Title: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on December 06, 2012, 11:30:22 AM Figured I'd start the thread now as we're just under 2 weeks away. They did gift coupons and coal last year, but I don't know how successful that turned out. What's on your remaining wish list?
I'm looking for a Farcry 3 10% discount since it's new. Some sort of discount on AC3, although if it's not 25% or more I won't really care. Also on the list of things for the right price Lego Lord of the Rings Dishonored Dark Souls AC2 Delux Edition Towns Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: HaemishM on December 06, 2012, 12:18:41 PM Not really looking for much this year.
Dishonoured Football Manager 2013 Magic the Gathering 2013 Total War Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai Expansion X-Com DLC? Just not a lot I want to get especially with stuff I still haven't played from last year's sale, two Humble Bundles, etc. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: luckton on December 06, 2012, 01:26:35 PM I dunno...some random stuff pops to mind:
Dead Space 1 & 2 (you know, to maybe have legit copies ) ANNO 2070 (Unsurprisingly, this is still being sold at full price) XCOM Dishonored Quantum Conundrum Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on December 06, 2012, 02:53:45 PM They remove the bullshit DRM off Anno yet?
And I looked, no they haven't. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Lucas on December 06, 2012, 03:10:13 PM Dishonored
Xcom DLC Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Plus more stuff on GOG :drill: Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kail on December 06, 2012, 04:19:22 PM Figured I'd start the thread now as we're just under 2 weeks away. They did gift coupons and coal last year, but I don't know how successful that turned out. The coupons last year were the stupidest promotion ever. "Hey, grats on completing that achievement, here's a ticket for 50% off Capsized throughout the month of January!" "Uhm, but Capsized is 75% off NOW. Under what circumstances would I ever have a use for this coupon?" I ended up blowing most of my Christmas money on crap I didn't really want for their black friday sale, so it's going to be a quiet holiday for me unless there are some steep discounts on the stuff I have left. My wishlist is mostly cheap indie titles in case family wants to buy me something, but the AAA stuff I'm keeping an eye on is: Dishonored Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Borderlands 2 X: COM Enemy Unknown Guild Wars 2, if it ever shows up on Steam On the maybe list: Lucius Far Cry 3 Civ V Gods and Kings Carrier Command Testament of Sherlock Holmes Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: luckton on December 06, 2012, 04:52:40 PM They remove the bullshit DRM off Anno yet? And I looked, no they haven't. It's there, sure, but they did relax the whole "THOU SHALL ONLY INSTALL THEE ON ONE SINGULAR COMPUTER DEVICE" activation thing. Also, the Legacy of Kain series just got uploaded to Steam. That just became #1 for me :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Segoris on December 06, 2012, 05:25:40 PM The big ones for me would be Skyrim and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. I think I'll probably go more with Project Greenlight titles besides these two, otherwise, if the prices are right, these are the ones I'm thinking about:
Dungeons Fable 3 Xcom Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Sky on December 06, 2012, 05:55:54 PM Hmm. Not really in the market for games right now. But maybe a couple of these.
Dishonored - probably not cheap enough Anno 2072 maybe FC3 won't be cheap enough Risen 2 HoMaM 6 Age of Wonders 2 Fallen Enchantress Drakensang 2/River of Time Fable 3 Dark Souls Note there's a bunch of stuff on sale for Big Picture right now. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Nightblade on December 06, 2012, 06:54:52 PM I would just like dark souls to go on sale so that I can gift it to people who will give up on the game before leaving the Undead Asylum.

Dishonored Far Cry 3 Ticket to Ride dlc's Planetside 2 deals Other than that, theres really nothing I'm interested in since I already have too many games that I've never even installed. :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Rasix on December 07, 2012, 09:38:12 AM AC2 would be kind of interesting. I haven't played AC1 in long enough, but enjoyed part of it until I had played that part roughly 8 times in succession. I keep hearing 2 was pretty much the peak of the series.
Other than that? Dunno, I doubt I'll buy much. I rarely play anything I buy on Steam sales anymore. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Thrawn on December 07, 2012, 10:26:47 AM XCOM and Dishonred in that order, but probably only if I can get them under $20 since I might not get to them for a while.

Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Wasted on December 18, 2012, 03:59:23 AM Skyrim was a deal at full price, I can't imagine wanting to wait for $10 on it. It was 150% US cost in Australia, and I don't want to support that sort of thing. I don't think people in the US really understand what rage-inducing facefucking bullshit this region discrimination is. It doesn't come down to how good the game is and if it is worth the price, it is all about imagining the shit-eating grin on jerkoff executives that add unnecessary borders to the internet and decide we should pay more for no good reason except they think we will. its killed the excitement of upcoming sales for me, because I've gotten to the point where even with a big discount on a game if its has discriminatory pricing I still can't support that philosophy and buy it. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Cyrrex on December 18, 2012, 04:24:25 AM I don't think people in the US really understand what rage-inducing facefucking bullshit this region discrimination is. As someone who has lived a significant amount in both the US and Europe, I understand where you're coming from...but it's true of far more things than just video games. Shit, where I am now it is true of virtually every consumer product, real and digital. Should digital products be exempt and held to a different standard? I wish it were so, but I doubt it ever will be. I have programmed myself to look at things in relative terms, but I'll admit it is hard to choke down paying up to 100 dollars on a new AAA title. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: KallDrexx on December 18, 2012, 05:25:57 AM What's hard to choke down is when I was in Australia it was cheaper for me to ship games from Amazon UK than to buy them locally or on steam.

Shit, where I am now it is true of virtually every consumer product, real and digital. Should digital products be exempt and held to a different standard? Yes, I think they they should be. It's one thing to pay a moderate mark up for being a smaller volume market, a distant market with transport costs and supporting local retail but none of this applies to digital downloads so it just comes across as gouging. Support it and they've got no reason not to keep doing it (even though I think the high price is choking their sales in any case). That and I did want to finish my Oscuro's overhaul playthough of Oblivion first, but I'm beginning to doubt I'll ever manage that. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ingmar on December 18, 2012, 11:38:40 AM I assume there's an element of having/wanting to price it the same as phyiscal copies available in the country when the game is new. I'm not saying you don't have a good point, but presumably you need to make the case for phyiscal console copies of Skyrim for example to also be cheaper than they currently are? No publisher is going to want to undercut themselves in that way I assume.

I assume there's an element of having/wanting to price it the same as phyiscal copies available in the country when the game is new. I'm not saying you don't have a good point, but presumably you need to make the case for phyiscal console copies of Skyrim for example to also be cheaper than they currently are? No publisher is going to want to undercut themselves in that way I assume. I'm pretty sure the distributors here (primarily EB games) pressure the publisher to bring the prices up to retail level mark-up. You quite often get to see things like Dark Souls that fly under their radar, have US prices on steam and then suddenly jump over night by 40-60%. But most of these places really only sell console games, their PC offerings are miniscule, so it annoys to be supporting them too. Then again, thanks to steam, I have a sufficient back-log I also don't care as much if some game isn't available. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Sky on December 18, 2012, 05:42:27 PM Brick and mortar shops need to stop pretending to stock PC games. Maybe put Warcraft out there. You guys fucked up buying PC games at retail so many years ago I barely remember having to drive somewhere to buy a game. Even if I wanted a physical copy I'd just hit up Amazon.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ingmar on December 18, 2012, 05:49:22 PM It isn't just PC copies though; if the 360 version is sitting there at $90 no distributor is going to want the PC version to be 1/3 cheaper at release. It seems kind of absurd that putting it on a boat to Australia and sticking a kangaroo on the label adds another $30 onto the price of course, even for physical copies.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: rk47 on December 18, 2012, 05:51:57 PM Can't someone just buy them a copy and 'gift' it?
