If there was ever a case for justifiable homicide, that is it. The bonus is that it would prevent Eddie from making any more crappy movies.

Hey, Undercover Brother was funny as shit, despite Chris Kattan. But yeah, you wreck a car that nice, someone needs a curbstomping at the least.

I'm wondering how that even happened, because there was a fairly large cut in the video between the shot of him turning towards the wall (at low speed) and the Ferrari actually hitting the wall.
I mean, he obviously was not driving very quickly. I am wondering if there was a mechanical failure. Ferraris are not exactly known for their reliability.

That's totalled? $1.5m and beyond repair?
Ok. $500 for it. I'll take.

I wouldn't be surprised if it actually was beyond repair. I don't think they make the body pieces for the car. Also, if I remember correctly, the frame and chassis are both made of carbon fiber, so you might have a tough time fixing that.

Who says it needs to be replaced with carbon fiber? My redneck inlaws have a machine shop (or at least, enough crap to call it that). I can get something close enough and paint it red. A promise to let my mechanic brother in-law drive it and I've got that part set (his hobby is rebuilding cars to race them). I bet for a few grand I could get close enough.

Actually, Undercover Brother was funny as hell, despite Dave Chapelle.
Yes, it's just a car. A 1.5 million dollar car that had a production run of 400. I'm not even a big car buff, and I'd pay $500 to have the fender on the good side. I'd just stick it in my living room or something.

The powertrain? That's fine, its all behind the middle. It's a write-off because it cannot realistically be repaired and sold for a value above what could be earned from scrapping it. Once a higher performance sports car has had its frame damaged, nobody sane would spend 'serious money' on it. What you have up there in an Enzo is the frame, lights, and all the coolant fun. The part of the frame that is damaged is one of the aluminium honeycomb extrusions that the front suspension and steering arms (also wrecked) were attached to. The carbon fiber part of the frame is the tub, which is probably undamaged - or at least only lightly damaged at the mounting point for the front left aluminium assembly. The salvage value is pretty high - not least the fact that there's an undamaged F140 engine, with the F1 gearbox mated directly to the back of it. Nobody is getting it for $500. There's a bidding war in progress, no doubt.

I suspect the insurance company has the final say in what happens to that wreck, since they presumably own it now.

It'd be an awfully generous insurance company that pays out after you lent your car to some guy who was at a racetrack. Besides, he probably didn't have collision insurance, it would be too expensive.

I assumed the owner had insurance, not Eddie. I mean, would you let someone drive your uninsured car at high speed? Would you let someone drive your uninsured/partially insured Enzo? I don't mean through GEICO, either. That guy was way too calm to not have insurance, but I admit that I'm not armed with the facts here.

I doubt many people get regular insurance on premium vehicles, beyond any legally mandated minimum. Insurance is on average a losing game, and if you can afford these cars you can afford to not have insurance.

I don't know how universal this is, but I've totalled a car when I was a teenager (not my fault! Weee!) and I got two offers -- 1500 and I keep the car, or 3k and the insurance company kept the car. It cost me about 1100 bucks to repair the damage. Didn't look the prettiest, but it drove. I used the other 400 to replace the tires. Drove it for another three years, so that worked out for me.

I read that article and LOL'd.
Couple things: First, even if he was going slow (below 60 mph) most likely he hammered the throttle too hard in any gear below fifth and it got away from him, and he paniced. Hell, my '04 GTO will easily spin the rear around in third going 20 mph, and you don't have to mash it hard. 50 percent throttle and you'll spin like a top if you don't roll onto the gas.
Second, insurance companies won't cover an accident at a racetrack, unless you have a rider to the policy. There's a clause in your paperwork that spells it out loud and clear.

Whoops, yeah...of course I knew the Enzo was a mid-engine design. Slipped my mind.
Still a damn shame, but in all honesty, I think there are prettier cars than the Enzo. I even like other Ferraris more than the Enzo. /shrug

They used to do that up here. Someone sideswiped my beatup old firechicken while I was parked on the side the road. Insurance company offered me $1400 bucks not to fix the giant dent in the rear quarter. Took the money and brought out the sledge hammer the next day. They won't make those kind of offers anymore though. We live in an area where running car insurance scams is a past time. I've personally been through the situation of tapping a guys rear bumper, walking around the car with him to look at the lack of damage, and then having him magically discover his neck was hurt. (Fucker got nothing). It's not unusual here for a new driver to pay more monthly for insurance then they do for the actual car payment.

Well it was not him but how dumb are you to buy a $400k car and then get drunk? Oh and a nice slideshow of pics at the site as well. http://www.local6.com/news/13872989/detail.htmlA Central Florida man who crashed his new $400,000 Lamborghini only hours after getting behind the wheel has been charged with drunken driving, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Witnesses said he was taking a curve when he crashed. The Windermere resident was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash, officers said. The man's wife was also in the vehicle and suffered a minor injury to her arm.
