Title: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 07, 2009, 12:32:06 PM New topic so as not to dilute the other.
I have access to an undetermined amount of MAG beta keys for PS3. Post if you want in. Note: I had a bad time with the game but now I want to play so bad now that I can do so from the comfort of my own home. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Mrbloodworth on September 07, 2009, 12:32:41 PM WANT.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 07, 2009, 12:41:46 PM Turns out I got the whole stack of keys.
Also codes become active on9/17 and this Beta supposedly ends on 11/08. Probably because of something that releases on 11.10.09... Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 07, 2009, 05:54:41 PM There are plenty and will start going out this weekend when I get home from PAX. Though the humorous submissions of want-ness might be a future prerequisite to getting a key, because that shit is funny.

Beta is only available for 6 hours each day, between 10am - 1pm and 5pm - 8pm PST. Monday - Friday. >_>;
Here's the general instructions: To redeem the code: Go to the Playstation Store on the PLAYSTATION3 system XMB. - Select "Redeem Codes" - Enter the code (that I give) - Click Continue - The download will be on the next screen. To visit the website: Step 1: Go to www.us.playstation.com Step 2: In the upper right hand corner of the page header you will see the Playstation Network icon and Playstation Network ID module. If you are already logged in, go to Step 3. Otherwise, Login. Step 3: Once logged in, you will find a BETA button next to your Playstation Network ID in the page header. Click on the Beta button to enter the Beta Central section of Playstation.com. Step 4: Read the Beta Test Program Participation Agreement and then click Continue to accept the agreement and be taken to the MAG Beta Central homepage. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: ffc on September 17, 2009, 03:48:17 PM I didn't even have my PS3 set up in time. Sad. But it's because it's out of my control until my roommate resets the HDMI setting back to Component. Note to Sony: Not being able to auto-detect what video input is in the system is the most colossal engineering fuck-up of your system. Hook up your normal cables and then hold down the power button. The PS3 will turn on, make a second beep, and reset the video. I've been trying to get this goddamn patch for like 2 days. Keeps disconnecting. Even if you were successful previously downloading the patch there is an "update" as of this morning that would require you to download the entire game again plus a little extra. 2.6GB I think. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 17, 2009, 04:00:13 PM Well, shit.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: CaptainNapkin on September 17, 2009, 06:48:03 PM Now I know what the "Massive" stands for. I'd installed it once but hadn't fired it up yet. Normally wouldn't balk at 2.6gig, but somehow this download sucked the bandwidth throughout my entire network but didn't seem to be going very fast itself. Powered off the PS3 and got my speed back on the other machines, never had that kind of issue before.
Anyway, I'll fire it back up before I crash for the night, can't wait to check this one out at some point. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Hayduke on September 17, 2009, 06:56:31 PM Had to install a nearly 3 gig patch yesterday before the servers went on. Turned the PS3 on tonight figuring I'd be good to go only to get hit with a 2.6 gig patch. Eh, I don't mind so much but it's slow as hell to download stuff on my PS3 for whatever reason.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Fabricated on September 17, 2009, 10:31:04 PM I dunno what it is but my PS3 downloads slower than fuck off my Wifi connection despite being like 20 feet away from my WAP.
This download has been going for over 5 hours now and it's still not half done. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Trippy on September 17, 2009, 10:43:34 PM Don't worry, when it gets to 99% it'll get stuck there forever and of course when you try to redo it it'll download everything from the beginning. Or at least that's what's happening to me at the moment.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: apocrypha on September 17, 2009, 11:58:24 PM That sucks. My download at least seems to be capable of resuming. It is very slow though, and I'm wired, so I suspect it's their patch delivery that's slow.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Mrbloodworth on September 18, 2009, 06:25:38 AM I, didn't have the issues you guys do. I just started the download, and made dinner, done. Of course I haven't gotten today's patch ( :oh_i_see: ), the server times are not conducive to me playing this.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Falconeer on September 18, 2009, 08:07:15 AM I got in last night, created a toon, but there were just 15 others logged in, and for some reason no one was my faction. Waited in queue for 30 minutes then went to sleep without a single game starting. I guess everyone is still downloading the patch.
