http://eqlive.station.sony.com/community/dev_view.jsp?id=63142Pretty big list. Too much to quote really. Scoring System Leader Board Rewards for PvP points PvP specific Resist settings Modified Death rules This week they've added the above and a ton of PvP combat/class changes. A bounty system is in testing, some guild vs guild stuff, and more. Glancing at their Test boards, it seems like they're really trying to offer a good PvP experience in Everquest. Took them awhile, but why now? They're not even doing it for EQII.

You answered your own question. They're not doing it for EQ2. So to keep those people who are interested in level-based PVP in an EQ-like game they have to revamp EQ's PvP in a manner satisfactory to those playing it.

That's not going to work for people interested in pvp who are not playing EQ currently. Let's see, we'll have to choose between a frew new WoW with a big focus on their pvp server , EQ2 with no pvp at all and old, outdated EQ mucking with a pvp system thats been out for years ? Please !

I don't think they're interested in EXPANDING their userbase, just in keeping the one they have. Which is why I said "in an EQ-like game." I don't place WoW in the "eq-like" category based on what I've heard from the folks playing it. It's a vastly different game, with some similarites at this point in it's life. It might become more eq-like when it puts in it's Raid content, but for now it's a lot more friendly, and has better PVP mechanics.

Yup I don't see this as a gain marketshare move it is more of a keep the ones you got happy because frankly eqlive still has ALOT of people playing it. If you can placate them and keep them plugging away thats a hell of a money stream and well worth maintaining.

Took them awhile, but why now? They're not even doing it for EQII. DAoC just released a new free PVP expansion, and since both games seem to copy each other quite liberally, why not now?

Oh, I figured since they've finally decided to provide PvP'ers with a better game/better rules, they'd invest those resources into EQII, in order to attract more customers, and which might be less complicated since it's on a clean slate (not that I'm advocating it or anything). Then again, maybe they've realized that the majority of the EQ playerbase is never going to leave. Ever...Not to WoW, not to EQII. Might as well make the best of it.

"this effectively removes item loot from Rallos Zek" Next they will remove all weapons and give everyone pillows instead.

Is it possible that EQ is being used as a test bed for future changes to EQII?
This of course is dependent upon whether you really believe SOE's message that they expect EQ and EQII to actually co-exist without the latter cannibalizing the former.

Except that Moorgard has already said that there will be NO PVP whatsoever in EQ2. No duels, no arenas, bupkiss. Nada, zip, zilch.
