Welcome to another edition of "Bhodi's Short Bus" theater! I'll be your host, so let's get this thing started. I wanted to make this thread to share with you my short bus moments, and hopefully to get some people to share theirs. Because laughter is the best medicine, or something. Note that this thread is only for blatantly stupid or newbish things, not for plum bad luck. I'll allow a certain someone's t1 hauler adventures through lowsec with 300m worth of T2 hammerheads, however. That one goes beyond bad luck.


Only an hour ago, I was finishing up a L4 mission in my raven called Vengance (http://www.eve-survival.org/missions/vengeance4gu.html). At the end, it's got a queen bitch called "Rachen Mysuna" in a tweaked out 2.5 million bounty raven. There she was, hovering at 50km and I'm completely unable to break her tank. I figure my drones could tip the scales, but my drone range is only 45m. So, I hike the 3 jumps back, buy a 100mn AB, fit it out, and head back there.

I'm closing distance with her when she locks me up and starts firing back for 440 damage per torpedo. Her magical NPC torpedoes can travel 60km, so whatever. I'm slowly bridging the distance to drone range, but my cap is starting to run low. I know I'm not going to be able to keep the AB on for long. I've got 2 heavy NOS, but that range is even shorter than my drone range -- 25km.

Then, suddenly, I get a wonderful idea. I get a marvelous idea. I get a wonderfully marvelous idea.

I fly with an alt on my other monitor, the one I'm training up for covops. She's in a cormorant just salvaging stuff as I kill it. This is gonna be great. I lock her up, figuring that I can just siphon some of her cap and use it to bolster my own, until I can get in range of the NPC. She's in fleet with me, so it's no big deal, right? I fire both barrels.

I recover my senses. Apparently, you must be in the same corp, not just the same fleet to fire upon someone. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle. Luckily, LC was on hand to help me kill the bitch, recover my wreck, and finish the mission. This will all be worth it, because according to the mission cheat sheet, "Loot from Mysuna can be quite good (like Arbalest Cruise + Siege, named 350mm Railgun etc)". WRONG! I get "Cruise Missile Launcher I" and 100 cruise missiles.

Total loss: 20m. (Cue laugh.). Not funny enough? Fine. Go back and click the concordokken to see where that term comes from. Seriously. Watch that video.

Here's my other glorious post buried in the recruitment thread. It's too funny not to go here as well. I am *STILL* trying to work off my standing hit, which is why I was running missions like the one above!

119h, 52m ago - Mammoth - ECM Burst. This thing is cool; it'll break locks on anyone who targets me. I'll just stick that right on there, it fits great. OK, time to undock and check it out. Well, I'm in jita moon 4, the main trade hub of the game and there are about 15 people in range. Well, it won't do anything if no one's targeting me, right? So I wonder what the effect looks like. Where's the activate button? Oh, it's like a smartbomb that hits everything in range. Aggression, -0.5% standings X15 + Caldari Sentry Gun II. There goes 10mil in mammoth and cargo hold IIs.

At least some folks laughed eh?

"Wrecks are dangerous"

We have an alliance mining op going in some hi-sec system. Lots of people mining and others providing security (as we are in war). We've been here for few hours and the belt has quite a few rat wrecks floating around. We're starting to wrap up the op but nobody has a salvager. Greedy bastards that we are, we don't want to let anyone else have the loot either so we decide to pop the wrecks.

People start targetting the wrecks and shooting them. Suddenly the overview fills with Concord ships and one of our faction-fitted battleships is under fire. Few seconds later it goes boom. We're like WTF just happened?

Turns out, the guy had just shot at a wreck belonging to another corp in our alliance. Being in the same fleet and the same alliance isn't enough.
Total loss: 100m+

I'll post this here even though it's not in-game stupidity.

So I had the flu last week.  It was bearable until Wednesday when I had to take the afternoon off.  I went home, took some dextromethorphan and went to sleep.  When I woke, I felt better than I had in days and for the first time all week, felt like I could sit up and play some Eve.  Unfortunately, as soon as I logged in, it is announced that the servers are coming down for an hour.  No problem, I set a skill for two hours and logged off.

The fever and medicine combined into a perfect storm of clouded judgement.  I'll balance my bank account!  In the process, I notice that I only have one charge per month from CCP, which is odd considering that I play two accounts.  I double checked against Iriq's account on Eve's website, and I have not been charged since I reactivated both accounts three months ago.  Huh.

Now, this is the part with the little angel software developer on my right shoulder and the little devil software developer on my left.  I'm trying to figure out how CCP could make such fundamental mistake.  Collecting money is priority number one.  When I renewed Uriq, did it update the subscription table based on my name or credit card number or something else that isn't unique and applies to both accounts?

No matter - I'm not going to cheat CCP out of money they have earned creating a game I love to play.  As a programmer, I have a duty to look out for others in the same profession.  But before I compose a kind email to CCP alerting them of a potential revenue losing error, maybe I'll just try the easy solution.  I clicked renew on Iriq's account page.  Man, that dextromethorphan is good shit.  I am flying.

The server comes back up and I proceed to log in Uriq.  I open Eve on Iriq's PC and .. your account has been deactivated.  Wait - I just played three months without paying and now that I've paid my account is disabled?  I go back to Iriq's account page and CCP has charged my bank account five times!  I go to my bank account online and, sure enough, five consecutive charges from Iceland for 14.95 in less than thirty seconds.  A sixth charge, for the current month, is denied because, dumbasses, charging someone's bank account five times in a row for the same amount from Iceland tends to raise red flags at the bank.  So now CCP is banned from my bank account and I've just paid for six months of subscriptions on a secondary account that I played for three months.  And I can't log in.  AWWWWWESOME.

But here's the kicker.  By some miracle of me dropping the soap in Fate's shower, I did this on the same fucking day and at the same fucking time that Uriq's account is to renew.  As I'm giggling at my own honesty and the trouble it has caused me, Uriq is booted from the server with the 'account disabled' message.  Man, that dextromethorphan is good shit.  Woah, deja vu.

And what really got to me is that I had switched Uriq to a two-hour skill instead of leaving the six day skill that he was training.  Money I can make - skill training time is priceless.

So, the next time you find yourself in a moral dilemma that involves Eve, ask yourself, "What would Slayer do?"

About exactly a year ago, I started running in my first serious PvP gangs (as in, they actually expected not to die). We popped a squad of outlaw MDK BS with Claymore yarring in Solitude and started to collect the loot. All of a sudden, my guns are firing on the loot, the sentry guns decide I'm a target, and I have to bail before I lose my ship. "Weird," I thought.

Then, later, I'm camping a station waiting for an interceptor pilot to undock so I can instapop him in my Rupture. All of a sudden, my guns start shooting the station turrets, I'm like 30km off the undock point with no tank, and the turrets fire back. I lose that Rupture, and a frigate and noob ship while I test to see if my flag goes down. I am officially the first person to get shot by sentry guns in 0.0 that anyone I talk to has ever heard of, and I still don't know why my guns activate themselves during tense PvP moments.

After asking around, it comes out that I was priming my guns by pushing F1-F8 before the fight so I didn't have to remember to do it during. And, of course, when your guns are active with no target, just a single left click on anything on your overview or in space will target that object. When you target something with active guns, then of course they begin shooting immediately. I was just amusing myself by clicking on stuff in space and doing info or open cargo, but I was actually sending commands to shoot that space junk immediately.

Now none of you should ever make this mistake. Right click in space or click all your guns to deactivate them before clicking on things like gates or cans.

When assigned a courier mission it's usually wise to actually place the cargo in your ship before flying the 10 jumps to deliver it.

When placing a buy order on the market, where you place the decimal point matters... a lot... a whole lot.

