SCHILD:  I mean Doom was an original. Yes. It did pave the way for Deus ex. yes.
SCHILD:  but Deus is a masterpiece, doom is a piece of early nostalgia.
Koboshi:  I think it’s a valid fight I just think the wrong one is wining
SCHILD:  it is a valid fight.
SCHILD:  I never said it wasn't.
SCHILD:  But for doom to win is to blaspheme the unintended masterpiece that is deus ex.
SCHILD:  Doom far and away was a wolfenstein re-skin at first. Sure it proved to be better. But Deus Ex could be the best FPS ever made.

Some would argue that SS2 was better than Deus Ex...

With that said I favor Revolutionary over Evolutionary, Doom.

Doom has a different and way more sophisticated "3D" engine than Wolfenstein. It's not a reskin. Former one is freeform 2.5D, latter one uses block maps (not to mention the inability to render floor and ceiling, next to the ugly ass graphics).

EVE (inactive): Deakin Frost -- APB (fukken dead): Kayleigh (on Patriot).

Deus Ex, simply on the ability to allow "emergent gameplay."

Doom, Doom brought kickass deathmatch Deus Ex brought... nothing new, it was a prettier and not so scary System Shock 2.

For some reason this thread made me remember the first time I realized that dead nazis looked identical from any direction.  Like their upturned soles were watching you.

Same with any dead bodies in Doom of course.

I would vote doom if I was not allergic to gamespy.  I didn't like deus ex for some unfathomable reason.  I tried so hard to like that game but just found it empty.

I don't know how many accolades I would give to the doom engine being revolutionary.  Ultima underworld released before them I believe and was a better engine really.  Had maps that could do bridges *gasp* that you could go over and under.  Also had an extra degree of freedom in the tilt that occured while in the water.  Couldn't even go in water in doom.  At least not that I recall.

The only thing against UU was that the gameworld screen was pretty small with all the rpg trappings taking up too much space.  But it would have worked fullscreen I suspect since my pathetic system at the time handled it fine.

A blind man with no arms would vote for Doom.

In fact, the only people that wouldn't, are people who weren't here for it.

I was. I voted against it.

While Deus Ex would not have been made without Doom, Deus Ex was a monumental evolutionary leap in gameplay over the "FUCK IT MOVED KILL IT!" gameplay of Doom.

Doom has better multiplayer still today, both DM and Coop, I don't think Deus Ex even has Co Op mode. Doom is also infintely easier to design levels for. However Deus Ex clearly wins on being the better game. Better story, RPG elements, and better graphics.

You clearly haven't played it using the Wrath of St Paul walkthrough.  Now this is a fun way to play through.

Edit - This whole no-see-ums url links sucks.
