I'm looking to start up a webpage for some school friends and myself, but I don't know who has the best bundles for domain & hosting. I'm not looking for anything fancy or huge features. Just a small site, but I do need PHP and MySQL. I also appreciate a useful and well organized CP that makes managing the site a bit easier. No real price range, but reasonable is always a good guide to pricing.

Yahoo Small Business is good. Dotster is probably alright too. Seems a bit cheaper than Yahoo w/ more bandwidth.

Remember to say that you can't use GoDaddy.
Just don't get dreamhost.
Also, Yahoo Domains are registered through Melbourneit, so don't register your name there. They suck balls.

I use netfirms, not sure how good they are but all the tools I need seem to be there and they haven't managed to ever piss me off. All my stuff is low traffic so I am not sure how they stack up performance wise. I think they have a $60 a year package that comes with 1 mySQL database but to get all the bells and whistles you need to spend more like $100 a year.
One of the packages includes a canned phpbb forum and I have set up YaBB with no problems as well.
may help if you told us what you were planning on hosting.

I've gone through a few, but I've been happiest with site5.com. But I don't think they do domains for you.

It doesn't really sound like this is going to be a long term thing, I bet any person here could give you hosting for free...

Funny you should mention it I have a netfirms site I opened up when a bunch of RL ppl I know were begging me to resub to wow and form a guild. Long story short some quit, some decided they wanted to start raiding alot and the guild went bust. Anywho I have about 6 months left on Netfirms Plus Hosting if you want it. It doesn't have mySQL but it can be upgraded (not sure if they prorate that for the remaining term). edit: oh yea forums already set upas well (you would just need to reset them).

Obviously, dreamhost is an inferior solution to your own server… …but tell me where else can you get like 500 Gig storage for like $7 per month? If your primary use is serving up podcast/video, sounds like an economical solution… …all shared hosts are subject to concerns about availability and reliability… I have some sites on Dreamhost and outside of occasional snafus, it's been OK (*knocks on wood*)… …and definitely a better bargain than other market providers…

Actually, GoDaddy is by far the best choice. He just can't use it.
And I don't say that because I work there. But because I pee more pennies than it costs.

I use Bluehost for my site, and it was great until the site started getting fairly popular. :P

I run a load of stuff on dreamhost and we've never had a problem. YMMV.

I can use GoDaddy. The unspeakable assfuckery that happened awhile back was cleared. Though I'm finding they're not the cheapest around, just the one with the biggest name.
Edit: Thanks to everyone who is giving me info. And thanks for the link trippy, turned out to have a ton of info.

I've used 1&1 for a few years, and haven't had any real problems (some brief outages, nothing serious). They've got some deal going on now where you can get the first three months free with one of their packages, if you're just looking for a temporary thing. A few bucks pricier than GoDaddy, though, I believe.

I use them as my registrar, but their interface is liable to give me an aneurysm if I had to use it more then 3-4 times a year. That said, I'm apparently broken since I use DreamHost and such.
