Colony StudiosColony Studios was founded by game industry veterans for the express purpose of developing next-generation, massively multiplayer online (MMO) products. Our MMO creative team brings to Colony Studios more MMO development experience than any other company at launch, having made significant contributions to half of the top ten MMO game hit titles: World of Warcraft, Eve Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heroes
The founding members have collectively shipped over 70 titles across a wide range of platforms, from today’s high-end PCs to the Apple IIe™, from the Sony PlayStation®2 and Microsoft Xbox™, and to the Sega Genesis™ and Nintendo® NES®.
Our current focus is on developing a unique, space-based sci-fi MMO that will contain immersive gameplay mechanics, innovative design, and truly unique content. It will captivate players, create social ties, and push the genre itself.
Stay tuned for our pending announcement about the licensing of a major Hollywood IP! They've been listed as one of the Hero's Engine licensee's. It’s too early to announce specifics, as we’re hard at work developing a space-based sci-fi MMO utilizing proven middleware technology. Watch for our upcoming press announcements Check back in, say...5 years?

I'd be interested to know who they are claiming are one of the original DAOC team members, since I thought I knew where they all were.

Space and a major Hollywood IP?
Did Firefly have a developer yet, or only the publisher and rights? Star Trek is already taken. Probably too early and too unknown for another Star Wars. Babylon 5? Andromeda? Lexx? Red Dwarf?
What's left?

Farscape? It's unlikely to be Firefly since Multiverse is the one searching for a development house and they would presumably want whoever they pick to use the Multiverse engine.

Isn't Battlestar Galactica unclaimed?
Hell, I might even enjoy working on that IP.

Firefly 'rights' are owned by Multiverse, who to my knowledge, hasn't named a developer yet. And I believe that whomever they sign to develop it has to use their inhouse Multiverse tools/engine thingy. Isn't Battlestar Galactica unclaimed? Someone is doing it, but can't remember who. Supposedly, it's coming out for the xBox 360. Rumors were that Blizzard/Vivendi was doing it, but quickly denied by both parties.

Space and Major Hollywood?
Alien(s)/Predator MMO?
On a completely different note, please bring me a worldly and non-diku (Ultima Online-like) GRR Martin's Ice and Fire.

Well they don't say an original team member, only that whoever it was worked on DAOC. It could be an artist or a member of the live team or something. That said, they make these claims but also give no names. In fact, I couldn't find names anywhere on the site.

Misspelling three of the five MMOs they say they've worked on doesn't inspire confidence.

The xbox 360 Battlestar Galactica game is being developed by Auran. I don't believe it's an MMO though.

Of course, to be true Fire and Ice, you'd have to have permadeath.

Yeah Permadeath would be a problem but a necessity. I'll take it.
Idea: When you *die* by another Player's hand (the game will be PvP to the core and strongly factions/houses based with alliances dynamically changing), you have a choice: 1) Permadeath. And then you get to create another character that is just a younger brother/son/cousin of the dead one. Or a vassal, a serf, a lover, whatever. Let's say a step or two less skilled then your previous and just dead char (I'd avoid levels). 2) Surrender, and submit to your killer (losing honour or whatever). You automatically have to join his/her faction for a given (not so short) time, and until you are under your new faction you can be forced to attack your former friends and allies (as long as they aren't from your former main House). You can shorten that timer by actually doing a good job for your new Master, and when the timer run out you can stay under your new House or just betray (again) and get back to your friends (losing honour again).
Mobs can't kill you, just knock you out, comatose or the like. "Releasing" when you "die" by a mob means a commoner or a traveler found your comatose body lying in the ground, carried you to the closest tavern where they healed you as they could and put you back on your feet. Of course you have to pay some money to the commoner/traveler for saving your life, and of course you have revive sickness/wounds.
That said, and trying to not spoil it too much for those who didn't read it yet, recently it's not so easy to die or stay dead on Westeros.
P.S: Argh, now I want this game.

i can't believe you just compared Tom Baker to Back to the future Fox! I can't see the BBC giving away the rights to a third party, especially one that no-one seems to know about. Would Back to the future be a possible IP as horrible as that could be? That was quite a random thing to say /ignore

I really don't know who that is. Should I? Dunno. How old are you? 33. I googled Tom Baker, found out who he was after Signe said something. But we didn't get cable until I was about 8 or so (little bitty town in Alabama (where we actually lived OUT of town if that makes sense)). And the chances of having that show (Doctor Who) on there was slim to none, unless it was on PBS or something. Didn't watch much TV growing up, or in college. Or even now, actually. Probably would have gotten my ass kicked or hazed if I watched it in the athletic dorms or fraternity house I lived in for most of my college career.

I think. You should watch them if they show those old ones again. It's a hoot!

It was on PBS and I watched the shit out of it, until somewhere in the middle of Peter Davison's run on the show. I'm even now going back and renting DVD's they've released of other Doctors. You really should try to watch some, it's fantastic stuff. Just don't mind the cheesy special effects.

Dude. Al-uh-bam-uh. We don't have hockey. We did, actually, but it didn't last long. I believe there are PARD leagues up in Huntsville, but Huntsville really isn't Alabama. Much in the same way that Florida (or Cali) doesn't qualify as part of the 'South', Mason-Dixon line be damned.
