Anyone heard of Saga? I just got an email from them, somehow landing on their mailing list, and it looks to be an attempt at an MMORTS with a microtrans-based revenue model. The team lead was the Lead Programmer on Starcraft: Brood War.

And this post summarizes everything I know about it.

You?

flash websites are annoying as fuck when your drunk, so no.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

Huh. They're already in beta. Or they just made up a REALM list and have fake statuses. Not likely - but funny as hell if so.

Anyway, I'd give that a try.

The website sucks part.

The game I agree with you. It's been around for awhile (as you know) and I've always felt it was a nice departure from typical that leveraged a really popular other type of activity that became gaming (DDR).

Apparently the game is in open Beta from now until its March 4th release.  I'll let someone else take the bullet first.

I played this thing in the first round of alphas a long time ago.

You were so dependant on what you got in your booster pack it wasn't funny. I guess the point is to force you into buying a truckload of boosters until you get one of the stronger units.

Back then, the difficulty level bored me enough to make me stop logging in during a beta test (which is extremely rare).
The game probably changed a lot since then though, but the original concept (with the booster pack) was enough to tell me i wouldn't play come retail.

I played in closed beta and while back, and just got bored once I no longer had free boosters coming to me. The difficulty curve is all over the map, the interface was slow and clunky. It's not the kind of game you can play well unless you plan to spend money to build up an army, and then grind that army's experience and items up. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't worth putting money in.

For a moment I thought perhaps there would be a SaGa mmo in the works. Needless to say, I was mildly disappointed when I realized this wasn't the case.

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/saga/   Free giveaway! Only for today!

Anyhow, I'm playing Saga from the recommendation of a friend and it is what it says it is. An RTS game that you play with MMO-like objectives. Sold a level 9 leather armor I couldn't use for more wood to build farms for example. There's lots of (boring) grinding potential in that idea right there, but it doesn't feel that bad at the moment, as you can trade resources, items, units and even spells with other players.

Guild features will only be available to registered users. With the boosters and client combined I think Saga seems like a $30 investment at most, and by the surface look it isn't worth it at the moment. The graphics aren't that great, but if you liked SpellForce you might like this.

Explain your fucking Sig.

Nevermind, I didn't particularly care for an explanation.

Ok, someone voluntarily explained. Nevermind. Link fixed.

I tried this out last night and was not a fan.  Plus, it crashed while rewarding me for a mission.  I've already got one buggy game with a crap UI to deal with, so let me know when they get their shit fixed.

Yeah, I crashed one time as well. It is one of those games that keeps playing for you while you're away, similarly to browser-based kingdom building games.

I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but it's promising, and I'm betting you can gain a great edge if you have friends. The concept of raiding enemies alongside allied armies compelles me.  Plenty of PvE right now, but without friends it's too hard to take on the gold/heroic/territory gain quests at the moment.

You may THINK you'll get good play out of $30, but you won't. I played it in beta, and you either keep buying boosters or you're fucked. It had decent potential, but too buggy, too ugly and too pricey/collectory to be worth putting money down.

I played it a couple of times during beta. There is a lot of potential in an MMORTS but their implementation was lacking polish in a lot of aspects. The whole game is designed around pushing booster packs, which is understandable as its how they make their money, but they could have been a little more subtle about it.