And then you 'gift' them back thru paypal? Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Samwise on December 18, 2012, 06:01:07 PM I think you aren't allowed to gift a copy to someone who's in another price zone or whatever. Although if I'm wrong that is indeed a nice loophole.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on December 18, 2012, 07:58:10 PM I think you aren't allowed to gift a copy to someone who's in another price zone or whatever. Although if I'm wrong that is indeed a nice loophole. The problem is you could create a niche business by selling people in other price zones that game for 50% of the difference. Valve doesn't want that. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kageru on December 18, 2012, 10:05:09 PM I don't think Valve cares that much, they don't set the prices and I'm sure they're not interested in policing them. They also understand better than anyone that the trick is in volume of sales. They probably tell the companies that this approach reduces sales and encourages piracy so has a downside but that would be it. But like all mainstream sellers they have to play along with it. I mean EB in Australia is a division of GameStop (dumb name) who I assume have a lot of clout with the producers. Some games apparently have their own region locking but it's hard to know for sure. I assume this is the same reason Amazon games are US only. Green Man Gaming was happily under-selling steam on the PC version of Demon Souls, even lots of the threads on the steam forums directing people there, and those threads stayed up for quite a bit. Not sure why they could and steam could not, possibly because they fly under the distributors radar. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Wasted on December 19, 2012, 03:02:27 AM There are lots of people gifting cross region. I set up a US steam account myself once to get Civ 5. There are import stores that cater to us quite well based out of the UK, and steam key resellers and the likes of Greenmangaming that are either just flouting the rules or using some quirk of UK laws. Its commonplace to see guides on how to use proxies and whatever to set up US accounts for all major media distributers (itunes, netflix etc)We have the options but for me the underlying problem still remains, these (generally eula breaking) backdoor methods still reward the publishers with a sale and really feels like it legitimizes them exploiting the ignorant while grudgingly letting us jump through hoops just for some equality.
It is far more a philosophical thing for me than monetary, and gets me pretty worked up sometimes when I let it. i don't want to pirate, I want to reward good work, but I don't want an internet with borders. I'm a part of international communities and want to have the same access to media as everyone else. I know the excuses these media companies all make, the contractual obligations they have, but at the end of the day they don't excuse what I see as just plain discrimination. Discrimination that is more easily dismissed because people think entertainment isn't important, and because its based through business and not government. But anyway derail and rant over, I am trying to avoid getting too much into politics territory. :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on December 19, 2012, 06:45:03 AM Tomorrow all hell breaks loose. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kail on December 20, 2012, 12:10:11 PM Anyone played Darksiders 2? Worth 13 bucks? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00APOVDDY?t=slicinc-20&tag=slicinc-20 I thought it was pretty great. It's largely down to a personal taste thing, though, gameplay wise it's basically just a mash up of God of War and Zelda, competently done but not earth shattering. The big draw for me is the over the top mythology and art style, so if you don't dig the screenshots, you can probably safely skip it. But I'm having a lot of fun with it. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on December 20, 2012, 12:10:51 PM I personally hated it, but it was due to the controls.

II has a bunch of RPG elements (Diablo-style loot, skill trees, etc.) thrown into it which allows you go customize your character a lot more than the first one. That may or may not make it more interesting to you.Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Zetor on December 20, 2012, 12:51:52 PM Picked up Batman AA and AC, even though it's just adding to my backlog. New Daily deals: Fear, Psychonauts, Dishonored, Tom Clancey, Darksiders, and Sim City 4. I'm certainly considering Dishonored for $30, but not sold due to it's length. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: bhodi on December 21, 2012, 10:33:46 AM What the heck is airmech?
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Segoris on December 21, 2012, 10:53:21 AM Yeah, Dishonored at $30 makes me cautious with the length. If the Bethseda package goes on sale I'll pick that up then since I also want Skyrim anyways
Darksiders 2 Franchise Pack for $13.59 is pretty damn nice for those who own most of the THQ pack but don't own DS2 Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ard on December 21, 2012, 11:22:07 AM I thought dishonored was absolutely worth the money at $40 when I bought it. It's a good game, and actually has a fairly decent length if you're an explorer, and does have some replayability. Think my first run took around 20 hours because I went looking for everything.

Doublefine bundle? Steam = $10, Amazon = $7.50. Edit: Looks like the Steam doublefine bundle comes with Iron Brigade, so it's not exactly a case of Amazon having the better price. I think it won't go lower than 50% (too early for 60 or 75, not to mention a base price drop), but it's highly possible that they will put it on sale again in the final couple days (usually reserved for the most wanted titles), if you're still on the fence. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Hawkbit on December 22, 2012, 10:05:32 AM Amular is on Amazon for $12, but you'd have to install Origin. See my previous post re: amazon and Canada. :heartbreak: Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ginaz on December 22, 2012, 11:05:59 AM New daily deals are up: Dawn of War Franchise 75% off, Train Simulator 2012 75%, Blood Bowl Franchise 50-75%, DOTA 2 50%, Dead Island 66%, Dungeon Defenders 75%.