Blindly warping to moons in lowsec and 0.0 in your fancy assed, high dollar ratting battleship can provide POS weapon systems with some great target practice, and you with some nifty explosion screenshots.

If you think a cloak is a 100% "ha ha, you can't see me so you can't kill me" button you would be wrong.

It took a while, but I finally figured out that getting drunk while hunting isn't a good idea on the internet either.

I've developed a personal rule involving a four beer limit and L3+ missions.

Yeah, I can understand that. I had one where I was just cruising along, shooting and looting, and then thought "Wait a second....isn't that red line my hull? SHIT!". I warped out with about 2% remaining. Had to leave all my T2 drones (I did get them back later).

While almost every time I play EVE I have an 'I'm a retard' moment (which is what makes this game so great, there's so many ways to shoot yourself in the foot and YOU KNOW IT), my best one .. to put it really simple:

A Badger Mark II.
A crap load of BPCs, BPOs, expensive minerals, etc etc. Prolly 500mil+ worth, and all corp property.
An 30-jump AFK autopilot route to the otherside of empire space.
An enterprising fellow in a large ship, camping my exit gate in Rancer.
...

Off I went...  At some point along the way I noticed that the destination was a 0.4 system...  hmm, too late to turn back.  Got to the gate, jumped into the .4, and there was a guy in an indy waiting on the other side, but I didn't think anything of it.  Aligned and warped to the station (no warp-to-zero back then), and lo and behold I get locked by this battleship which proceeds to one-shot me then warp away from the station's sentry gun fire.  And his industrial buddy who was waiting by the gate warps in and grabs the pyerite.

Turns out it was their buy order.

Well, being rather new to EVE, I vowed revenge (silently in my head) and then wasted the next couple of days waiting for the guy to log on, and then warping around the system in a Caracal trying to find him, and then finally figured out that I wasn't going to be able to one-shoot him and wouldn't like the security hit anyway, so I stopped, but it took 2 days.

5 minutes ago a buddy of mine just accidentally concorded themselves out of a t2/faction/rigged ishtar.  Since that was their only ship in empire they decided "fuck it" and pod-jumped back out to 0.0.

EVE really needs some sort of sudo implementation.  Or a breathalyzer.  Or something.

I finally did it after two years of avoiding it. 

I've lost barges in 0.4 sec, I've lost BCs to L3 missions, I've shield tanked an Amarr ship out of pure ignorance (in Uriq's youth), I've jumped into gatecamps when I could have scouted ahead, I've done 10 jumps for a courier mission without the cargo, but I have never, ever fallen for the oldest trick in Eve. 

Until last Thursday, when I bought an Amarr shuttle for 9,000,000 isk.   :ye_gods:

I've tucked that shuttle away with a special name to remind me of my stupidity.

In unrelated news, I see that I've sold a shuttle. :)

Just kidding -- I haven't tried that one. I prefer the whole "Buy orders set to 10% or even 1% of the market value" thing. :)

Yeah, my first reaction was to throw it right back on the market at 9mil, but I can't even bring myself to do that.  I would say 'lesson learned' but this was lesson number one when I started Eve.

I keep shop in a 0.4 system that just happens to be the gateway to a cul de sac of a few systems that are ripe for mining.  Its relatively close to high sec and, until the past couple of months, was quiet and allowed safe-ish low sec mining.  I've been friendly with the other locals, fellow miners, who are also actively guarding this slice of heaven that we found.  They run patrols and occasionally guard the gate in.  I hadn't been 'home' in a while - damned faction grinding - and so I wasn't sure what to expect when I went yesterday.

I had just bought a battlecruiser for ratting and needed to outfit it.  I keep all of my gear, looted or manufactured, on Iriq's account at this home system.  On a whim, I hold the BC back and jump Iriq in with her shuttle.  Gatecamp.  I'm sitting cloaked, reading bios and trying to figure out who these guys are.  They are not familiar, but I keep checking to see if any of them are the local friendlies.  Having a suspicious looking orange next to Uriq on the other side of the gate is making me nervous.

Before I can finish, cloak drops and I am instantly locked.  I get my warp in and am off to my home station.  As a side note, if you have time to lock a shuttle but cannot kill it with your alpha, you're doing it wrong.  Of course they start mocking me in local - asking me to bring the BC in.  In my station, I see a friendly who appears to be semi-afk.  I drop him a note mentioning the gate camp and go grab a beer.  By the time I get back, my neighbors have rained hellfire down on the gatecamp, leaving some very amusing dialogue in local.  BC jumps in, no problem.

Man, that felt good.

I'm a retard: when I'm getting ready to leave for work in the morning, I'll tie my shoelaces and brush my teeth whlie on AP through 0.0. I shoot for wtz on 75% of the gates by breaking AP frequently to reduce my exposure. I actually find that I've lost more ships through web surfing than shoelace-tying, though, because I think about what I'm reading while reading but I think about Eve while I tie my shoes.

You're a retard: one time I was APing through 0.0 in a shuttle and a Claw caught me at 15km off a gate. My hands were on my shoes and there was nothing I could do. The guy locked me and immediately opened fire. He probably blasted away my shield, but leaving his MWD on kept his transversal so high and his range so long that he completely failed to pop me before the AP slid me right into the gate and jumped.

Also, a year ago some carebear brought his Badger II to Y9 to buy some pyerite. This was when RIOT held Y9 without opposition. I happen to know it was pyerite, because it was my corpmate who sold it to him. The guy undocked with ten hostiles in local (admittedly docked). I do not know if he was surprised when my Rifter took him out on the other side of the first gate he jumped through, but he shouldn't have been.

Multiple freighter escort op from empire, down a 0.0 pipe (ie carebearing it up) - we're sitting on the empire gate looking VERY conspicuous as it was all very last minute, a tristan warps in, orbits us for two minutes then finally goes through the gate.

As we're approaching the first 0.0 gate our covops pilots report a mixed 10 ship gatecamp ahead, including the tristan who'd quite clearly spotted our 20-30 ships sitting on the high-sec gate but neglected to mention this to his friends.  Friends were also retards as they clearly had no intel -- they engaged a bait ship, we jumped in a dictor, bubble went up and then local spiked...  Lets just say it didn't end well for them.

Pricing up POS towers one night when I spot a contract that seems to good to be true; WTB faction tower, paying over the odds.  Never one to pass up a quick porfit when cash is running low I get moving before someone else jumps on on ... the time I'd realised it was a scam I was 2 jumps away from the sale, and left with a faction tower I could only unload at a loss.

Was a classic scam contract (adding to my retardedness) - they request a big ticket item, put an over-inflated price in the description and then take a few zeros off the actual payment price (say 250,000.00 instead of 250,000,000) and hope that everyone gets tunnel vision on an "easy" profit.

Who spends 1.2 billion on a cruise launcher anyway?

Someone who wants a big epeen? At a certain point money in the game becomes...worthless?

I have to say, what process of rationalisation is someone going through to decide that the launcher is a worthwhile purchase?  "Hmmm, which will add more to my alliance's fleet strength?  Shall I buy a dreadnought and bring that along?  Or increase my raven's DPS by 3% by adding one Estamel's launcher?"

People that buy those aren't usually in alliances, they are State War Academy dudes (lack of tax rate) that have run more missions than god and spend all their mission money on a ship that makes them mission even faster! In the end they will accumulate an insane amount of loot just on the ship (unless TRI or others catch em slippin) and if they really needed cash they can pawn off an estamel launcher.

But ya, I have been slowly faction fitting one of my megathrons and Im now at the point where I go....jesus...how many Thoraxes could I get blown up for just this one ship?

Now we just patiently wait for the day where we see a post from Slayerik - "DAMNIT, I was playing EvE drunk off my ass last night and suicide ganked someone using my faction fitted Mega instead of a throw away ship!

