I don't know when they added it, but X-COM: UFO Defense is on GameTap. If you already had it up and running via DOSBox, please go about your business.

I just need to get myself a 3.5" drive. Then I'll show those alien bastards what for.

Does DOSBox handle the "RUNS 50 ZILLION TIMES TOO FAST" problem? Because I loved Xcom, but quit playing it a long time ago because of that. (Yes, I know there were programs for that -- I didn't like any of them).

Crap, the copy I got from an abandonware site ages ago always crashes on the first base or city terror mission.
This is almost worth subbing to game tap....and then cancelling once I get my full X-Com fix. Meh, I should really just look on eBay.

I traded in my fun blog for several legal blogs. Or, "blawgs," as the cutesy attorney blawgosphere likes to call 'em.

is it available in CDN? I got GameTap then dumped it when I discovered it has 1/10th the games up here because of intl. licensing.

In fact you need to seriously crank up the cycles it uses (change the default parms) to get any kind of performance.

Good to see, but I still have my PSX version--which runs just fine on my PS2.
Hmmm...I suddenly feel the urge to blast sectoids...

Yeah, I might do that too. Would be great to play this again. In other news, there are some rumors (yeah, yeah) that Irrational might be picking up the X-Com name after they finish Bioshock.

I love my TV an' hug my TV an' call it 'George'.

Mmm...Freedom Force + X-Com? Sounds great to me. A bit more TBS support, I kinda played FF as TBS but you'd need it slower paced when you have teams sprawled across an invasion zone, I'd guess.
I have the CD version of X-Com, but it runs way too fast and quirky in dosbox. I'd hate to see it on the newer machine, probably even weirder.

I have not had that problem. It's a software emulation of a DOS environment and that eats up plenty of CPU. In fact, the CDROM version of System Shock is unplayable via DOSBox, last I checked. I have not tried running X-COM in DOSBox, actually, so I can't say with certainty. The reason to sub to GameTap would be the new Sam & Max games. Of course there are other things, such as Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex and and few other nuggets buried in the shitpile along with the various Mysts and Universal Combat Gold. Lots of retro things, too, if you are into that sort of thing. Not needing a disc in the drive is a big plus for me, especially to replace the Reader Rabbit stuff that my son likes.

Forgot about that. I might go wander Ebay or Amazon and see if I can scrape up a working copy.

Wow, they've added a lot more games since I last tried it out. Hell, I've been wanting to play x-com lately also. I might sub up to it again.