It was on sale during the Black Friday week sale so I would expect it to be on sale again though I have no idea what day that will be.Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Merusk on December 22, 2012, 12:50:49 PM Yeah, it's on sale right now for the same amount as the BF sale, $39, so I'm just waiting to see if it goes lower really. It's over a year old so I was expecting it to be cheaper than full price when not on sale. If the PS3 version wasn't getting hosed so badly on patches and DLC I'd just pick it up at gamestop.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Setanta on December 22, 2012, 01:01:26 PM Haven't bought anything yet as I still have over 100 games from previous sales that I still haven't played. X-Com may just change that.
On a side note, I saw the BFG version of Doom 3 go up for sale and given I actually liked the original/XPack but have lost my CDs I nearly bought it via Steam. Then I saw Greenmangaming had it for half the Steam sale price. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ginaz on December 22, 2012, 01:59:25 PM Yeah, it's on sale right now for the same amount as the BF sale, $39, so I'm just waiting to see if it goes lower really. You might want to try Green Man Gaming. Its selling for $40.19 right now, plus I believe you can use a code to get an additional 30% off, which would bring it down to around $28. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Segoris on December 22, 2012, 02:18:55 PM While it may be annoying, anyone know if it's definitely possible to make 3 transactions using that code? Buying Skyrim comes to ~$28, but the DLC doesn't get the discount if bought at once. If the DLC is bought separately in their own transaction each then the code seems to be usable, I just don't know if it flags your account or anything

Grabbed Binary Domain, largely because of the radicalthon rk47 did on it. Considered Anno 2070.. but DRM and I dislike Uplay from what I've seen of it since I grabbed Assassin's Creed 2 during the last big sale. Only two games I went into the sale thinking about grabbing were Max Payne 3 and Dishonoured.. but neither is cheap enough to warrant sitting on my hard drive un-played for 5-6 months as I work through my backlog of Steam games while also re-playing old games.

Steam DLC should work just fine with GF games - from the gamefly page: Quote Requires internet access for Steam activation. The base game is cheaper at GF and GMG when using coupons. The DLC is cheaper at steam (even after coupons). When buying the game and DLC together it comes out cheaper at steam. The cheapest to get everything is core game at GF and DLC at Steam, it comes to $39 for everything. Skyrim probably would have been more fun, but Secret World could probably use some support and will be interesting to explore. So many zombie games though. I'm really hoping Rocksmith gets a good sale...including DLC because that's what'll murder me. I'll end up grabbing at least a third, if not half, of the DLC. From stuff I know that would be fun to play along with, like the Allmans or Skynyrd to stuff I'd like to learn like Megadeth...lots of good stuff there. Still holding out for Risen 2 + DLC flash sale, then I'm done for the year. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: murdoc on December 27, 2012, 04:16:00 PM Really tempted by Sleeping Dogs.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Segoris on December 27, 2012, 04:25:14 PM Same, just finished downloading the demo so going to give that a try and see if I am swayed one way or the other.
edit-Demo was short, but for me it felt like it was a hybrid of Saints Row and Uncharted set in Hong Kong. The melee combat really is pretty good, and pretty brutal (in the demo alone I shoved guys into electrical window fans and left them hanging there, as well as holding a guy in a furnace and burning him alive....), additionally, I enjoyed the little bit of writing and voice acting that I saw in the demo and will pick up the game for now. It was inevitable. They got a longer run because they're lower profile than steam. Still, it was nice of them to confirm my suspicions as to who is pushing for it, Quote This was done at the request of the publisher based on local retailer feedback. We would rather not have had to do this but we really value the relationship with our publishing partner. Australian retail, which is nearly non-existent for PC titles anyway, certainly isn't getting a sale from me again.... not that it was. Bought myself FTL for linux though, was tempted anyway but it being on linux and 50% off made it a no-brainer. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Falconeer on January 02, 2013, 02:39:33 PM Everyone keeps saying The Walking Dead game has the saddest ending ever. I don't mind funny, happy, scary, gory, gruesome, I LOVE creepy, but I don't like sad. I love the series... all except the sad bits. Yeah, the game was seriously out of my comfort zone, in many places. But that's part of what makes it so great. I don't think I've ever felt such ownership in a game's story. I just finished it. Played it like crazzy over two days, as if it was a TV show marathon. Loved it, but you gotta be warned, there isn't much game here. Best definition I could come up with is it's a Bioware game without the game (but with all the cinematic, branching story, persistent consequences, etc). The whole thing clocked around 16 hours for me. As I said, it's a really well told zombie story/game. I honestly am so fed up with the presence of kids in dramatic/thriller/horror movies because they make EVERYTHING so predictable, and this makes no difference (if you are like me), since the whole point is more let's protect the kids than let's save myself. I don't like that. But even then, loved the ride, there are a few gut wrenching decisions that the game make sure you won't forget (it compares your choices with all the other players at the end of each chapter) and which make up for the inevitable plot holes here and there. The ending, as someone else said, is really heavy. I consider it a very good thing in a game of this genre. It's down to 18 from 24 for 3 more days. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Bzalthek on January 02, 2013, 03:31:58 PM You do have to make some gut wrenching decisions. Too bad you can't make others like "SHOOT ASSHOLE IN THE FUCKING HEAD NOW!" instead of trying to work together and smooth things out...