Pretty much.  All t2 rigs are ridiculously high cost because of the rarity of t2 salvage.

Just had an 'Im a retard moment' last night.

I am looking through skills to train as im scanning ships. I look at the survey skill (which I had at level 0). Ummmmm...Ive basically thrown away a ton of kills because I havent trained this to at least 3. I thought it was a carebear skill that I might need later as a pre-req to something, or for like scan probes or something. Turns out, I could have shaved almost a second off each scan (which can be the difference between rich and poor).

A local 1-man griefer corp wardecced our empire mission/industrialist corp. He was playing docking games at our HQ which made it difficult on us. One guy in my corp was eventually able to bait him off the station and I flew in a Blackbird (jamming e-war ship) and hit him with 2 racial jammers. I flew in from our POS and landed about 30km from the fight thinking I'd be safe there since he was using blasters. What I didn't realize was 30 km out coming from our POS put me right on top of the station. He turned and made a beeline for the station which meant he was coming straight at me. I thought I'd be safe since I was jamming the crap out of him. Next thing I know my shields melt and my armor starts to disappear. Luckily I was already aligned and almost at top speed so I was able to warp out without dying. I couldn't figure out how that guy could hit me since I had him jammed. I set up my Blackbird a week ago since I knew he Gallente. Turns out I went braindead while fitting and put several Caldari racial jammers on my ship... Oops.

Watch for Gallente guys with sentry drones as well. They can bring some pain.

What's the difference between normal combat drones and sentry drones?

Sentry drones dont move. T2 sentries can fuck your world up.

They can be used at up to about 90km, and some are closer range/higher damage.

My sentry drone 101 is rather fuzzy -- as they don't move, do sentries ignore the whole "your maximum drone control range is XZY" shenanigans that drove me nuts while using heavies?  Or would you need to be setup to target 90km and control drones that far out?

I think if you had your sentries out and someone aggroed you at 90km, they will shoot them. You could not tell them to shoot 90km since you wouldnt have a lock though. None of this is for sure though, anyone help here?

I'd have to test that, but I think drone aggro is limited by drone range. Else your little combat drones would merrily head out and engage targets shooting you from 90k, wouldn't they ?

Even if aggroed drones will stop shooting if the target leaves drone control range.  This is a great tactic in inties: someone sets drones on you, so you kite them out of control range then burn back.  The drones then go dead in the water once the leave control range, and your target has to abandon them and launch more.

Disclaimer: this worked when I was flying inties, but recently I've been in other stuff, so I don't know if the changes to drones in Trinity have altered this behaviour.

Yeah, that makes sense...I was just thinking of the auto aggresion of drones.

I'm pretty sure they don't do that anymore, they keep attacking the target and when it's gone they return to the ship. At least thats how it works on npc's, with my 45km drone control range and sniper setup I run into this rather often.

Pretty sure that drones keep attacking unless they die or their target does. I've certainly sicced drones on something at the limit of my range and then flown off to go somewhere else out of control range while they merrily carve the target up. As long as you stay on grid, they don't go inert.

That's a shame: that was a really nice trick, and one of the few ways to mess up stuff like vexors in an inty.

So I log into the highsec system I logged off in last night, near our wardec targets.  I get told I'm in squad one, with who we shall call Mr A Nonymous as FC.  I eventually get him to realise where I am: Yvelet.  He brings the fleet to the next system, Yveve (lowsec).  I warp to the gate.  All is well.  He then says he's jumped into Elore (even lower sec) and is waiting on the Yveve gate.  I inform him he is two jumps away (FCs should always have maps open).  He says to jump into the system and warp to him on the Elore gate.  I do this, because i am still labouring under the delusion that he knows what the fuck he is doing.

I am in warp when he says "right sorry Endie we're going to have to move", and promptly fucks off with the fleet.  I am left facing Notoreity, a pirate corp.  In a scorpion.  I wait til they aggress then jump, but they have more mates on the far side.  The FC says "right, we're on our way", and I tell him not to be stupid and lose a fleet trying to save a Scorpion he's already killed.  I die.  He keeps saying "sorry i'm not doing very well here."

I then discover that stupid idiot was trying to get the fleet into my system.  I could just have stayed where I was.  He didn't know he'd reached the highsec gate.  I could chew a brick, I'm so pissed off.  :mob:

To be fair, when the rest of Aegis came by earlier they tore Notoreity a new one, killing 3 battleships, 2 battlecruisers and a cruiser for the loss of two drakes.  I should have ignored the mad orders and just sat tight.

I had an "oh yeah, aggression timer" moment today as I undocked from a station in a brand new Vexor (after having just been PVPed by that command ship we took on with roughly four frigates and a cruiser).  Oh yeah, and I had forgotten to insure it in my rush to refit it.  Goodbye, 7 million or so!

My mistake: I misread the KB (http://aegismilitia.phpnet.us/?a=kill_related&kll_id=1277).  We lost a manticore, blackbird and thorax for 3 battleships, 3 battlecruisers and a cruiser.  Apparently the numbers weren't quite as skewed as they look there, as only three of the NOTR guys got on killmails, but some more than the drake did get away.  I'm just annoyed at the idiot squad commander feeding them my scorp to make up for their losses a little :(

 There was a fucked up regarding the early organisation of the fleet.
 In the very beginning we had the latvians in one gang, people at our FOB in an other one, and people in solitude in a last one.
 Latvians and FOB people merged,( Gang A) but everybody stayed on the same channel on vent with the people already in solitude. ( gang B )
 Gang A was to merge with gang B near Arasare as the system was already full of Friends ( Ekchuah ).

This one is partly the UI's fault but I'll take the blame anyway. Everyone who's on when I am probably knows how much trouble I had with the bigger missions that featured a lot of agro ships. When I did the tutorial it said to use the journal-> mission sheet to find your way to the mission. Later, iirc, it mentioned the right click on space method for going the same place. I've always used the journal method because it works for several zones away as well as to jump locally. What I hadn't noticed until yesterday is that right clicking space gives you a "Jump to within xkm" menu item which is totally non-existant in the journal menu. So I was always jumping to 0 to get back to those missions. I did the Blockade Runners today with no problems at all jumping in at 100km and kiting the damn ships while me and my drones killed the fast ones.

My big question is, how do you get a job as a programmer being that bad? Either they throw a different dev on the ui every time they add something, who's unfamiliar with the code, or the ui programmer has down's syndrome I guess.

To be fair, some missions are set up specifically to allow you to do that, but most (deadspace ones) will always see you turn up at the same place.

Of course, you can swap setups or even ships to kite the enemy away from the warpin then come back fitted for damage, if you need to,

The warp to <distance> is bugged as you need to initiate the warp for the mission to spawn thus you always warp to the beacon. You have to stop ship and re-initiate your chosen warp-in distance. At lest that's my experience.

I was under the impression that you always had to "warp to 0" the first time.  regardless of what you selected, you ALWAYS warped in at zero on your first approach.  You could then immediately warp out, and warp back in to whatever selected distance you desired.

So here I am, happily grinding away level 3 missions for the glory of the Amarr Navy, when I get a missions that lands me in a mission belt full of Omber. "Hmm" says I, "tis a grand opportunity to pad me space wallet with some space minerals". So I finish the mission, then return in my battlecruiser refitted for defacing asteroids instead of ships for a spot of jetcan mining.

A little while later, my savvy business sense (read: my short attention span) kicks in and I do some quick calculations... damn, I'd be getting a lot more money if I just did missions than if I spent hours mining out this Omber belt. So I pack up, get my indy and haul my loot in the form of 10.5k units of Omber off to the station. I dock, turn in the mission, and unload and refine the Omber. Mmmm sweet sweet Isogen. Then, just as I move my mouse over it to check on market prices, my Eve-mail inbox starts blinking at me. What's this? I open the mail and start reading: "Hi, I am Joe Missiongiver, and I am in need of your services for a very special mission. I need you to bring me 10k units of Omber."

