Okay, cool, nail her with that.  But "attempted murder" it isn't.

What's the average sentence for DUI with no casualties?

Depends on the state, but in Oregon you lose your license for a year. In Ohio, it's 3 days of jail plus a week of rehab.

The sad thing about all of this is (or funny, depending on how you look at it): She plead guilty to all of it. Probably out of the hope that the court would see that she herself recognizes that she has problems, and in turn, grant her some leniency to the sentencing + rehabilitation.

Bad move, lady.

So you'd have to be caught driving drunk 3,650 times to spend 30 years in jail for it.

Not really.  But y'know.  There's a point in there somewhere.

If you get caught three times you permanently lose driving privileges in Oregon. Not the best example, because frankly I think if someone got more than three DUIs they should get locked away, too, but that's just me. A cyclist was killed on my street last year because some drunk guy whose license had been revoked hit him and dragged him half a block. Just goes to show that for some people, you just gotta fucking lock 'em up and throw away the key. A member of my extended family is on the same path. He hasn't killed anyone yet, that I know of, but he continues to drink while he's on state-mandated Anabuse (for a prior DUI conviction) and drives after he's been drinking.

Ohio's first offense is 90 days license suspension and a $200-$1000 fine for .10% BAC.  Refusal to take the officer's test is an automatic one year suspension.  A single vehicle-related felony is automatic seizure of the vehicle by the court, a $750-$10,000 fine, 3 year ALS to permanent if the court decides as such, a rehab program at the offender's expense and a minimum of 60 days up to one year in jail.  Refusal to take the test changes the 3 year ALS to 5.  That's been in effect in Ohio since '93. Easy-to read-summary of Ohio's DUI law.  What you mentioned sounds more like a plea deal someone might have gotten.

The rest you all can argue all you want. I think we're too lenient on most criminal behaviors, and have no pity when any harsh sentence is handed-down.

From what I've seen, there are two kinds of drunk drivers. There are the type who drive drunk until they fuck up themselves or someone else, and they have an awakening and never do it again. Then there are the types that no matter how many times you stop them, they keep doing it. Multiple offenders are IMO not going to change. They should be dealt with accordingly.

Well, I guess I belong to that group, I was tested for alcohol one time in my whole driving carreer an surpassed the limit by 0.1 %(0). I was more than suprised, because I would have never thought that drinking two beer would influence my driving skills. That expierience, plus the round about 400 $ fine cured me quite fast.

I took a simulator test under the influence of alcohol, years later. You would be suprised HOW FUCKING MUCH alcohol fucks with your brain and reflexes even in small doses.

[edit] Bah. To hell with it.

I'll just say though (for the umpteenth time): This isn't about punishment or no punishment. As if the idea of being against a 30 year sentence isn't "dealing with things accordingly". This isn't about being against punishment. It's about how extreme the punishment should be.

Besides all that, she didn't kill anyone. She fucked 17 year old boys and gave them beer.

Over here the sex part would be legal but the drink part not.

Strange.

Well, the drink parts were the felonies (maximum sentencing was 6 years if I recall), and the "sexual assault" parts were misdemeanors (2 years sentencing or something). So I guess the sex chages were minor in comparison.

In total, there were two misdemeanor chages of "sexual assault", 11 felony charges of "contributing to delinquency of a minor", 3 misdemeanors relating to violating bail bond conditions, 2 accounts of violating protective order from seeing her son, and I'm not sure what else.

No previous history of felonies and whatnot.

The severity of the sentence comes from her repeated attempts and intentions to do illegal things, I'd imagine. She got a hard-assed judge.

And I contend that if she was a man and her victims were girls, very very few people would feel she got off too light.

Would you all respond the same way if it were a 40-something man providing alcohol to teen girls and having sex with them?

Exactly.

The internet has ruined porn.  Grouses about not seeing 'the bush' would have been grouses about her not shooting flaming ping-pong balls out of her ass and vagina while sucking off a horse if she had spread.

Then again, I'm not much of an 'axe wound pr0n' lover, so it could just be me.

December 15, 2005

You know what's sexier than Rachel McAdams slipping her nipple at the premiere of The Family Stone? Rachel McAdams slipping her nipple at the premiere of The Family Stone, only to have it discovered that she has hairy nipples. Sure it's not quite sasquatch territory, but when dealing with the female breast the maximum allowed number of hairs is zero. Any more than that and you're practically a man. I don't know the proper etiquette when it comes to nipple hair hygeine, but I imagine plucking would be the way to go. I don't picture a Schick Quattro really doing the trick.
