I don't think empathy has anything at all to do with being "convincing". I think you're talking about pretending to be sympathetic, not actually being empathetic.

Empathy requires a feeling of the other person's emotional situation, not just an awareness of it. Now, a sociopath might get away with being empathetic and uncaring, but I don't think that's what you're describing at all.

So I'm going to say you're not actually empathetic at all. Go back and tick that box!

I'm aware of their feelings, and I can understand being in whatever situation is being described down to knowing how I'd feel in the same circumstances.  I just simply don't give a flying fuck because it's not me, or anyone I care about most of the time I'm hearing about things.