On a side note, I got the patches before you guys? Where's the server located, in my basement? Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Hayduke on September 18, 2009, 09:07:30 AM My second patch died at 40%. So... who knows.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 18, 2009, 12:20:06 PM I should be able to get a character created in time for tonight's session.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Velorath on September 18, 2009, 02:02:19 PM Took me pretty much all day yesterday to download the patch, but made a character (S.V.E.R. faction) and got in some playtime today.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: MrHat on September 18, 2009, 02:17:02 PM Same. Unofficial F13 corporation?
Edit: I'm also reminded how poorly I fair at thumbstick aiming. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 18, 2009, 04:42:10 PM I wish they had put the training into the Beta.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: ffc on September 18, 2009, 05:02:24 PM I like voice chat but in my squad every single person was coughing and sneezing into their mics. I think I caught swine flu.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Trippy on September 18, 2009, 05:32:20 PM Trying download attempt #4 :uhrr:
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Scudeye on September 18, 2009, 06:34:36 PM I'll take one if I'm not too late thx! :awesome_for_real:
Note: sorry if i posted twice my computer didn't show that i did. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 18, 2009, 07:46:28 PM Send me a PM Scudeye so we may discuss the terms of your surrender.
I read the forums and they have a decent bug reporting interface. But now there's queueing issues today. I guess I'll start Monday? Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: ffc on September 18, 2009, 09:51:04 PM Those forums are true badlands.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Scudeye on September 19, 2009, 02:59:13 PM I sent you a PM, but your not responding. :tinfoil:
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Mrbloodworth on September 21, 2009, 03:59:27 PM This game is awesome.
Initial impressions. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 21, 2009, 05:19:07 PM Fuck you and your schedule. :P
I am going to play tonight. I had all day Friday but they had queuing issues. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Velorath on September 21, 2009, 05:39:42 PM This game is awesome. Initial impressions. I think it's also under NDA, so you might want to refrain from posting more impressions. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Trippy on September 21, 2009, 06:06:28 PM Yes it is.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Sauced on September 21, 2009, 06:51:29 PM Two failed download attempts for me so far.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: apocrypha on September 22, 2009, 12:15:00 AM Two failed download attempts for me so far. I take back what I said about download resuming earlier, it's not doing so for the 2nd 2+Gb one, which has now failed 3 times for me, so I'm giving up. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on September 22, 2009, 10:00:13 AM This game is awesome. Initial impressions. I think it's also under NDA, so you might want to refrain from posting more impressions. My initial impressions from the public display at Penny Arcade Expo where no NDA's were signed by the fans was that the game was difficult to understand at first without any manuals. Very unintuitive. However the gunplay felt solid and reminded me of a mixture of COD4 meets SOCOM. It should be no wonder because all the SOCOM hardcore players are sporting a major woody over this game. The Beta (covered by NDA) has improved my opinion. That is all. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Teleku on October 12, 2009, 08:54:59 AM Is this game still under NDA, or can I post about it?
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Trippy on October 12, 2009, 09:16:52 AM Still under NDA. Read the in-game License if you are unsure.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: HB714 on October 31, 2009, 02:46:13 PM Hi Lorekeep,
I'm late to the game and just found this topic. Do you have any more beta keys, one of which I can have? Say yes now. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: schpain on November 01, 2009, 05:16:00 PM Isn't this game now in open beta, or have i got my dates muddled?
NDA lifted then? I've been capped and generally spoilt for games lately (uncharted + borderlands) so i haven't gotten on to download it three times. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: stu on January 05, 2010, 08:48:56 AM Looks like open beta started last night. Took a little while to download, but the game is okay so far.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: NiX on January 05, 2010, 03:57:40 PM You can tell it was made by the guys who did SOCOM. So far that's a bad thing to me.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: ffc on January 05, 2010, 05:18:42 PM I was loving MAG during closed beta. Leveled to 40 twice. The squad/platoon leadership options are really fun and I liked the large scale combat even though level design basically turned it into 8v8 or 16v16. Then I tried Bad Company 2. Complete sensory overload in comparison. Everything from combat to vehicles to destructible environments made the game really feel alive.
Now that I'm back playing MAG it feels slow and grindy. At least healing people is still fun. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Nonentity on January 08, 2010, 01:14:09 AM FUCK. I WISH THIS GAME WAS ON PC. I like what they are doing with the levels, and the three PMCs, and the various squad stuff, but - console shooter.