So now, because I just turned in the mission less than a minute beforehand, the Omber belt has disappeared. Which leaves me flying 11 jumps AWAY from the mission agent to buy a buttload of Omber to ship to him.  :tantrum:

Ive gotten that storyline mission before nowhere, too.  Had to by ALL the ore, though.  That hurt the wallet.

I got one mission to bring 2.5 million units of Tri to a station in 0.2 space.  I would have been hauling for two days!  Not to mention that it would cost me ~7 mil to fill the order.

I canceled it and got it again on the next ask.  After that I moved to 0.0, I figured it was a message from the AI.   :drill:

On most of the "bring X amount of minerals to Y" storyline missions you will find that enterprising carebears have already provided you a nice stockpile to buy at the station in question.  You might only make a small amount (or maybe even lose a little money) by just buying them and finishing the mission, but you get the mission done quickly and gain the standings.

Tested this last night on Zazzmatazz missions and it seemed to work.  I chose "warp to 0", then killed the warp as soon as the mission notification window popped up.  I was then able to warp to 50, 70, and 100 (tried it with 3 different instances because while variety may be the spice of life lutefisk is apparently the spice of Iceland).

I just woke up a little while ago and am a little bleary-eyed because I stayed up pretty damn late playing the game yesterday.  So the first thing I do when I log in is attempt to swap into my Dominix and instead of hitting Make Active, I apparently clicked on Trash It.  Confirmation dialog boxes barely register in my mind anymore, so before I knew it my Domi was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.

What are the chances CCP will reimburse me with cash or return the ship?

Prepping for our op today, I moved my ship plus a cargo hold full of pretty high cost (for my skill level of course--we're not talking T2 stuff here) refit mods to a staging platform. I basically bought double of everything, and ferried the modules to the staging area so I'd be ready to go if I died.

I have the honor of being scout (sacrifice to the blood gods), which is awesome (had a blast!), make it through about 5 systems with no problem.

Not quite understanding where we are or what the engagement rules are, I come across a warp bubble plus 4 "neutrals", and after reporting them on vent, chill for 30 seconds or so waiting for the fleet to warp in so I can go scout the next system. Of course, while WE are Not Red Don't Shoot, we're in enemy territory, so they are Not Blue Shoot It, and were toying with me waiting for more to show up.

I die of course, and after getting podded, open up my Assets display so I can autopilot back to my depot...hrm...why can't I find the depot with all my extra mods I bought?

About 45 seconds later it hit me--I never unloaded them from my cargo hold, so they dropped with my wreck. Chalk one up to being TOO prepared I guess, without the situational awareness needed to go with it!

Decimal points matter. I discovered this after accidentally placing  a buy order for 10 million pyerite at 425 isk each instead of 4.25.

Someone was decent enough to convo me about it and warn me what had happened but not until I'd paid out 2 billion isk for vastly overpriced pyerite. I was lucky it happened in a quiet station in Nakugard.

Ouch! I've set the wrong price a few times as well, but nothing as bad as that. Once, I forgot to add a couple of zeroes to the price of Invulnerability Fhield IIs I was unloading in Dodixie. I knew I had done a mistake as I pressed the button, but all the buy orders for Invulnerability Fields IIs in Dodixie was filled that day. Luckily, it wasn't too many. 50-100 or so I think.

I accidentally placed a buy order for a few Incursus at 15,000.  Couldn't figure out for the life of me why I hadn't gotten any after a few days.

I accidentally keep placing buy orders for cargo scanners at like 6.5k, until some bastard accidentally places a buy order for 1 isk more and I have to run back to jita to accidentally modify it.

Der.  They restored my Domi (hooray), but they did it near Murini where I was at the time, instead of in Prometheia.  So now I need to try and sneak it down to 0.0 when no one's gate-camping.

If you spot me around at the time then just ask: I usually have an alpha-clone scout that I can use to get you down there safely.  Not that gatecamps are common, anyway.  And just ask in TheCitadel about the status of the nearest pipe (Kari, Dital or Misaba) and you'll find out pretty quickly what's up where.

So, I finally can fly a battlecruiser.  I manage to bring my shiny new Drake down to Provi in one piece and am enjoying the fact that I can actually deal with the bigger rats in a pretty manageable way, my security status is ticking upward, etc, etc.  I notice that the thing is damn slow to align (wow 16s is an eternity).  Sadly a while later I accidentally warp in at 0 (far too close to the asteroids for comfort) and instead of warping back out and coming back in at 50K or so where I have room to work, I kick on the MWD and try to swing out around the rats.

Shortly after, they start attacking, I get hung up in asteroids with the ship bouncing back and forth but not turning and while trying to get it righted so I can warp the hell out the way I should have in the first place, I get destroyed.

Highly embarrassing.  Thankfully it was insured, and the bounties on the rats helped a bit toward the insurance, so the overall loss was not horrible financially.  As I'm a packrat, I had actually brought down spares of all the fittings and I could buy a replacement boat for not too much of a premium over what I'd pay in empire (worth it not to have to go all the way out and back again).  Lesson learned.

I would post to the killboard if there was a way to correctly credit the asteroids for the kill.

Also, I now observe a moment of silence for the 5 drones that died a horrible death in my drone bay.

Does everyone know that you only need to tank EM (primarily) and thermal (about a third of the damage) when ratting in Provi?  Sansha rats almost entirely focus their damage like that, so they are really easy to tank.  If you go for an omni tank and are in a Caldari ship in particular they're a pain, but focussing your resists should make tanking them easy.

And remember to salvage: the melted capacitors that they drop - particularly the battlecruisers and battleships - are often worth more than the bounties: just dump the metal scraps which take up tons of space for a few IS in value.  The T2 salvage from True Sansha spawns can be worth even more.

So there I was, in a shuttle, scouting out a 0.4 system to see if this possible trade route was a trap or not.  Cause the deal was nice, some player buying POS fuel at 2x the cost, in large quantity.  Would have made my day, basically. 

So I go in, and sure enough, someone's camping the destination station, they lock me but I dock.  So I'm sitting there for half an hour trying to figure out, first, where I can get the money to invest in this thing, and second how I can deliver the goods without being blown up.   Anyway, after half an hour of thinking, basically it was impossible; it was a trap, I didn't have the money, and I couldn't pull a pre- or post- downtime haul due to the fact that I do have a job I have to go to.

So I undock, get locked, warp away, and I'm dejectedly making my way back to my base when, looking at the deal again, notice that the "very nice buy order" was in fact a sell order, the guy was just trying to sell overpriced, he wasn't buying (nobody else was buying at anywhere close to the sell price).  I basically looked at the wrong pane in the market window, for half an hour.

Doh.

Anyways, I furiously claw at my web key, and it goes off...right when he gets into jump range.  Poof hes gone, and I've got a full 20 seconds to sit there and feel like a dumbass.

Of course, those 20 seconds felt glorious once I did a quick contract search and realized that I sacrificed my ship -- unsuccessfully -- for at BEST a 50/50 shot at 40mil  :ye_gods:

I once bought a skill that was supposed to cost around 30k isk for 30m isk - a hard lesson in practical idiocy.

So I ganked a guy carrying a Snake Epsilon last night, total haul, 560+ Mil, hooray me.

I hop in a stiletto and start heading to Jita to sell it, and when I hit a 1.0 system it hits me, I'm at -2.3 sec status.

There is nothing in the world more frightening than carrying a 1/2 a bil in cargo in a paper thin ship and seeing "You're a criminal, prepare to be exploded!"

