Of course I'm one of those lucky bastards that has the mouth that doesn't get cavities, I do get quite a bit of tartar (calculus) build up, so the most I've had done is 4 teeth pulled, deep cleanings, and check ups.  Never had a cavity...wish my son had those genes passed onto him, as he has had a couple of cavities.

I'm the same way. Though I have bad discoloration from my braces, had it since I was 6. BUT, never a cavity or anything. But yea, bad buildup on the teeth.

I've always wondered why so many people have cavities and shit...

(Knock on wood) As of 3 years ago or so, I didn't have any. I just continue to brush my teeth most every day, and floss most of the time as well. I really hope no cavities pop up next time I go to the dentist....

Though, without insurance atm, I have no idea when that is going to be.  undecided

My mom's teeth are very weak, she has about two dozen cavities and brushes her teeth twice a day. I inherited it so I had a pretty bad cavity problem which abruptly stopped when I hit 25. I haven't changed my brushing routine, but my dentist says it isn't all that uncommon to have something like that happen.

Oh if you do need massive dental stuff (I know some have the roots from hell, or need all their teeth yanked and are infected), conscious sedation is awesome, a little versed and morphine (of if the dentist thinks he is gonna be done quick etomidate and fentanly) and your in lala land threw the IV meds.  Of course that costs a lot more, so you could also do like one of my buddies and just get drunk and have someone drive him to the appointment.
Concious sedation is what they used for my wisdom teeth extraction. Don't need a specialist, and the patient will even hold tools for you. And -- in rare cases -- attempt to hit on the hygeniest.

So I've heard. :)

"Rare" indeed. That's what I had, of course I don't remember it since it inhibits memory formation. Apparently people make quite the fools of themselves :)

I don't live my life as though it was a contest to prove how much discomfort and pain I can stand.

If I can avoid it, I will.

My oral surgeon admitted, while they were prepping, that for the first couple of months they used it it was often awkward and generally hilarious. They finally got a handle on how to keep the patient from moving too much or trying to talk too much. I got the impression it's like doing dental work on a drunk baby. :)
