Neocron 2 is  finally getting a PvP and PvE revamp (ver 2.2) early next week.  Haven't played since the 2.0 upgrade two years ago (??) but here are the details:

Quote
Neocron 2, the unique Cyberpunk/Science-Fiction real-time combat MMORPG, reaches its next evolution stage. Neocron Evolution 2.2 provides a complete revision of the Player vs. Environment (PvE) and Player vs. Player (PvP) combat system. In close cooperation with the Neocron 2 community, all aspects of these core systems have been reviewed and adjusted accordingly. Neocron Evolution 2.2 is a free update; all that is needed is an active Neocron 2 game account.

On the occasion of the soon coming release of Neocron Evolution 2.2, all inactive Neocron 2 game accounts will be reactivated for 30 days with no charge as of the day of release. Additionally, a new payment method via PayPal will be available for credit card users.

Despite it's many problems I always enjoyed Neocron; although the graphics were behind the curve, I always thought it captured the dark  gritty cyberpunk setting perfectly.  Great atmosphere.  Lot's of fun times in Pepper Park oogling strippers and PvPing.

Will be definately giving the 30 days free thing a go, and may even re up depending.

Site is here:

What is the deal with Neocron anyway?  I remember reading about them scrapping the Dome of York xpack, and just starting over and calling it Neocron 2, or something?

Is it the same game with more content, a total redo of the original, or what?

Neocron 2 included the second city (Dome of York) and updated the player character models.  Update 2.1, I believe added new and upgraded weapon  models and revamped outdoor areas.  It looks like 2.2 is more of a long overdue balancing upgrade to both PvP and PvE.

I tried, but the damned download was corrupt, and I'm to lazy to redownload it from somewhere else.

I seem to recall having problems with it last time I tried nabbing a copy of the client to check out the trial.

Shame, too.  I'm so tired of orcs and elves, I've taken up playing Eve.

I downloaded it from the XFire link on the trial page since I had misplaced my install cds.    If you have XFire installed, it dowloads the setup files through the XFire client (I think it's resumeable too).  Everytthing installed fine.

Yeah, I got it off Xfire.

Hmm, I'll give it another whirl, and see what happens.

I remember getting my beta 2 or beta 3 CDs in a package from Germany.

That was awesome.

You know its funny but I recently starting missing my cyberpunk fix and was thinking about Neocron (sufering from a bit of Eve burnout)

At least I now wont have to pay to go back and remember all the reasons I quit  wink

So when does this actually start do they know yet?

What.....The......Fuck

They've taken this long (since Dec 2005) to 'rebalance' (read: nerf) pretty much anyone who tried to multi-class (I guess they need to increase subscription numbers and figured that getting everyone to need multiple accounts was the best way to do it) yet they still cant fix some of the shit thats been wrong SINCE LAUNCH!

I cut the graphics slack (probably in the same way that old school EQ1 players do) but the game still fatal runtimes on you frequently, still takes 2 attempts to login, scenery still floats in mid air in places (military base retail area seems to be the worst place I've seen so far) and now PVE is harder, multi-classers punished harder and yet again the monks seem to get hit with the nerf bat the hardest

Good job I knew I wouldn't be staying

For those that dont know, making a clan in NC2 requires that you have finished your factions Epic Run (which requires I think rank 40 to finish - although you can drug up to get the missions) and then pay several hundred thousand credits for a clan apartment once you have 90 (IIRC) faction sympathy with your faction to gain access to the supply manager who sells it.

Oh and you all have to be the same faction to be in the same clan (I know this sounds obvious but NC has loads of different factions despite having 2 'sides' to the conflict)

The d/l aborted on me, I dont care enough to figure out why.

Well, I have been playing, and am torn about the game.  On the one hand, it is the grindy hardcore open PvP world I remember, WITH STRIPPERS, and a plethora of skill options and things to do.

On the other hand, levelling as a nubcake is a bitch.  A BITCH.  Ammo and other supplies seem to have a higher TL now; this means as a nooblet spy I was SOL after I ran out of ammo with my gun.  I got pissed off enough to try out my old nooblet APU.  Well, same issue.  I ended up running bullshit kill missions until my recycle was high enough to make kits/psi shots; within 10 minutes of this my damn main weapon broke.

Of course I do not have enough repair to fix it, so I am stuck using a noob spell module for a bit.  I did get some blueprints made up, though, and am just getting the scratch together to upgrade to a new module.  Hopefully I get out of class in time to do this tonight.  Not sure if I enjoy being a Psi monk currently; I will probably stick with him for awhile in the hopes that they improve in a patch or two.

OK, the hump I am experiencing is due to changes with the new patch.  IS ANYONE PLAYING, OR WILLING TO LOG IN THEIR ACCOUNT TO HELP ME TRANSFER SOME SHIT?

If I can get some scratch over to my guy in Neocron it will help me out immensely.  I am Proto Pharma all the way, and will stay as such. Lemme know ASAP if you can help me out!

Man, if I had the time, I would certainly help you out, but I never went over to NC2 when they released so it would also cost me some cash. So why did I post? To give you hope. No, seriously, NC was a really enjoyable game during beta and for several months after release. I'm sure it's still just as fun as in the past, but it's a shame to hear about the adjustments. Ah, well. Perhaps when I retire I can play again.

[edit]Aha! I should have known. There's a free trial. I could probably help you transfer stuff, but it wouldn't be until next week, mid-week sometime. Drop me a line if you need me to do that.[/edit]

Disregard.  I just hooked up with one of my friends in game (funny how they remember you even after 2+ years) and it turns out she is one of the richest, if not the richest, people currently subbed.  If you want on the gravy train lemme know; Fallen Angels is the faction we are in.

Yeah PvE got a serious nerf, I used to run aggressor captain missions end over end last time I played to raise cash and symp, now I can bearly kill a captain 1-on-1 (although I admit I havent used all my Psi skill points released in the reset) and the loot they drop and the cash for the kill is now shit (fortunately for me the spawn rate down in the cellars seems to have been nerfed as well - although I wont usually see that as a 'bad thing')

I would probably give the game a shot if I didnt have to re-level. The OP wars were very cool. Implant system was pretty sweet, as well as drugs :)

I wish I still had the info for my friend's Pistol PE. Or my old PSI monk.

You can transfer old characters over, and getting you some levels is easy as pie (I know a sekret way to level ya as a nooblet).  When I said my buddy was the richest person in game I was not joking; she is a super tradeswoman type with hundreds of millions of credits.  In 4 hours I was a mid level psi guy with plenty of creds!

I cant believe Neocron still has horrible account payment problems. I found an old friend and we were going to try out NC, too bad paypal is totally fubared for them with US accounts. 'Should be fixed by Monday'... I wonder how many people they lost or never got because of Click2play previous to that. A shame really, some of the best PVP ive ever experienced was in NC.

They broke PvE mechanics completely; do not bother with it right now.

Did this 2.2 thing update the graphics enough to make them stop looking like ass, or perhaps add some actual story to the factions you join and perform missions for?  I remember downloading the trial they released with Neocron 2, playing for about an hour, realizing, "This looks like it was made from the Half Life 1 engine and has no content whatsoever.", and deleting it.

Same graphics, less stable, cannot level easily since mobs are borked.  It is truly amazing; right when you think they could not do worse (read: having 2/3 the playerbase not able to subscribe for about 2 years) they fix the subscription and ruin gameplay.  And I am not exagerating.  Nor spelling well.
