The roster update got pushed back to around the 16th (Bastards!). Online leagues can be created before then, but if you don't schedule them until after the 16th, it'll use the new rosters.
The offline roster update (for your personal seasons) got pushed back to the 23rd. I'm in a very WTF stance on that. I wants me some updated offline rosters too.

For the record, I played 3/4 of a game last night. I couldn't find my manual (and the buttons are different than the EA football games, which is infuriatng), so it was of limited use. Now that football season is finally upon us I am feeling the primeval urge to kick a lot of ass, so I will be playing more often.

I have yet to set up my Xbox Live stuff, but this roster update crap is irritating. I'm tempted to buy Madden 2005 just to have current rosters.

Question from the armchair: I played a game with the Eagles just to get a feel for them and while on the whole I like em, I didn't see a single shotgun formation play in their book. Since the *cough*manual*cough* was about 10 words total, is there some simple way I can design my own plays that could beused in our league, or even just pull them from another teams playbook or am I stuck with what I got?

You can't design your own plays, but in single-player, you can use plays from other playbooks by creating your own playbook and mixing and matching plays from any other teams playbook.
Don't think you can do that in league play though.
