So since I got off my arse to check and found that the copy of Desert Rats vs Afrika Korps is in fact infected with the AIDS, I've decided not to install and look for another source for fun with small tanks.

Company of Heroes is on the agenda as an eventual purchase, but right now it's still pretty expensive, and as it's a PC title, I like to wait until they drop down to a nice level before my cheap-ass self buys them.

So I've been looking at Codename: Panzers Phase One/Two, which both got fairly good reviews. I went over to http://www.boycottstarforce.net/game-list/ to check it out, and found a lovely confusing non-answer. I'd be getting the Euro version, but I can't for the life of me figure out if "Yes / No (Spain/Italy - FX Interactive)" means it's diseased only in Spain and Italy, or everywhere but Spain and Italy.

So, I turn to f13. Just in case someone here knows.

Company of Heroes is well worth the price.  Do what you have to in order to get a copy, maybe look for a used copy on ebay.  You won't regret it.

Well, looking at gamecopyworld they have a fixed exe for version 1.06 that has starforce removed - so buy anything, patch up to 1.06, and replace the exe with that. If you don't run it the first time, you won't get HIV.

It's what I had to do with Space Rangers 2 and a few racing games.

I know you can get Space Rangers 2 through Stardock, the same people who did GalCiv2. I'm not sure if it comes with the herpes or what; I know GalCiv2 did not. The copy you get online may be different from the box version.

Also...fuck, while looking to make sure GalCiv2 didn't have Starforce, I found out Spellforce 2 uses it.

I've been eying the game at GameStop for awhile now.   cry

Oh, I will. There's plenty of places that sotck it around here, I'm just waiting for it to drop a bit further. Doing the same for Dark Crusade, as well...

Company of Heroes is on my list, too. But it's RTS, so it's pretty low on the list. Can you pause and issue orders? (my stock RTS question, it's the only way I play...like a TBS).

Yeah, you can pause.  The campaign is actually very well done, and there's a good variety of maps.

Company of Heroes cockblocked me about the 4th mission in. The difficulty goes from 3/10 to 8/10 in about 4 minutes.

Then again, I suck at RTS games, but I was doing flawless victories for the first couple maps then I couldn't do ANYTHING. I had better luck with Dawn of War.

Pause...and give orders? Big difference. Iirc, Dawn of War (going by the demo), you couldn't. At least I think that's why I passed on that game, I like WH40k.

Yeah, I remember being able to issue orders while paused, and I rechecked with Google, and I see a bunch of references to being able to do so.  Been about 6 months since I played.

You can. I'd pause a lot to set MG's to suppress certain areas. Came in very handy during rushes and scenarios where you have to be very cautious. As one person said, it does get very hard at one point and requires you to be a bit more conservative. Overall though the game was extremely good and I'm tempted to bug my buddy to give it back. Better yet, I'm going to do that. Damn you people...

There's also a small text edit you can do to decrease the game speed.  I hate it when games don't include that by default, because I like my RTSes glacially slow.

I'm pretty sure this has been changed, either with one of the numerous patches or the latest expansion (Dark Crusade).  It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I was able to pause and give my attack orders to coordinate my armor and inf. groups.

Considering the history between Stardock and the Starforce thugs, I am 100% sure you won't find it on anything made by Stardock.  In fact, GC2 doesn't have any copy protection at all.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

GalCiv2 has been sitting unopened on my desk for quite a while now.  I was on a TBS kick and bought it and Civ IV.  Civ IV sucked me in so much that I forgot about GC2 until I had burned out my turnbaseditis.  Since then I have hopped between CoV, WoW and now EQ2 and damn if I wasn't thinking about picking up Company of Heros as I liked the demo.

Too many games, not enough time.

Yeah, that's the main reason I stopped playing Company of Heroes.  Kept wanting to replay it, and ended up staying up for hours devising new ways to crush.
