TVs. The New models are coming out, and the old ones are dropping in price.

This is what I'm looking at. Seems like a hell of a deal.

It will be for console games and movie watching, and I already have a home theater, so I don't care about the crappy speakers, other than to cheer that they didn't put them on the sides.

Thoughts? Comments?

If image quality is important:

front panel >>>>>> rear projection

Unfortunately you have to pay big bucks for that quality at the sizes you are looking at.

What Trippy said.

If you can though, find one at a mom and pop to look at. Perhaps they'll even hook up your preferred console to it.

Either way though, that BB price is ridiculous.

My 1 and only complaint about my SXRD is viewing angle when playing the Wii or standing up watching it.

Very minor complaint, but it's there.  The screen quality plumets when viewed from above.

At some point, I need to strike a balance with cost/quality; That's about the limit of what I can spend, and it seems like it's the best I can get for $1400. That's at the top end of my sizes, I could do a 45 inch if I wanted... Since it's going to be on a stand, I don't think the viewing from above issue is going to exist.. but I'll definitely watch for it.

But NG Sigma is coming out soon, so I need to get prepared -- It's time to buy a PS3, too.

Well, 1080p LCD's are dropping *a bit*. Slowly, but perhaps it'd be a good idea to wait just a little longer. 40-42 inchers are already nearing the $1500 range (or are already there in some cases), so maybe the 42+ inchers will hit sub-$2000 levels soon enough.

I'd buy this if I had your budget. I've been very satisfied with my DLP for years now. Not sure if Samsung is putting in LCD bulbs yet, that's what I want in my next set. The only downside to DLP is bulb replacement and LCD bulbs should fix that up nicely.

Sky, do you have the viewing angle problem too? I noticed it when at BestBuy the other day.

Yep, that was the other option. I've been eyeing that tv for a while, but BB put this TV on clearance, and the price suddenly dropped into low-hanging-fruit range.

Victoly is mine, It'll be here sunday. I had to buy the matching stand too, of course. Ouchy

I guess. I don't watch tv from a standing position, but I do notice it when walking past the tv. It's not bad from our normal viewing range (about 8 or 9 feet), but up closer the image darkens noticeably.

Meh, I'm using plastic lawn tables :) Spending $$$ on a tv stand is tough for me.

You could try looking at TVs at Costco. A lot of their sets come with the matching stand for free. Also, the prices are really good.

I have the Samsung too. Viewing angle on the vertical does make it darken; in our case, it's more noticeable from below, because the TV is higher than the eyeline from the couch.

Kinda off topic, but I bought another TV for the bedroom yesterday (one of the new LCD Samsung's, but 26"). Makes me wish the living room set (a Panasonic) was one of the bigger versions of one of these. Almost plasma quality in this little thing (and the larger ones looked just as good). I'm convinced now that all of these 2007 Samsung models seem like the way to go for price/pq ratio.
