Just created on Emerald, east coast server. Given that the European server is out of the picture, the east coast one is the most viable ping-wise.

Falconeerr is the name of the character and Vanu Sovereignty is the side, as there`s a Vanu shortage and a +6% XP bonus.

Once my Station Access pack gets here, I'll get in on this.

Made Kasyl on Emerald for Vanu.

I play on Werner, but I'll make a vanu on Emerald. Will update with name once I have one.

I have a BR 8 that's configured for Uni-Max (Vladimeerr), and just created BCNewb for other roles if we need them.

I originally rolled on the West Coast server as Vanu got an 11% BEP bonus.  I'll reroll to the east coast server tonight.

They're the underdog.  Live a little.

Nebu, the bonus changes as factions gain numbers. So you'll get exp bonus (which is dumb, the game isn't about exp despite what 90% of the players think), but you'll be getting steamrolled alot.

I'll have to reactivate to find my guys, but I'm pretty sure I have a TR and Vanu on Emerald, iirc. The TR is my thumper grunt and the Vanu was a stealth support guy, but I can't remember if I was transitioning either of them. I also have a few alts for different roles, since I take forever to level in PS because I don't play for exp. My 'mains' are like BR12 and BR8 or so. More character info tonight. edit: I think my Vanu is Komoto and my TR is Komoto-K :) Oldschool!

I hope the heavy armor can get in a marauder pilot spot. Not the best vehicle in the game, but I love driving those. I'll take those certs when I get some points. Of course, that's my TR guy whom I love. Just something about acid grenades...not to mention pissing people off with EMP grenades.

Since you guys seem to be grabbing Vanu (I agree Surly, I hate the Vanu vehicles and zap guns, but hey, they have cool jumping MAXs) I guess it's stealth support or maybe my uniMAX alt.

Is the dumb cave expansion included these days? I'd say a priority is to get anyone who has that capability but doesn't have those mech thingies unlocked to get into the caves for a couple nights and unlock them. Totally selfish, of course, but it would be fun to have zomgmechs on our side, no?

The Vanu just piss me off to no end. 90% of their weapons, vehicles and tactics are about spamming splash damage.

Anyone have a Vent server?  TS makes me have flashbacks to my childhood and phones made out of tin cans and string.  

I got a vent server (setup for eve but anyone can use it) however I think it only holds 8 ppl.

With this group, 8 people is probably fine... after a week there may not be that many left. 

Not sure I can do TS. I for sure have no way of setting up a mic (too long a cord run to the sofa).

Has something changed? I have/had TR and Vanu on Emerald, you can be two factions but there is a timer if you switch. Been a long time since I've played, though...

I'm pretty sure you can have all three factions on one server now, timer still exists though. Alternatively Lantyssa - sign up for a reserves account. You can play on the same install I believe... may be a shortcut you need to add command line parameters to. I'll see what I can find if anyone needs that info, not sure offhand.

So, Evangolis, Emerald, Vanu, Reserves.  Spent about three hours being clueless and cursing the red/green UI colors.  Killed the time fast.  Lotta bind rushing and spawn camping.  Mostly got rolled by Terrans, but slowly.

IIRC it was something like 20 mins if you were just in a live combat zone.  If you only just logged-in and - for example - swapped certs,  or were checking out hot-zones to decide which faction you want to play you can insta-flip.

Getting rolled by the Terrans is a daily occurence. Ze goggles apparently do something.

I was playing TR on my last PS jaunt. I love da thumper. I use the grenade launcher in pretty much any game that has one, though...

As I suspected, Komoto is my Vanu on Emerald. BR10 Inf, ATV, AMS, hacking (not adv.), combat eng.

I also have a BR5 vehicle guy with Armored Assault 1+2 and Combat Engineering as well as a BR6 flier I forgot with Air Cav Assault + Scout and engineering (not combat). I think the AirCav guy was my previous UniMAX duder.

All have full respecs available if I feel like changing anything.

I've gotta chuckle at some of my stupid alt names. My TR alt: DreadLordRoxXorZizNatCh (My TR main is Komoto-K if we ever decide to play the fun faction :P)

Yes, though the game is actually quite complicated (for a FPS) -- so complicated and poorly documented, in fact, that most players don't bother to learn all the "rules" which I'm sure pisses off many a CR5.