Fortunately, stilettos are fast enough I was able to make it into Jita unscathed and loot in hand, which leads me to part 2....

I'm trying to avoid paying the sales tax, so am hollering in local that it's for sale, I get a bite, he opens a trade window and puts in 560,000,000, SCORE.

I put in the implant, hit accept, the little check mark shows up.  Then the price changes to 560,000, and the window closes.  Wallet flashes, I'm 560,000 richer, my implant is gone, so much for avoiding the tax.

I petitioned it, but I'm expecting a "lol, noob" reply from CCP.

So pay that sales tax happily folks, its there for a reason, and if you DO use the trade window, wait a random interval of time after money/items are all inside before hitting accept, the only thing I can figure is that he changed the price and it was updated on the server already when I hit accept, but due to the wonderful Jita lag it hadn't updated MY client with the real price yet (hooray!)

That's how CCP plays games with you, Nerf.  When they return things to you as a result of a petition, they don't restore it in the original location.  They move it to you.  When my Domi was restored, it was returned deep in hi-sec and I had to run it down to 0.0.  Scared the hell out of me.

I'm a retard.  I lost my T2-fitted battlecruiser last night.  I was scouting ahead, and stopped briefly to see who all the reds were jumping in system behind me. 

No, bad bad bad no.  Bad.  Reds mean go, not stay and see who is about to blow you up. 

Unless you're cloaked. One reason I have a Helios setup down there. (It's getting moved somewhere closer).

I'm happiest being the eyes and letting someone else be the teeth and claws.

Here's a good one: enemy pilot loses his Vagabond.  Runs away in his pod.  Docks in Paxtonia and buys a Vagabond from the people who just killed him.

So I'm heading to the meet up for a fleet in my Manticore (Caldari stealth bomber) and on the route I jump into a gate camp with bubble and all.  I figured I can probably sneak out so after a quick look around I double click to a spot that will align me and take me pretty quickly out of the bubble (the stealth bomber goes just as fast if not faster cloaked) and almost immediately hit my cloak.  I start to turn and align but my cloak doesn't appear to engage right away.  So I panic and hit the button again to be sure.

I'm sure most of you vets can guess what happened next...

Almost immediatly after, the loading lag catches up, and I begin to cloak completely un-targeted for a safe getaway.  Followed by uncloaking myself right after from the second time I hit the button and not being able to cloak again until it cycles (10 seconds or something).  Bye bye Manticore and thanks goodness I had hopped into a jump clone.  Lesson learned.  :uhrr:

Ouch.

The first thing I did with my stealth bomber was to practice running through gates.  I got the hang of it and, sure enough, ran into a gate camp later the same day and was able to evade it easily. 

Of course, none of this matters since I later decided that uncloaking during a fleet battle while inside of 100km was a good idea.  Boom.  Tip of the day: don't fly your stealth bomber until you can mount cruise missiles on it and stay the hell away.

That's your highest skill total, adding up all the points from I, II, III, IIII, and IV then subtracting it from the skill. It's entirely possible that you lost 50% of BS V.

So, after a lengthy discussion about DPS and ratting with Epid3mic, he convinced me that putting some guns on my Dominix, which would have raised my DPS by 20%, was a good idea.  So, I spent some 2 hours going to Empire in a hauler, getting some ammo, hunting down some large hybrid rails, afterburner, mag stabilizers, etc., hauling it all back, and putting it in containers nice. 

Then I go to try to fit the guns, and...  "sorry, you need Gunnery 5 and Large Hybrids 1 to install these weapons".

Noob char, forgot I didn't have the skills yet.

Guess I have to wait another week for Gunnery 5 and then I have to go pick up a Large Hybrids skillbook.

Helm, you just made me cry for you.

Ajax, I fit four large guns on my Domi and life has never been the same since.  It's a huge difference!

Hows the DPS on large Blasters compared to large rails ?

It's 20% (of the gun DPS) better.  My thing is, I'm doing 300 DPS with the drones, and I'd be doing between 100 DPS (with rails) and 120 DPS (with blasters) in addition to that, due to minimal gun skills, so it would be a 5% improvement for me.  Since my cap skills are also meh, I'd rather not have the MWD completely mess up my tank duration, so I'll stick with rails for now.

It can be.  Someone might say that the difference between 200DPS and 240DPS is not huge, but if the peak regen on your target is 160DPS then suddenly you just doubled the rate at which you are beating that.

Oh, I believe it, and I am going to put guns on it.  The "I'm a retard" part was in me taking like 3 hours to go to empire, buy the guns and a shitload of ammo, haul it, then discover I coudn't install for another week.

Drone DPS is ok, now, definitely breaking the tank of the NPC's.  Hell, I killed a True Sansha BS and didn't even realize it until 20 min later when I noticed a 6 mil bounty in the log and started wondering why it was so big.  Then I looked in the loot pile and discovered I'd been shafted, only a kinetic armor hardener dropped.

The extra DPS is also nice because it helps maintain cap stability.  If you can kill the guy before you run out, that is.

Ugh...  I've been avoiding this thread ever since its birth. Sure, running around with 300mil ISK worth of T2 stuff in your Iteron Mark I was as brilliant as fighting forest fires in a scubadiving suit. Newbies with too much ISK do that. Doing L4 missions when all you really have is a few levels in the skill "Battleships" while not considering these are high effective quality missions roughly equals something along the lines of trying to see how much ketchup you have to rub on yourself before the lions in the savanna start showing interest in you. While I know EVE creates some wonderful lossmails (lolmails) to allow the creation for its own brand of Darwin Awards it still surprises me how intelligent people such as me and you act like we just got out of college with our phone-booth repairer degrees.

This thread is educational, depressingly educational at times. Yet I ignored everything I've had the pleasure of smirking at in this thread. It happened in a system called Aphend, strangely enough. I figured I'd probe down some abandoned T2 drones in a mission hub as practice without worrying much about money wasted on probes. (hi gais, this is gets' common sense talkin in brackets, just so u know). I got to my third location when I noticed some T1 Hammerheads among the T2 ones I had just scooped up. Dammit! What rotten luck. Guess I should pop these so they don't show up on the scan. (eh, srsly, dude) But I don't have any guns on my fully T2 fitted Helios (phew!) I know! I'll use the drone I have in my drone bay (aaw maaan).

Of course I didn't have the warning message on. I've been playing for 6 months now. What, you don't believe me? Well, I don't either =/

Was just hauling 7 BPOs from empire to our base of operations through low sec in a shuttle. I've hauled shit like this dozens of times and never had any problems. Sure there have been gate camps but I just blast through them and nothing can lock me.

Everything goes like normal, I hit 'warp to 0', sit tight and start hammering 'jump' immediately when I am about to drop from warp. Twenty jumps behind me, only eleven or so to go. I warp as normal. When I'm exiting the warp I notice two blinking red guys in battleships. "Ok, small gate camp. They have no change in hell locking to me." I start hammering my 'jump' button. I exit warp and instantly my shuttle explodes and my pod with it. I wake up 43 jumps away.

I check the killmail and apparently I landed on a Rokh with dread guristas large graviton smartbombs. To add to the insult, 3 out of 7 BPOs weren't destroyed so someone got lucky. Fuck! Never hauling in a shuttle again.

Those smartbombs can insta-pop frigates, btw.  Know first hand, from one of our first frigate ops.

I almost lost a covops doing the same thing, on the far side of the gate (ie warping away).  What saved me was that I actually had some basic tank on the buzzard, just in case.  I warped off with 25% or so structure.

The weird thing was, it was in highsec, in a 0.5 sec system.  The guy's sec status would have been hammered, and it's totally speculative since he'd no chance to scan me as I warp around, cloaked.