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1675242 Quote The Top Sellers list is based on revenue. Typically it calculates revenue generated over the previous 24 hours, but since these holiday sales are so short, we've changed it to calculate top revenue from the most recent 3 hours. It basically tells you what the top selling games are right now. I've missed the flash sale now but has anyone used Gamemaker Studio at all? Is it any good and is it worth getting any of the paid updates? Also how can you do IOS games with it when you have to do IOS development on a Mac with the SDK (and have purchased an Apple Developer subscription)? Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: KallDrexx on January 04, 2013, 06:05:05 AM I've missed the flash sale now but has anyone used Gamemaker Studio at all? Also how can you do IOS games with it when you have to do IOS development on a Mac with the SDK (and have purchased an Apple Developer subscription)? I've heard and read decent things about Gamemaker from people in the industry. It's good for prototyping fast and simple-ish games, especially if you aren't a programmer. Also, i'ts been used in some decently known indie games such as Spelunky. IOS works because it just compiles your product to an IOS compatabile format, but you'd probably still need an apple developer subscription and run it on a mac, but your main development can probably just work on windows if you want. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: murdoc on January 04, 2013, 06:42:07 AM I grabbed Dark Souls and am now not sure why... It sorta looks like I need a controller? No mouse support, or am I missing something obvious? For the PC, my understanding is you want DSFix and DSMFix http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=dsfix http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~petska/ Thanks for these - they made it a completely different game. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: MrHat on January 04, 2013, 12:29:12 PM I think this is the most games I've bought on a steam sale:
Sniper Elite Franchise Walking Dead Spec Ops: The Line Far Cry 3 Mark of the Ninja M&MH6 Sleeping Dogs All for about $110. Great haul of games. Tomorrow is the last day right? Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: JWIV on January 04, 2013, 01:01:49 PM This one has been rough on the wallet
To The Moon Railworks 3 Cologne-Dusseldorf Skyrim Hearthfire Skyrim Dawnguard Morrowind Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion Civ V Gods&Kings Endless Space PRR Baldwin Centipede F40PH California Zephyr Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kail on January 04, 2013, 01:10:14 PM Game maker studio professional now? Is it any good and is it worth getting any of the paid updates? Also how can you do IOS games with it when you have to do IOS development on a Mac with the SDK (and have purchased an Apple Developer subscription)? I've got it, it's pretty good for where I'm at personally (pretty basic knowledge of everything game-ish, not enough to code anything in C from scratch but enough to know the basic form of how it would work if I could). It's mostly just for 2d stuff, but really strikes a nice balance between flexibility and user friendliness, in my opinion. There's a gimped free version on Steam if you want to check it out (the software's actually classified as "free to play"), you can run through a tutorial or two and it should give you the gist of it. I've just got the basic $50.00 package, which just takes the limitations of the free version off, and it does everything I was looking for. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Rendakor on January 04, 2013, 10:00:05 PM This year hasn't been too bad for me:
Chantelise Fortune Summoners Dawnguard and Hearthfire (had Skyrim already) Crusader Kings 2 Quantum Conundrum Torchlight 2 Of those, I've only played TL2 and a bit of the Skyrim DLC. Next on the list is either QC or CK2, after I put down TL2. I'm not going to delve into the Skyrim stuff until Dragonborn comes out (hopefully some time this week) because I want to do a fresh playthrough. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Sky on January 04, 2013, 10:45:21 PM Civ V Gods & Kings - just in case I get that itch
HoMaM VI Fallen Enchantress (shut it, you know why) Drakensang 2 + expansion Sleeping Dogs Rocksmith (and a shitload of tunes) Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: apocrypha on January 05, 2013, 01:24:40 AM Very restrained for me, both S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, The Walking Dead and KOTOR2.