I was futzing around with it getting more and more frustrated as guys I clearly saw way before they saw me still killed me as I tried to flip the sticks into place to put a shot off. I shut off my PS3 in frustration and bought Global Agenda, and played a first place round of Modern Warfare 2 just to make myself feel better about being a PC shooter only type. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Hawkbit on January 27, 2010, 04:29:44 PM This came out. Anyone?
I didn't much care for the game in beta. Seemed to have too much going on and I'd never see what killed me. I'm old and slow, I suppose. Interesting concept about the sheer number of people playing though. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: schild on January 27, 2010, 04:42:05 PM Coming in next week.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Ard on January 27, 2010, 04:54:02 PM I've got it. I've been playing as Raven. I'm thinking this might have been a grave tactical decision on my part though. 0-4 for matches last night. I was doing much better than that in beta. Could just be the influx of newbies, going to see how it pans out later this week before jumping sides. I like the game a lot though, which is odd since I'm not normally that big into shooters.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: LK on January 29, 2010, 04:01:55 PM I think BF:BC2 might have more depth out of the box compared to this game.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Azazel on February 02, 2010, 09:35:15 PM Nod. In between BF:BC2 and AVP both coming out on the PC, my interest in this has waned to next to nothing.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Vision on February 02, 2010, 09:41:28 PM So for PS3 owners, is this a thumbs up or a don't bother?
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: schild on February 02, 2010, 09:43:21 PM Mine is sitting at my rental office :(
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Velorath on February 03, 2010, 01:35:32 AM So for PS3 owners, is this a thumbs up or a don't bother? Played the beta for a few weeks. It was good short term fun, but somewhat repetitive. Didn't really give me a reason to keep coming back to it. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: stu on February 03, 2010, 10:13:17 AM I was psyched for this game's release and almost creamed my jeans when it went into open beta. My disappointment was deep enough that I went out and purchased MW2 when the price temporarily dropped by ten dollars at Best Buy.
The interface for the upgrades was a major turn-off. I couldn't figure out how to apply weapon changes as I leveled. Not sure if they changed it and I feel like there must have been something super-obvious that I kept missing. So much so that's it's embarrassing to admit. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Azazel on November 12, 2010, 02:59:51 PM Arise!
I couldn't find a thread for this aside from the Beta one - Did/does anyone play this or have anything to share on it? It's pretty cheap now, so I'm wondering if it's worth picking up for a go-around, or if I may as well skip it (and does it have an active population, or are they all playing MW/MW2/Black Ops?) Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Velorath on November 12, 2010, 03:14:52 PM I had a decent amount of fun with it in Beta, but never bothered with retail. Not sure what the population is like, but the game got a fairly substantial update a couple months back. (http://blog.mag.com/blog/2010/09/patch-alert-mag-2-0/)
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Hawkbit on November 12, 2010, 05:06:55 PM I was waiting for it to drop into the $20 price point, but from what I've heard they're going into subscription-style service to stay afloat. Extra toon slots are rented... just from what I hear.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: NiX on November 12, 2010, 06:24:58 PM I was waiting for it to drop into the $20 price point, but from what I've heard they're going into subscription-style service to stay afloat. Extra toon slots are rented... just from what I hear. Uh, they're charging for extras. That's it. No subscriptions. As for the 2.0 update, apparently it's almost like a new game now and nothing like the beta we played. Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Zetleft on November 12, 2010, 06:41:47 PM I played it shortly after release and thought it really sucked. Sold my copy before this update so no idea of the current state of the game and with Black Ops out now I have no reason to look.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Azazel on November 12, 2010, 11:13:04 PM I might go see if there's a downloadable demo. I should probably skip it, since I don't have the time to sink into games all that much right now, and the BF series tends to be my online shooter of choice. And on PC.
hm, no demo. The extra character slots you guys mentioned cost AU$1.75/month. That makes me want to play so much more. :uhrr: Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Ard on November 13, 2010, 12:17:30 PM There's supposed to be a demo out. Wonder if it's awol in your territory though.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Mrbloodworth on November 13, 2010, 12:34:53 PM Solid game, just not my style.
Title: Re: MAG Beta Access Post by: Azazel on November 13, 2010, 02:06:12 PM There's supposed to be a demo out. Wonder if it's awol in your territory though. Yeah. If there is one, it's not on the Aussie PSN MAG pages. There's Beta access if you already have the game, some free guns, etc, but no actual demo. |