On my mission runner I set a 30 point jump over to Gallente space from Caldari space. I then hit autopilot and went AFK. Naturally this course goes through lowsec but I didn't think of that at the time because the first time I played they still put you through highsec by default and warned you if you went through lowsec. As expected I get blown up and podded. Fortunately I was only in an insured caracel with 2k standard missiles and T1 fittings so it getting blown up wasn't a big deal. I DID have about 50mil worth of attribute implants stuck in his head but fortunately I'm ending his training in 4 (5 now) days as he has the skills he needs and I'd rather work on another alt. So all in all I didn't lose much of anything, but it was really stupid.

That's not really stupid. Once in a while EVE loses your autopilot settings and it defaults back to allowing travel through low sec. It's just one of the long standing bugs they're so famous for ignoring.

Okay I have a fully legit retard story now. I'm on my PVP character and get podded so I go to upgrade my clone. He has 6mil SP so I decide to buy the one that holds 7mil. Only I was looking at the wrong goddamn column so the clone actually cost 7mil. :awesome_for_real:

Well, just don't get podded for another 50mil SPs and it's not wasted money or anything!

I scrammed a hurricane in my stiletto outside a station today, thinking he'll probably dock but what the hell. After asking for backup on ventrilo for two minutes I realise my mike isn't plugged in. I get under my desk to plug it in, look up and see my stiletto stuck on a station wall getting one shotted :ye_gods:

Well, I finally got a real one:

--ratting away trying to build up a war chest, was tabbed out briefly to answer a work email. Came back to an ishtar and a vagabond on me, and I'm caught smack dab in the middle of two asteroids that I can't get out of.

Pretty expensive loss of my ratting BS (megathron), so going to be a bit of a road to get back to speed :( Fortunately it was insured, but the modules were still decently expensive for my current isk.

Lessons learned:

--make SURE the damned KoS page is trusted. I had clicked off the annoying warning a few days ago, and thought it was marked as trusted, so couldn't get the page to load.
--don't tab out, even though it's how I get to rat during the day.
--whatever you do, don't let yourself chase down a rat into the middle of asteroids if you're a blaster bs--just not smart ;) Would have aligned and gotten out I think had I not been stuck and behind the surprise curve.

I never use the KOS Checker. In-game browser is clunky, giving the enemy just enough time to scan where I am or start warping to me. It's also manually updated and who knows when the guys who do ever get around to verifiying any of the entries. You safespot whenever anything suspicious enters the system, especially off the beaten path.

I know the tone of this reply is getting old, but repetition is the mother of learning, I guess. But since you had to tab out and didn't warp to safety just before the baddies came it's all just very bad luck, which occasionally happends to all of us (or more often to Samson). I hope that emphasis on your loss helps avoid future ones.

I lost a Battleship because I forgot to do one click on the Armor Repairer. Meh.

Trying out my new gun skills + named repper in the belts.  I do a lot better against 2 BS rats now.   But not well enough.

I had one down to structure.  Unfortunately, he's starting to hit my structure.  I thought for sure that if I can pop him, my repper will catch up and it will be easy street.  Then I'll go afk inside the POS while structure repping.

Except I'm getting to half structure and a bit nervous.  So I hit warp.  Of course, the pos is right behind me and there's nothing to align to in front.  Turn... turn you tub!!

I get all the way around and basically have no structure left.  Then my screen freezes.

And freezes.

I hear the "new email" sound.  That CAN'T be good.

Then... I'm in warp!  I look at structure and armor, I have a sliver left.  Woo hoo!

Then... rubber band.  Back in the belts.  Popped.  I guess my client wasn't quite sure whether I made it or not until it resynched with the server.

Fortunately, this time I was insured for the whole amount; I even made a million because I bought the replacement below what the insurance payout was.  Didn't cover the modules, but that's the dumbass tax.

Well, the worst part is that they --are-- kos, but showed as neutral in /local. We had Sylph members wandering through literally all day, about every 15 minutes or so, so running to a safe spot every time local++ wasn't an efficient option.

Of course, losing 260m vs gaining the 20m I did ratting isn't particularly efficient either, so I'm going to have to re-think that tactic ;)

Eve's wonderful Overview Settings implementation does not seem to allow for different appearance settings for different tabs. It looks like twiddles made during wardec fights may have caused them to not show blue, or in fact we don't have Sylph marked as friendly/blue...I'm not sure which.


Couple of T1 rigs, bunch of salvage, some general loot, and some pretty high priced guns added up quickly :(

Part of the problem was the sheer volume of loot you were carrying.  You ought to dump it off every couple of belts or so to hedge against damned neutrals shooting at you.

Also, I remember hearing about that corp going Rogue in Citadel a day or two beforehand.  Oops.

This isn't quite retarded but I just moved my mission runner into Motsu to see if the lag was as bad as everybody says it is, and if not, whether the market and quality was worth it. Since I still can't log him in 1.5 hours after downtime (with a skill ending as of 30 minutes ago) I'd say it's probably not worth the move.

Welp, I finally did it.  I got myself concorded n in embarrassing manner as well.

I was on a pew pew op lead by wildcard for.....  forever.  Hours upon hours of chasing reds.  Shooting them with no gameplan n watching them get away time after time.  About 6 hours in, I'd just about totally checked out.  Our last target was a nano gang we'd followed into hed. We sat on a gate for about 20min scanning for cruisers n titans(wildcards orders.)  The # of reds in local spiked n we got the order to run.  We all jump into the next system.

As soon as I load the next grid, I spot two reds within 15km on my pvp overview!  Target lock! Launch drones! Tracking disrupters to maximum!  Attack, drones! Attack!  All of a sudden I hear 3 people in vent go, "who the fuck aggressed?!?"  What?  Omg, I'm 'sploding....  BOOM!!~  after 7 hours in 0.0.  We finally hopped into high sec, n I fucking deaded myself.....

"Welp, that's my cue to go to sleep" I hear across the board.  Everyone autopilots back home, in their ships... cept me.  My fully fitted arbi had been vaporized.  Although, I did find an empty gallente frig along the way....  o_O??  Jacked it, n went on my merry way home.

The pocket has you warp in out of drone range, web you from a bunch of towers, and start neuting you from another bunch of towers.

All the towers are too far away to sic my drones, so I'm switching to long range ammo to try to take out some statis towers. Eventually I get in range, and at about the same time the cap runs dry, I send the Ogres off to do their thing, but they aren't fast about flying anywhere, and I got lazy and figured a small fucking drone would never be able to eat through amour and structure, even without my hardeners or tank......

How far is "too far"? I'm kind of surprised they can neut you from outside your drone range -- in a Domi, you should be able to send drones 60 to 85k.

I actually think I've done that mission. I dropped Wardens and ate the towers.

One short trip to Jita later, a very similar Dominix melted the towers straight away using sentry drones as you suggest.

But I don't have EW drone interfacing yet, and hadn't fitted a link extender thing - so my range is 40k, towers were at 50k, and 10k is a long way at 10 metres per second.  :oh_i_see:

PvE Domi without a Drone Link Augmenter is ... bizarre. What were you fitting instead?

Even without EW drone interfacing, Drone Navigation (or is scout drone operation?) should extend your range past 40k.

Still, any PvE Domi should have a drone link augmentor. "Which drones to use" is sort of iffy. I use Wardens on anything between 25k and 70k, unless they're clustered together (say, chasing me as I run in the opposite direction) in which case I use size appropriate ones.

Mediums I'll happily send out to 20k, and if I'm chasing anything smaller than a battlecruiser I'll think nothing of sending lights out to 40k or beyond. Mostly I use Wardens for distant targets because I'm shooting BCs and BS's at range, and mediums take too long to kill them.

