From Joystiq, originally from a local news paper:

A Chinese student was removed from Clements High School in Fort Bend, Texas after parents complained he had re-created the school grounds in a game and uploaded the map for his friends to play. The boy was placed in the district's alternate education school and later arrested, as the police considered him a "terroristic threat"... No charges were filed, though the boy won't be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Quote from:  Local News Article
“They arrested him,” Chen said of FBISD police, “and also went to the house to search.” The Lin family consented to the search, and a hammer was found in the boy’s room, which he used to fix his bed, because it wasn’t in good shape, Chen said. He indicated police seized the hammer as a potential weapon.

“They decided he was a terroristic threat,” said one source close to the district’s investigation.

Same.  And shit, taking a real space and turning it into a game level isn't trivial.  Much less so with these actual 3D games they've got nowadays where just drawing out the floor plan doesn't quite cut it.   tongue  That kid might have a bright future as a 3D modeler or an architect or something, and now he's being punished for it?  Fuck that noise.

I'd like to think that these people (the parents who reported it) think that they are helping somehow, but in reality, they are probably just trying to get their 15 minutes of fame. I think a big part of all the over sensationalized bullshit that is going on lately is a product of this.

He had slanty eyes, just like that other kid.  Dead givaway that he's a terrorist-in-training.  Besides, it was for the children.  No, the OTHER children.

Simple: The news media, lacking actual news most of the 24 hours of the day, makes do my scaring the crap out of EVERYONE. Do you know what the 'teaser' ledes are like for fucking local news? It is -- no fucking kidding -- a daily varient of this:

DEEP VOICE, over pictures of children: "DO YOU KNOW WHO WORKS IN YOUR SCHOOLS? ARE CHILD PREDATORS LURKING THE HALLS? TUNE IN TONIGHT ON CHANNEL XX AT 9:00 TO FIND OUT!".

or

DEEP VOICE, over pictures of kids: "GUNS. VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES. IS SOMEONE TARGETTING YOUR SCHOOL FOR ASSAULT? CHANNEL XX INVESTIGATES!".

Fucking hear that, 24 fucking 7 for years -- and then throw in cable news and their OMG! DEATH! -- and it's pretty easy to loose utter sight of reality. I mean, hell, our President won an election off fear-mongering. It's why we love our guns -- our culture has decided it's under constant assault.

Morat20 wins the thread.  My step-father won't let my nephew walk from the end of the driveway after getting off the school bus to his house alone because he thinks that if a sex predator doesn't get him, a bear will.  The poor man gets these fears from being a cable news junkie.  His habit started on 9/11/01.

I remember doing my highschool and most of the surrounding neighbourhood in Adventure Construction Set.  Good times.

I did Perseus v Medusa from Clash of the Titans in ACS. It was damned cool, if I must say so myself.

Freshman year of college, we modded our RA into Doom 1, complete with annoying/hilarious whining he would leave on our answering machines, and uploaded it to his BBS.

I guess in today's world, instead of my current happy life, I'd be in prison and/or under serious psychological evaluation?  Makes sense to me!

Sure, or even post-Columbine in the "school setting + violence" category.

I used to make maps of my house, my friends' houses, and even the Church at one point when we had FPS tournaments after Bible Study. The Church map was a HUGE hit.
