Just another random Hunter pet related bit:

If you go out and tame King Bangalash he now comes stock with Bite 6, Dash 2 and..."Cobra Reflexes"  a Rank 1 talent that and I quote here, "Attack speed is increased by 30% but damage done is reduced".  Supposedly this is/was a talent intended for Raptors that somehow got loose.

I'm not sure of actual base numbers, all I can give you is stats on the guy I have tamed.  I'm BM spec so I have +armor, +HP, Frenzy and all those talents down thru Bestial Wrath, plus I'm 3/5 Serpent's Swiftness.

So:

HP: 2124
Attack Power: 233
Damage: 84-105, DPS = 68.7
Attack Speed 1.37
Armor: 4039

Of course some of this is due to my recent attempt to get some decent +atk power gear and such, but still he's a killing machine with Claw and 2/2 Bestial Discipline.  I've stabled Hayoc for a bit to give him some gametime.

*Important Note* - If you untrain his stock skillset the Cobra Reflexes go bye bye, so be careful.  And I haven't seen any indication that I "learned" Cobra Reflexes from him either.

I'd like to take that as a sign that Blizzard is making it possible to customise pet attack speeds, in light of their recent normalisation thereof.

Hey Flood, whats your current and planned talent spec? How about your pet skills? I am at work so I can't do a direct comparison to my current cat pet (Broken Tooth), but when I do compare, I want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples and not to Woody's pony.

I've got Broken Tooth also.  I am concerned that this morning's patch might have leveled his attack speed.

Did they ever come up with an alternate way of learning pet skills, or are we stuck with the "have a stable slot open" method?

This morning?  What he didn't get normalized in last Tuesday's patch? He should have.

I think they were blowing smoke with all that BS.  It's still the 'have a stable slot open' method.  At least there aren't a ton of new skills out there yet that you'd need to putz with it.

Crud. I guess I'm going to have to haul my ass out to Winterspring and inspect cats. If King Bangladesh has it, I suspect that the cats in Winterspring have something similar. I'll also go wade into the corrupt Hunter forums over at blizzard.

My current build at 47 is: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cVbhzgxRVuc

If I tough it out solo to 60 I plan on: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=mVbhzgxRVuVoxx

I don't know if I could handle solo'ing to 70 so I won't bother posting my hypothetical build heh.

Most of my pet builds are PvP oriented since I'm on a PvP server, and I usually keep one "utility" pet.  I mentioned you can't retrain King B or you lose the uhhh feature.  So he has Growl, Claw 6, Dash 2, Prowl and Natural Armor 4 at this point because I haven't had him long enough to work up his loyalty beyond level 3.

And as far as speed normalizing, ALL pets in game should be normalized so don't kid yourself that BT is the exception.  I was pretty sad when I abandoned my SFK Worg that I had had for 20 levels, but that's the state of the game now.  *shrug*

To be honest, I hadn't looked at his speed since the last patch.  The patches are coming faster than I have ever seen lately.

So, they did normalize the attack speed, much to my chagrin. Looks like I need to start looking for a repacement to Bipolarbear.

I can't figure out whether I should go back to my owl or keep using my recently trained BT or find another pet of the month.

Any ideas?

I personally like boars best for PVE. They have good armor and hp, eat anything, and charge seems to generate better initial agro than other attacks. They just added gore to the attacks that a boar can use. Gore is sort of like claw, low cooldown, low dmg but with the focus regenerating talent it shouldnt run your pet out of focus too quick. I don't have that talent atm and my boar keeps agro fine even spamming gore.

At 70 in beta my boar had 12k armor.

Again caveat that I am BM spec and I play on a PvP server.

My philosophy on choosing a pet goes like this: Your pet, no matter what species it is, holds aggro just fine because your a BM spec.  It's not like you have to have something like Screech to mitigate your damage as a Marksman.  I choose a pet based on their damage potential.

My pet does two things for me - keep the monsters attention so I can pew pew pew, and deal damage.  My point is my Hayoc (Wind Serpent) is classed as a DPS pet with lower HP and AC, etc.  At level 44 and only Armor 4, he has over 4000 armor, and his health is 2400ish. (Just over mine).  Unless I really let my pet get in over his head, he "tanks" just fine.  I see absolutely no reason to sacrifice up to 10 DPS for the sake of 200 armor or 300 HP, since he already has enough to fulfill the role I use him in.

IMHO there's no other pet to use right now except a Wind Serpent.  Okay maybe a Snake since I have had my ass poisoned to death multiple times by this Dwarf bastard in my Battle Group....but I digress.   I have been making an effort to load up on +attack power gear, because I know better than to jump on the crit train with upcoming game mechanic changes.  Since Lightning Breath (and my pet himself) get the benefit of sharing from my +atk bump...it's sort of a no brainer.  The only reason I'm rolling King B around right now is "Cobra Reflexes" and his recent marginal DPS upgrade.

Like I said in a previous thread, I finally even abandoned my SFK worg that I had had since level 22 in favor of the new pets.  (Damn I miss a 1.3 attack speed wolf with one of the top 5 chase speeds in the game, ah good times)

Trust me, Wind Serpent = win.
Snake maybe.
Wolf if you are really concerned over armor/HP issues.

I'll reserve judgment on Boars until we see how Gore affects their DPS.

At 60 my boar outdmged my 1.3 wolf (deathmaw) before he got gore. I dumped the wolf when he got normalized because it's easy to pick up a wolf pet in bc, whereas I never saw one boar. I like lots of armor on my pets because I tend to solo a lot of elites, like the ice giants in winterspring, and every bit helps.