If either Carrier Command: Gaia Mission and/or Lego LOTR go lower than 50% I'll pick them up too, but I think that's unlikely. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Zetor on January 05, 2013, 01:43:00 AM I picked up
MTG: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 and 2013 Batman: AA GOTY Batman: AC GOTY Amnesia The Walking Dead All were under 5E except for Walking Dead at 12.50E - still worth it, imo (even though the actual gameplay was nothing to write home about). Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Evildrider on January 05, 2013, 02:19:35 AM Only thing I picked up this time was the THQ bundle.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: jakonovski on January 05, 2013, 03:06:24 AM Kinda weird, I only got Awesomenauts and the Walking Dead from the Steam sale. Other digital retailers were wayyyy cheaper:
XCOM (gamersgate) Sleeping Dogs (gamefly) Anno 2070 (gamefly) Assassin's Creed 3 (cdon) Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Wasted on January 05, 2013, 08:08:01 AM I bought Natural Selection 2 on day 1 I think and found the rest of the sale pretty meh. Too many repeats, I never feel like any particular sale is special or urgent and nothing extra to participate in like previous years. Anything I don't get now will have some sale later on, so I'll wait till I have time to actually play it, if ever.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: bhodi on January 05, 2013, 10:03:39 AM I bought a bunch of stuff. It started slow but I ended up with:
Civ V Gods and Kings expansion Rage Sleeping Dogs Hotline Miami Mark of the Ninja Dead Rising 2 complete pack Binary Domain I might pick up skyrim or some other stuff depending on what goes on sale. I didn't bother with other retailers because I like the no-hassle two click buy of steam and I can't use amazon visa credits for digital downloads yet. I already own most of the other stuff. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Sky on January 05, 2013, 10:15:02 AM Amazon visa credits bought my Rocksmith cable :)
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Rasix on January 05, 2013, 10:27:46 AM Somehow I just got Sleeping Dogs for 91% off.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Fabricated on January 05, 2013, 11:18:22 AM I picked up KOTOR2 again since I can't find my key despite having my CDs...where's that complete overhaul mod that actually got released unlike the team gizka stuff?
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: HaemishM on January 05, 2013, 11:36:40 AM Fairly sedate year for me, but I was very adamant about what price I would pay for stuff.
Civ V Gods and Kings and all the DLC Crusader Kings II and some DLC Some Saints Row the Third DLC Football Manager 2013 The Freedom Force Pack Tropico 4 Of course, I'm still working through last year's backlog, so it isn't like I HAD to have Dishonored or anything. Steam has made it so I will likely never NOT have something to play. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Thrawn on January 05, 2013, 01:07:53 PM XCOM off Gamersgate
Sims 3 on Steam for the wife just to de-disc annnd I think that's it. I wish I could say that I just had great willpower but I think it's more that often I just already own all the games on sale that I might want. :ye_gods: Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kail on January 05, 2013, 02:22:51 PM Yeah, pretty quiet year for me too. Most of the stuff I got was $5.00 or less.
From Steam: Cargo Commander Civ V Gods and Kings (finally) Dota 2 Forge Intrusion 2 (don't even remember what this is) Miner Wars Natural Selection 2 Resonance All the Sonic stuff I didn't already have, Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and some DLC for Generations Universe Sandbox Also got XCOM as a christmas gift  From GoG: Guilty Gear Isuka King's Quest Collection Police Quest Collection Shattered Steel Witcher (don't know why, I already have it on Steam) XIII Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on January 05, 2013, 04:47:19 PM I got
DA:O Awakening plus all the DLC AC 1 and 2 Bioshock 1 and 2 Batman Arkham Asylum and City Dark Souls DE: Human Revolution Towns Tropico 4 And Hearthfire/Dawnguard for Skyrim. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ingmar on January 05, 2013, 04:51:34 PM I bought zero things because I haven't finished my "play 10 things from the backlog" challenge. Being on vacation away from temptation and then having a broken PC when I got home helped me stay strong, I doubt I'd have been able to do it otherwise. :why_so_serious:
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Paelos on January 05, 2013, 04:53:42 PM Oh also Azazel was nice enough to gift me Dawn of War. So thanks for that!