Eh, at least three quarters of the CR5s are clueless assclowns anyway, so it's mostly ok.

Yup that's true but I always feel for the CR5s that hopelessly try to get their side to defend or attack the "proper" base.

Well, it's like herding cats. A good CR5 can get a few mixed spec ops squads to do the heavy lifting while the rest of the zerg do their thing. (And that's pretty much what it boils down to, who can out pop whom) That said, you'd be amazed what a single squad of good players on a vent server can achieve against three or four times their number of unorganized zerglings.

My Markov NC outfit used to be a main tank assault force, and on a good night we'd sport 8-10 vanguards. You have NO idea how effective a tank column of that size, all targetting the same targets while they zoom past (first tank hits once, second tank hits once, third tank hits once, etc etc).

Not to mention tactically organized gen takedown/cc capture and hold squads all working together. It's damned amazing, and really exilerating!

Vanu are my favorite faction, hands-down.  The hover vehicles are great, their MAXes are good, and their assault rifle is the best of all of the factions, IMO.  Their anti-vehicular weapon is the weakest of the factions and their heavy weapon is disappointing, but you can dip into common pool and alien tech weapons for replacements.

The problem with Planetside is that it's primarily full of retards running around like... well, retards.  Getting ten competent players to actually work together could have a big impact on a battle, but there aren't any such players to be found.

Just for some of the new people....you can go into the virtual training areas, use any weapon or vehicle, and get XP to use towards certifications (re: Skills).

Using the training missions answered most of my dumb questions, so I recommend that route for truly clueless newbs such as myself.  I haven't figured out the communications yet, hopefully I'll just listen along on vent.

Made BR5, now have basic hacking and stealth, plus a medium assualt layout that is just enough to make armor notice me.  Spent the last couple hours scratching the paint on a Vangaurd/BRF team.  Launch two rockets, respawn.  Kind of fun, nonetheless.  I'll play with stealth next time, see what that is like.

Part of me is tempted to pay, just so I could use the cool toys, and part of me remembers that I have this thing called rent.

Magrider columns are sick. I used to lead the armor division of our outfit. 20 guys in 10 magriders with 2-3 skyguards for those pesky reavers = snipe ownage.

A fun thing to do, but less effective, is field a ton of lightnings. The lightning requires some practice and a lot of repairing, but when you get good with it you can really chew up infantry, especially infantry zerging out of an AMS.  I liked using camera angle to log shots over hills into fortified areas (tops of the wals and courtyards).

The Aurora is an infantry death machine. If anyone takes transport its a lot of fun. Has no air defense though.

They key to stealth is moving slowly (this means crouch) most of the time, combined with knowing when to sprint past distracted enemies. Keep in mind that motion sensors will make you appear on mini-map (as well as skeeter radar), and if they see you on minimap but not in front of them, they wil probably either randomly spray gunfire, or turn on their darklight which will make you glow brightly in the middle of their screen.

At BR6 (cap for reserve program), you'll only have one implant, which doesn't let you get the full suite of "anti-detection" capability that's available, so it can be hard. That being said, good stealthers are the very devil.

I've forgotten a lot of my tricks, but I messed around with my stealth engineer for a while last night. Lots of engineers were around, so I didn't get a lot of kills, I'm usually pretty good with my placements. A bit rusty on using the ACE, had a guy who I shot down from an air tower (he was in a skeeter) come gunning for me, made it into the tower and I almost got him with my mines, but I blew (bad pun) finishing him with the boomer before he got me (popped me out of the AAA gun by hacking the tower).

Joined the zerg for a bit as my stealth combat loadout, but I'm reeeal rusty at that. I've got the pistol which is actually pretty effective when stealthed in a zerg crowd, but switching to the ACE for booming is laborious. I wish there was a quicker way to switch out inventory. My knife attacks generally got me teamkilled by someone targetting the guy I was assassinating...

And it took me 15 Minutes to create a station account because of they won't accept any of the variations of password and account name I came up with.

Maybe the timer is messed? Mine patched in 1 hour, 30 minutes and it seemed to count it correctly.

