.  It's like L2 in that respect.  I wanted to play the siege game but couldn't last anywhere near long enough to actually get there.

I'm always surprised when a brand new theme is tried without any real research. I mean, unless we're at the point that anyone can bang out some freebie on Multiverse, they still need to make money back. And you'd think with the money creep over the years, they'd want to do some research before committing resources to building a functioning game.

Sure if you look at it just right, Bloodymare can be seen as Bloodrayne and therefore get some ignorant folks to at least check it out. But an entire game set within a horror world is not the sort of place to inspire people to return. There's plenty of nice environments to have your grind in.

For whatever it's worth, I'd love to play a horror type MMO, and I'm vaguely hopeful for Funcom's The Secret World, and CCP's WOD MMO.  Ohhhhh, I see.

However, I realize that A) I'm probably not the norm by any stretch, and B) Execution > Setting.  Also, as previously noted, this isn't horror so much as generic fantasy with arterial spray.  And tits.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS