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: murdoc on January 05, 2013, 05:23:03 PM Civ V Gods and Kings
Deadlight Saints Row 3 Dark Souls Pretty quiet sale for me - I keep eying Sleeping Dogs, but I think Dark Souls will keep me busy for awhile. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kageru on January 05, 2013, 06:11:03 PM Just filling up gaps myself, there didn't seem to be that many new games. Outside of the indie titles. And I'm poor anyway so picking up some bargains is fine. The Secret World Dead Island (though I'm sick of zombies). They Bleed Pixels FTL (to play on linux) Torchlight 2 Thief 1 Kotor 2 Tomb Raider: Legend (so I have all the new iteration) Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Sjofn on January 05, 2013, 06:12:34 PM Someone bought me TL2 for Christmas and I bought a Tropico 4 DLC. Oh, and a CK2 DLC. SPENDY.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: calapine on January 05, 2013, 08:24:33 PM Something nifty for the Steam Encore sale, which I think is easy to miss:
Civ V Game of the Year edition is available as an upgrade too. So if you own the basic one, switching to GOTY version costs 2.5$ at the moment. Mostly worth it for those who don't own the DLCs yet. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: MrHat on January 05, 2013, 09:24:50 PM Something nifty for the Steam Encore sale, which I think is easy to miss: Civ V Game of the Year edition is available as an upgrade too. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Arinon on January 05, 2013, 09:33:59 PM Made out relatively unscathed with just FTL. Great game. Want to try BL2 and Dishonored but they need to drop a bit more.
Some day I'll get over my hatred of GFWL and get Arkham City. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Kageru on January 05, 2013, 09:46:21 PM I'll start buying GFWL and Origin games as soon as I've finished everything on my steam backlog. Should happen *real soon now*. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Hawkbit on January 05, 2013, 10:09:07 PM I did Two Worlds 2, and lucky that was only $7.50 because I didn't really like it. Also got Awesomenauts, which is fairly fun. Seems like DOTA2 or LoL gateway drug. Someone gave me DOTA2 key, so I'll be checking that out.
But my prize was Morrowind for $5. Haven't played it in maybe 7-8 years. I installed the 3.0 overhaul, and wow. They don't make games like this anymore. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Rasix on January 05, 2013, 10:12:15 PM Morrowind has a special place in my heart. I think I've just played it to death, because I can't get going on any recent attemps. Still haven't beat it.
I picked up Skyrim DLC, Walking Dead (for when I want to get depressed), and Sleeping Dogs (because Valve messed up and had it for $.50). I'm OK with this. I might actually play some of it. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Raguel on January 06, 2013, 01:28:51 AM xcom is now 50% off at Amazon :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: bhodi on January 06, 2013, 06:45:18 AM Uuuugh. My love of Anno has overcome my hatred of UbiAIDS. Got the expansion pack for $11 or whatever it was. I have really been itching for a city builder and just barely avoided buying towns. I wish prison architect would hurry up and come out.
Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Lucas on January 07, 2013, 05:08:06 AM My Xmas campaign ended with:
- Received Dishonored and CKII as a gift from my father  - Sleeping Dogs - Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - Endless Space - Assassin Creed II: Deluxe Edition - Arma II: Army of the Czech Republic DLC Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Hoax on January 08, 2013, 10:10:44 AM -Darksiders 1 & 2
-DE:HR + dlc -Endless Space -The one Shogun 2 faction dlc I didn't own -Witcher 2 Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Ceryse on January 08, 2013, 11:20:45 AM I grabbed:
- Fortune Summoners - Chantelise - Max Payne 3 (gifted to me) - Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion - Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (I suck at using controllers, apparently, and don't know if I'll ever play this again) That's it. I was actually a bit disappointed in this year's sale. I got most of what I expected to get (Dishonoured and Sleeping Dogs were on my list but one wasn't cheap enough and the other had so much DLC I just said fuck it), but the sheer number of repeats bothered me for some reason. Title: Re: Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Post by: Viin on January 08, 2013, 05:00:29 PM I got a lot, but I'm too ashamed to admit to all of it. Likely I won't play more than a few games, but who knows I might get laid off.
I did get three that I will fess up to: - Anno 2070 - Dark Souls - SoaSE: Rebellion Enjoying AI-challengers in SoaSE, will try multiplayer sometime. |
