Say I tossed my WoW CD's a while ago after buying the game and playing for a few months(18 months ago) - is it possible to download everything as long as I have a valid account?

You should be able to find the base client at filelplanet or something similar; the fun part is getting all the patching done  cry

Trying to download the client from the 10 day free trial.

It's bouncing between 14 and 48 hours for 3.16 GB.

Try hitting a BestBuy. Last time I was in one, they had a bunch of the trial clients DVD's in little paper envelopes sitting on the shelf next to the BC boxes. Not sure if they cost anything or not, but even if they're 10 bucks it's worth not trying to download a 3.5gig file.