I use Ogre IIs on everything except very fast stuff at close range (Spider Drones, inties etc). At long range I can pop even AFs with my guns (Navy 350mm Rails) and with decent skills heavy drones can hit small stuff as long as the radial isn't too extreme. Hammerhead IIs will instapop anything that's too fast for the Ogres to catch. Sentries are nice for a static camp but if you are mobile they can cramp your style a bit.

I engage at 130km, get full aggro and send the drones off to kill anything that still alive at 80km in. Depending on the mission I can often get full stage aggro and not take any damage at all due to killing everything before it gets to effective weapons range.

bearing in mind that a drone tracking computer will give you a boost to your sentries' optimal range, making bouncers or even curators useful at 50-75km as well for sniping.

I'm using this to mission grind on level3s atm, and it has been very rare that any bad guys are outside of the 40k range for more than a minute or so at warp in.

If I were doing level 4s or ratting with drones and needed to use range tanking maybe things would be different, but as it stands I feel I get more time saved filling the highs with guns, tractors, and salvagers.

More drone range is on the vague list of things to train at some point, but this is the first time lack of control range ever caused a problem tbh.

So. I hear about the 24 hour downtime for EA deployment. Being the dumb Texan that I am, I decide to train a 2 hour skill really quick, then get a 24+ hour one going during the downtime.

If you're thinking this sounds like a similar story earlier in this topic, you're right. I forgot to account for EVEtime NOT being the same as Texas time. By my calculations my skill finished training less than ten minutes after the downtime started.

No drones in bay and the only thing with a point on him was a frigate - he deserved to die.

If he died with his drones undocked they won't show on a killmail and also wouldn't show who had point and who didn't, I'd imagine nearly all the ships had a point on him in the end.

So a real-life friend of mine started playing EvE a few months ago after I showed him the game.  I tried to push him to us but I just couldn't convince him to get out of empire.  He is so far much more into industry/trading and joined up with a industrial corp.  So I dropped him a bunch of isk to get started and gave him tips whenever he seemed to need em.  My last chat with him last week or so he had a lot of complaints about his corp and of course I started spewing to him all the upsides of the corp I'm running in but in the end he stayed where he is.

Then yesterday I looked him up on the Battleclinic killboard...he had one loss of a frigate and the fitting was horrifying to say the least.  I'm talking 2 missile launcher, 1 arty, 2 autocannons, shield booster, armor repairer, warp stab.  So I'm thinking "WTF is this corp teaching this poor guy."

I got my carrier blown up XD  By Ushra Khan of all people.

They appeared in system when the tower had a few minutes left, so I cloaked, then ctrl-Qed to log-offski.  Then I logged back in, cloaked at a safe and waited to see if they would return.  This was dumb.  They did return, and I logged off, but i will still have been aggroed from the minute when they were shooting at me before.  So I died.  Doh.  I should have stayed logged in and cloaked at my very good safespot.  Or I should not have logged in at all: if it had been my own tower I wouldn't have vOv.

I'm not, I have to say, that worked up about it: I'm only out by about 350 million since I thought I would lose it in the next couple of weeks and insured it anyway. The most annoying thing is that I'll have to post it to the alliiance killboard, which on top of our less than stellar ops attendance so far doesn't make us look good.  This was the very last load after six days of constant bloody hauling though - 90 cynos with a full load for half of them -  and pretty much tops off the shittiest week of Eve evah  :ye_gods:

So I was making soup today while ganking and during the stirring I decided to jump over one system to try a different place for the ganking and walk straight into a warpilot in a HIC who scram,s webs and takes down my gank brutix, all the while my soup is boiling over heh. He manages to even pod me and my 150 mil worth of implants  :ye_gods:

So I jump in a Domi fit it up real nice with 3x trimarks and decide to go after him I locate him 10 jumps over in domain start heading towards and jump into a 0.9 system forgetting my sec status is -2.6. I see the criminal flag notice and try and burn towards the gate before Concord arrive, but they never do instead the local faction police immediately lock me, jam, scram, web and neut me concord never turned up I've not seen this before ho hum at least it was insured.

Years ago, when I first took up Eve, I raced towards battleships and when finally was able to fly them I had accumulated enough standing to run level 4 missions. I couldn't use large guns at the time so I resorted to flying a maelstrom equipped with medium artillery. I would check out the l4 agent in the station I was doing l3's in and if he offered a drone mission I ran it in my medium arty maelstrom without too much trouble (but quite a lot of warping in/out). Easy money.

One day I was doing one of these drone l4 missions when my ship got inexplicably stuck in space near a large space structure. I could rotate all I want but my ship just wouldn't move. The waves of drones easily broke my tank and both the pride of my fleet and a sizeable portion of my assets became space dust. The endless grinding of missions combined with the loss of my biggest ship took my eve fatigue to a level where I unsubscribed not much later.

Fast forward a year and many wild adventures in the lands of Azeroth.

I resubscribe, avoid doing too much pve, have a rather good time and one day decide to do a drone mission. Kablamo, before I realise its the mission that got me killed the first time, I get stuck at the exact same structure. Laugh, cry or facepalm - my maelstrom gets popped before I can decide.

I shrug it off, decide to avoid the mission and continue to mess around.

Then today, I read the patch notes (http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/patchnotes.asp?patchlogID=168):

(Also, drone missions suck, nos doesn't work on NPCs, and you should fit at least one SBA instead of 4 hardeners.. in fact, 2 SBA II if you can use them is better than any third hardener of any type - plus, they use no cap)

I petitioned it both times. I can't remember if they returned my ship the first time but I don't think so, the second time around I got the stock 'it didn't show in our logs' answer despite me stating it was the second time that had happened and that they surely should have plenty of petitions from people experiencing the same thing.

A friend at work just told me a little story about how someone was sitting in a high-sec plex with a smartbomb fitted Golem as my firends corpmate comes into the pocket. The corpmate see an opportunity to get free loot and speeds into smartbomb range

Concord does the work and not does this high-sec dweller just lose a very expensive ship, he gets a security hit pushing him below -3 with the new rules

So I'm fitting out my alt in Venal to run salvage and loot for me.  I have an open space in mids that I would probably throw another Cap Recharger in, but I think to myself "I've got a MWD, why not just throw in a warp disrupter, never know what will happen."  So I grab one and try to throw it on only to be met by a message informing me I do not have the skills to use that item.  Almost 6m SP and I don't have Propulsion Jamming 1.  Of course since I'm in Venal that isn't something I can just grab off the market quick either.  :uhrr:

So a bunch of noobs in T1 cruisers came down to Q-T this morning I was taking intel on them and passing it on via the channels, but noone was bothered reading them cause nobody took notice til I typed in Q-T local "reds incoming". So we get a 8 man gang started with a couple of blackbirds me in an ewar arbi, inties and a Myrmidon flown by the FC. He orders us to warp to the gate at our optimals which is 50km for me and about same for the blackbirds . Upon arrival he asks over vent what have they got? Just as I'm copying and pasting my earlier intel he says fuck it I'm jumping in to have a look. Then he's like they are all here and lists out the ships that I've just pasted in Fleet chat, next order is "everyone jump in lets take him here" leaving us all scratching our heads, why aren't you coming I'm about to go down?? Fcs buddy is asking why we are all warping to belts?

So, when we were about to join Goons I thought I would rat a bit in Venal.  So I bought a Typhoon but I never got around to actually assembling it.  When I left, I put it on the market for 72 mil but no one bought it.

Tonight I decided to go out there and retrieve it.  Plan: fly there in a shuttle.  If I hit a gatecamp, I lose a clone, no biggie.  If I don't, what's the likelihood of finding one on the way back at 3am Eastern US time?

