So, 5 years later, who thought we'd still be around? I think me and Joe were the only ones. Maybe Ookii! How exactly does it count this? Like I said, I literally almost never close my browser, and F13 is on the first tab. Shouldn't I have a much higher number? Or does it go by how long that tab/browser holds focus? I am a fast reader...

My guess is that it's "actively browsing" time.  At the bottom of the index there's a list of users "active in the last 15 minutes".  I'm thinking it's essentially counting up the amount of time that your name is on that list.  So it's not just having your browser open, it's having your browser open and having clicked or refreshed something in the last 15 minutes.

I imagine it's like this;
It has one counter for accumulated time.
It has a timestamp of the most recent login.
It has a timestamp of the most recent activity.

Every page visit refreshes the activity timestamp. If you let the session lapse (15 minutes), you will get (time of activity - time of login) added to your accumulated time next time you log in, and the timestamps will reset to current time. Meaning, if you just pull it up after the session has expired and just hit a refresh, you won't get more than a couple milliseconds of activity time, at most (unless they're set at the same time.)

No, you need a browser window open in the background that auto-refreshes itself if you want to rack up the "logged in" time. After you "idle" for a bit it no longer considers you "logged in" until you refresh/load a page again. If you watch the Users Online section at the bottom of the main page you can see this in action as people move down the list and eventually disappear as they idle.

For a site I saw in a thread called under the radar. I was looking for a site to read about games that was not blocked by work (I work for the fed). The site works the forums function. The community here rocks so hard. I lurk more than I post but I do post some. I really need to thank all of you for letting me get to know you. Oh man, I remember first joining WT.o. I posted under a different username for a while and eventually felt I'd said enough stupid things (I think I once told Bruce I respected his opinions, long before I realised what an asshat he actually is) to want a new start. I was sceptical when Schild took over, only partly because he was planning to turn this into some omnimedia review site where we'd discuss the latest release of Hollywood and indie films alongside games and albums. Or something, I really wasn't paying that much attention to details. Instead he went and kept the forum community going fantastically and occasionally published something interesting to do with games, I can only hope the Obama administration manages to prove right wing sceptics as wrong :awesome_for_real:

I actually got banned from WTO, but it was for some totally bullshit reason.  It wasn't even a good reason.  Some thing like off topic discussion or whatnot.

WTO was actually taking to banning many of the P2P posters just because they were coming from "that other site".

I was never banned from WTO, but was banned from SND during what was it's last week because of calling out the mods and basically insulting everyone, including myself, for blindly following "teh community" to another masthead.

Managed to dodge a similar banning on every Lum dispora site since then, but am still generally hated for daring to shatter the illusion that anyone on forums really cares about their fellow posters.

I lurked a bit in the end days of WTO and early days of F13.  I didn't actually create an account until much later, and I no longer remember why.  Is it possible to look up my *oldest* posts to see what convinced me to register?  Maybe I shouldn't look.  Probably embarrassing.  An officemate of mine was a fan of the site and I blame her for pointing me at it.  I don't think she's posted here in many years though.

In the long run it was probably good and bad for F13.  We have a much smaller group of folks here since probably a lot of decent people were apparently banned for giggles and probably never came back who would have boosted our numbers, but its good since we kind of know who we are to some degree.  Its cozy and all.  And even the arguments seem to be in mostly good fun.  I'd have a beer with most of yas anyhow.

Heck its been so long I barely remember most of the Lummite folks.   Only a handful I do recall.  Lum and Mrs Lum, Arcadian, Tweety, Joe, Haemish, the lady who kept trying to build a Lum spinoff and constantly failed (Angelstorm?), The Furry Mafia (Technogeek, Redfox, and two guys with a T for their handle's first name), and that creepy rich guy whose name I dare not speak lest he arrive like Hastur or the Battlecruiser 2000 dude. 

A few more I could probably say by personality, but their names have been lost.  Like the guy who caused Lum's site to go kersplooey when he probably did bad things with the site money, the angry lady who helped run things with Arcadian, some cute girl who was insanely hateful and rude, a couple of the Corpnewsers...

How time flies.  Hell, how time gets wasted.  Makes me wonder what the fuck I am doing with my life sometimes.

Well, I wasn't sure what to expect upon visiting this place after WTO. And I thought with schild at the helm we were headed for dark days. I'll acknowledge that the staff here is pretty damn good, and I like what ya done with the place.

Only Final Fantasy is higher (87 mill..) and its had more installments, more marketing, and more effeminate looking men in ridiculous outfits.

Dragon Quest doesn't stoop to that level.  Its (Mostly) classy like that.  Its quality fun and happy.

Believe I was banned too at the old WtO, for expressing counter-cultural political sentiments… …or maybe it was on SnD, everything's melded together, though 5 years of F13 is epic, considering the drama with the board hopping back in the day (I think the old LtM site changed up forum platforms on a monthly, if not biweekly basis…)…

I was banned for 3 or 5 days or something by someone who is now at Corp (I can't remember which one it was) for posting a link about something. I wasn't sure wtf happened, so I emailed Joe. He told me it was temporary and to just ride it out.

Reading the past few posts made me go back and read some of mine. This thread (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=33.0) simultaneously amused and horrified me. I haven't had a good flamefest like that for quite a while. If any of you are Sloth by another name, fuck you, btw  :awesome_for_real:

Heh, my 2 year anniversary here was just last week. I feel like part of the family!!!!! Yeah, fine, the mongoloid side but still..

Regardless, as much shit as I give Schild (that's pronounced Ess Child for you new guys, don't let him fool ya) this is the only forum / discussion site I've ever willingly donated to. Money well spent.

Hmmm.  Couple of things : 

1 - Yeah, you went off on him right quick.
2 - No idea why you did.  He was well wrong and obviously so.
3 - I bet WoW crushed his little dreams.
4 - So don't worry about it.

It is kinda funny to look back at your gaming preferences from years past to see if they've changed. Like for example look at the stuff people were writing in the WoW beta about possible raiding. Even back then I was looking for 20 man raids rather than the 40 man versions we started with, and it's come to be as the game developed.

The funny thing is that it took so long that my tastes now have changed to preferring even smaller raids.  :grin:

I know I have changed significantly. PvP used to make me wet my pants, and I was a big Trammel fan. Then I played Shadowbane and realized that AI will never give me even 10% of the challenge of fighting a thinking human. I can't see myself playing anything long term without significant PvP. Having to grind PvE crap in order to gear up for PvP eventually killed WoW for me.
