I'm starting this at pretty much the last minute, so it may be difficult to get going, but I'd like to hold a F13 Movember challenge.

For those that don't know, "During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer.

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health."

It's a good cause, but it's an even better excuse to answer the age old question of "what would I look like with a moustache".

If I could get enough guys here willing to grow a moustache for a month, I'd be willing to put up a couple Amazon gift cards as a prize for the most money raised and of course, the best moustache grown this month.

This is cool. At the same time, there's a moment of realization about one's age, and nothing brings that home like the gaming forum of your 20s raising awareness about prostrate cancer. Thanks for reminding me how danged old I'm getting! Now were's the danged self-test kit? Oh, wait, that's right, there isn't one. First person who invents that is going to be a billionaire overnight.

I'd totally consider it, but were I to shave my moustache off completely, I wouldn't grow enough back in one month to notice it! Plus I just don't think I'm willing to restart the goatee.

That being said, I heartily support anyone willing to do it.

I really want to do this, but I'm not sure that my boss would like that and it I'm sure I'll look like an idiot. Never grown a mustache, so I'm sure it'll come out nasty, and I look like I'm 19.

I hate Movember and this weird societal obsession with beards and mustaches. And I double-super-hate the girls who have gotten on board with it and rock fake mustaches. Just throwing in my opinion. Yes, before you ask, I probably hate the whole thing because I'm as hairy as Robin Williams and struggle daily with looking like a Movember contestant.

Don't worry about your boss, this is a great excuse if you're wanting to try.  I grew my beard because I, too, looked about 10 years younger than I am without it.

Yeah, worried about looking like an idiot is a poor excuse. The worse it looks, the better it is. Guys like Schild who grow a moustache overnight don't need an excuse like Movember.

I fully endorse Movember because of what's raising awareness of.

Also, there are sponsored MoRunning 10k events towards the end of the month in many major cities for those who occasionally run.

I've done this the last few Novembers and maybe after the wedding I'll hop on the bandwagon again.

This is cool but I really don't want to shave the goatee and start over, sans goatee. I'll end up looking a little too much like Rowsdower (sans hockey hair).

I'll have to think about it, as there's a good chance I'll be moving back into a public-facing position, and I don't think having halfway-there facial hair will really work, prostate cancer awareness or not.

Seems like that's the case. Looking around I see that any "International" term always links to multiple national sites for Movember. That sucks, but I guess it makes sense for making sure donations go to a charity in the country of choice.

At least I got a picture to upload now. I think there may be a size limit that they don't tell you about.

I didn't shave the mustache this morning in anticipation of  signing up.

I have to shave tomorrow morning for a huge exam, so I'll sign up that afternoon if I'm not dangerously depressed that evening.

The only donation offer I've received is one to not grow a moustache.

I shaved off my beard in preparation so my wife took that as a small victory.

When you solicit or receive donations is the name of the team part of it or displayed? I don't particularly want to advertise my participation here to colleagues if I hit them up for money as then they will see all the dumb shit I've posted over the years. In the alternative can the  team name be changed to something a bit more generic?

This might be a bad idea for the reason Ab posted. Was just about to send out an e-mail and realized it might not go over well being labelled as the Socialist Chapter. We could just go with plain old f13 Canada and f13 US. Website isn't apparent, shows we're together and no one will mistake who they're donating to.

Yup, all your donations are included in the team totals. I'm thinking that the team donations are more for celebrity teams. A lot of the NHL teams up here are running Movember teams.

I've been contemplating having a sorta business card I could hand out when I get the question (or more likely a quizzical look) that had some info and my homepage address on it. Anyone enterprising and graphically gifted want to take a shot at designing one for me?

It should be card shaped like a moustache so you can hold it up to your face before you hand it to them.

Unfortunately I have to renege - pretty much an unspoken rule that if you're going to go with facial hair, do it while you're on leave or something. I'm going into my new position and will be out in front a bit sooner than I thought, and since my facial hair is Terrible, there shall be no 'stache for me.

Daily updates will do that. It's much harder to see the change. It should get a bit better by the middle of next week. Usually at about 5-6 days unshaved it goes from blonde and barely visible to brown and disgusting.

Pfft, mine looks exactly the same. It's just that I look younger people make that claim. Same reason people say I can't grow facial hair. Boggles my mind.

If you look at my picture in the "Follicular foibles" thread I can grow a pretty good, dark chin beard but my moustache is just plain broken.

All hair around my mouth looks the same. Sideburns and cheeks? Dirty looking. I could probably grow some serious mutton chops if I wanted to.

I appreciate you guys for looking ridiculous for a month for this. At the risk of taking this to Serious Business, my Mother just finished a year of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment that began on Christmas eve last year. My Dad is currently going through the early stages of diagnosing and treating prostate cancer so this is something that has hit my family quite hard this year.

I know it was a last minute thing, and I know we ALL look fairly ridiculous but the results have surpassed anything I could have expected.

Its the first here, but it's still on! My GF likes it, so I have to make sure I don't get rid of it w/o consulting her. Sick of it being itchy, though.

Couldn't make it to the gala last night, which was a shame as I had two tickets and they held it at Luna Park.

It will never 100% stop itching, but eventually you'll only rarely notice it. Particularly if you let it get Sam Elliot-like. Mine always itches more when I prune it back.

Of course, if you let it get shaggy, you get the drink-filter issue...

I used a trimmer to get fairly short. Like it much better that way and might try actually shaping it now.

I'm just going to let mine go for a bit.  Unfortunately I'm going to have to grow something south of the lower lip though so the wife will actually speak to me.  I'm hoping for a sirius black sort of mustache here soon.

lamaros wins the sleaziest dapperiest( :headscratch:) moustache, with MuffinMan a sleazy dapper second. Ab and Ghost both grew pretty decent ones that actually suited them, and I can't believe Nix is considering keeping that thing on his face. I noticed that one of Nix's co-workers grew a pretty decent 'stache too.