What kind of connection are you using? After I found a CRC error on my 2nd original install disc, I just downloaded the patcher. Took about an hour and fifteen minutes, I just watched Surface and read a little and it was done. I can pull about 6Mbps on my cable modem, though (on a good day with the wind at my back).

Cable modem, 300up/ 600down.  The patcher isn't lying because even after I had to wipe the computer and re-ghost last night (don't ask) it was still telling me 8:15:22 this morning.  The wife's at home with the kids and I asked her to keep an eye on it.. sure enough it's now at 4h remaining.

I'd suspect network issues on my end, but everything else I've downloded has been its usual quickness.  I'm wondering if it might have something to do with using the Reserves patcher.  I didn't re-up my sub quite yet so I'm marked as a mooching loony rather than a paying customer.

Is there a port I need to forward or something? Mine started showing 14 hours and now, after leaving it up overnight and all morning, it's at 76 hours.

I usually download at much higher speeds, but that is much better than the 300 kbit/s I was getting before :-D

I think it's on their side, my bandwidth stands at about 3mb/sec down, and I wasn't getting anywhere near that.

PArts of the core internet got mail bombed yesterday, might be part of the issue.

I think I still have an Vanu character on Emerald, BR 10 or something.  I know he was certed for a BFR when I last left.  Name was Aradian or Naidara I believe.  Guess I'll download the client and start patching tonight

What times are the peak here?  I'm working at -5gmt (est) but I figure most of you are MTN/ PST (-7/-8 gmt)  If you're all getting on at 8pm local then no wonder I  haven't seen hide nor hair of anyone.

 I popped in for about 10 mins while doing the taxes last night and Nebu/ Tazel were the only ones on my friends list.

I'm eastern time. I can usually get online a couple evenings a week, but early for the left coasters, like 5:30pm-8:30pm (eastern). Next week it will be tuesday night. Some nights if I'm not too tired I can get on around 10:30 or 11pm for an hour or so. Weekends are up in the air, maybe next saturday for a while (I mentioned elsewhere I'm skiing tomorrow). Sundays are usually shot, unless my buddy gets his hours changed now that football is over.

As I said in another post about playtimes, there are valid reasons why I like to solo in mmo. I'm just not reliable for playtimes because I don't have a lot of free time available, and rl always comes first.

I was going to jump on last night around 10:30, but I was beat and just went to bed. I've played a total of 55 minutes thus far.

Just about to hit the BR 6 cap with Tragny. Did a little ANTing today thanks to Blixey's advice from last night. Fun at times, but as was posted by someone else earlier, I'm not entirely sold on the game. Worth the price of admission so far, though.

You're gonna have to delete the install and re-install it. I was having the same problem and the only thing that fixed it was a clean install. The tech support forums were utterly useless in that regard.

Ah, I fixed it... Looked at the patch log and deleted the file it kept dying at. Didn't like the word twat so the name is Fatuous13.

Just so happens I started up a free trial a few months back on Emerald Vanu named Zet.  I'll definitely join the invasion. 

I signed up, but OMG... they put up an install, I download it and then it immediately needs patched for an estimated 18 hours?!?

I'll put my name up when the patching finishes.  If I still have enough of my health in the year 2525 or however long away it is before it finishes.  That said, being Scottish I imagine I'll be soloing because of (a) playing hours and (b) basic linguistic non-comprehension.

Just abort and reconnect a few times, it should go faster and you should not loose your progress.

I logged in and hit the training booth last night, appears I never played on Emerald (All my chars were on Markov - Other then one Terran). So I think I'm like BR 4 or 5 now.

I spec'd for Rexo, harrasser and the thumper. Couple people with those in a tower assault would be nasty.

Respec'd at the end of the night for the liberator and dropped the harrasser and rexo.  Character is named Katiri.

I may not be able understand you (I cannot understand people most of the time anyways), but I love listening to different accents.

I'll be back in this weekend at some point. Been out the last couple days while I sort out the new pc build.

I'd say it's been pretty successful. Maybe as much so as our forray on Emerald Dream in WoW. I highly doubt it'll come very close to what the Eve group here has, though.

This thread probably needs to be re-done, since we have swapped to the NC. If I had admin privileges in this forum I would do it myself.