Welp.  Turns out that about 10 jumps out, in the middle of MM territory, there was a Tri and some random neut camping the gate.  Because I'm a retard and couldn't be arsed to even fit a stab, I get webbed and pointed and popped while trying to slowboat the 15k back to the gate.

Bad news:  I lost out on selling it for probably the 70 mil I wanted for it.  Good news: I got to drink a beer while flying it.

Really, it wasn't that bad.  If I had insured it but hadn't hit trouble: 70 mil - 22 mil = 48 mil.  In this case I got the default payout of 30 mil.  Net loss of 18mil.  Though, if I had been smart enough to fit WCS I would have made something like 69.5mil    :uhrr:

Haha, i was just going to give ya shit for dying to Kaker. I had logged about an hour earlier from a roam with him and a couple friends.

Haha, funny thing is that we lost about the same amount of isk.  I did see a few dozen NC in the area, thought they were at a station but must have been on a roam.   I didn't call them on him or anything.

I don't see any of my loot on him either, now that would have been funny.  I was carrying a shuttle though so he probably couldn't fit it.

This is why FC's should either be in Coverts, have an alt account in one, or make damn sure they have and keep in touch with scouts.  Oh, and not be retarded.

Falcons are pretty vulnerable to the FC who can't decide which side of a gate to engage on.  In Catch in particular I was always slowboating to gates while primaries are being called on the other side (fitting an AB is fine, fitting an MWD gimps your falcon in all sorts of ways), after warping to a gate at 100 then having some retard IAC FC go all gung-ho.

Ok, so Saturday evening and I was kind of bored ratting and I didn't hear about any fleet ops going on. Intel was kinda quiet (as usual) so I decided I would do the good Samaritan, fly to Jita and load up the Badger II with goodies for the understocked home station. There may have been the intention of making a little bit of isk in there, but anyway...

So, I fill up my alts cargo in Jita and head for airaken with both chars. All the way from our home system to empire was empty, only seeing a few blues in the usual spots near BWF. I load up my badger II in empire, check intel before I set off (yes, its still dead), but before I undock I get a RL distraction that takes me away from the game for 10mins or so.

Anyway, when I get back to Eve, I'm kinda flustered at this stage because by now, I would have / should have been back to our home system. So, I undock and burn for home at full speed. Check intel? Nah that thing is useless here anyway, nobody watches it or reports reds...

That loss mail has got to be one of the most brutal I have ever seen. You have billions upon billions in loot. You can:

Buy a carrier, move with no risk
Or fly down in a 'fairly safe' cov ops or recon - taking portions to minimize a loss

Well, blackops are a bunch of guys who we deploy to harass specific targets, very often different ones from who the fleet is working on.  They deploy into enemy territory and play area-denial games for long periods.  They have killed a few alliances without the fleet ever having to deploy.

As regards why that retard tried to run that cargo in a rapier, and how he survived long enough running missions in 0.0 to amass such wealth without picking up a capital capacity, I guess that we are looking at Mr Space Chinaman here, in which case he is probably getting beaten on the soles of his feet IRL right now.

Fake edit: No, they definetely are annoying there. O-N area now makes me very nervous. The big problem is, good luck fighting them. I hate tactics that really have no counter. We are facing one a jump away from ROIR - a cloaked Onyx, a rapier, and a arazu - wait for single targets with alt scouts and get easy kills all day long. You can't hunt the guys down, they just cloak. You can't bait them, they have alt scouts. You can be smart and live though. Move in packs, warp to planets first to avoid bubbles and what not.

I just personally think cloaks are about as weak as it gets, unless the ship is designed for them. I say remove them for all but those ships, but thats just me.

I engaged a billboard in kamela despite concord warning!!
My target was sat next to said billboard and I clicked on object in space rather than overview.

Wrong target + red mist/poor recognition + ignorance of concord warning = Ass toasty/loss of ship/sudden appearance back in station.

He arranges to people have kill rights on him By blowing them up in low sec and when they attack him he blows them up with his tricked out t2 ships while the rest of the corp can only watch. So I say fuck it target my corp member wreck and shoot it. The Man from Concord, He says NO! BOOM!

Afer a lot of wrangling with GMs it turns out that if you hill someone, then the wreck is owned by you, even though its marked as belonging to your corp on your overview. SO I shot a wreck and concord said no, even though as far as I was concerned I was allowed to.

I've had a guy grab 3 billion in suicided cargo from me cause of some fuckin warp in lag.

I was shitty for about 5 minutes till I realized, I didn't really lose 3 billion...that poor dumb ass did. I just pretended it popped and moved along (though I didn't sleep the best that night).

So I went onto the Eve-O forums and tried to log in with my lapsed character who happens to be holding most of my ISK and other shit only to get "login credentials denied" and began to panic fuck my account has been hacked (all this talk of account hacking has me jittery). So I logged ingame to send an urgent petition to CCP and in my hurry I mistakenly logged on using her details and was then told the account hasn't been accessed since it lapsed phew...I then realised I was trying to log into the main Eve-O forums with her not the account section, which is the only section you can access while in a lapsed state, panic over paranoia still abound  :oh_i_see:

You know, you'd think after 2.5 years I might have learnt something. I am hereby obliged to tell you my continued bad luck with T1 industrials, in a tale of 15 minutes ago I like to call "Oh god Empire is trying to kill me!"

So I've spent the whole day moving loads of ships and giant secure containers into 0.0 from Empire through a wormhole route I carved out for myself the other day. So far I've crammed everything but the kitchen sink through it without a hiccup, BBQing outside and going to the neighbors sauna while my crap autopilots around high-sec. While considering calling it quits I somehow still find a bunch of GSCs in a station and decide to pick whatever remaining hauler I have and go pick them up. Turns out it's a bunch of salvage, various modules and other crap I had forgotten about from our Delve days. Sweet. Autopilot Bon Voyage!

My first fortunate thing is that I was looking at the screen while the next set of events happened. Because I took a detour to grab a hauler the route back now takes me through Gallente space and I'm -6.11 to them! No worries. The NPC Navy doesn't scram, so I'll just dock up, put on some tank and go back the way I came. I undock, but because you undock at full speed these days the fully expanded Iteron IV isn't as nimble as it is from a standstill. Who am I kidding? It's a big cardboard penis in the process of getting shot at. Beep Beep! BREEP BREEP! Oh, shit.... dockdockdockdockdockdock!

So with the distracting feelings of being a moron and a player who's so bad at eve he gets ganked by NPCs I manage to, somehow, play docking games with the NPCs that blew me up using an Iteron Mark I. Also, somehow, I manage to get everything back even though for 5 minutes I thought the randoms had scooped all already while I sulked, because there were two identical stations in the system with the same names, and a few ships sitting outside on all of them. Thank the Lord who protects the stupid and careless.

What's even dumber is that you were apparently carrying a billion isk in a badly active-tanked T1 industrial.  And were planning to autopilot with it.

Down the thread the CEO admits that the guy was fighing it till he fouind out he had been punked by having it done on the test server, at which point he conceeded he had been played extreamly well, and he sheepishly authorised payment of the escrow as He felt Reddit deserved it. So the legal implications are for naught.

Looking into it more, it looks like it was also more that what happened is that the 'escrow' was actually he bought $1000 worth of time codes from Shattered Crystal and asked them to hold it as a prize.  They agreed.  But their policy is no refunds for virtual goods, and were it got ugly was basically R was going to initiate a fraudulent chargeback, after detailing his full plan on the Internet and in e-mail.

Alright, the story is that some guy voluntarily paid $1,000 of GTCs to someone who tried but failed to scam him because he thought the attempted scam was so cool.

If that's actually true then he seems pretty chill. Wonder if he still needs a corp?

Should I spend this $1000 in a Thai lovehouse or just throw it at some stupid meaningless internet spaceship grudge?
