Lets briefly assume that bans were 100% accurate, and not UO-style random witch hunt mixed with trial account closures.
This is a lot of gold farmers, I think this should be wake-up call for WoW developers that it is thriving industry. Perhaps some things should be adjusted (like mount costs) to be less gold-grind centric.
Thats the thing, other than the epic mount i just don't see what people need so much gold for in WoW. I always had a positive gold flow even as a hardcore raider, the only time i ever had to farm was for that epic mount. AH epics? anything thats world dropped was obsolete a year ago, i guess maybe rare crafting mats but i just don't see where this need for so much gold comes from, you really can't buy your way to uberness.
Twinking low level BG characters, and given what 90% of my money went to, buying stuff for rep turnins with the various factions.
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.
Yup, faction turn-ins, Thorium Brotherhood is several thousand gold if you're gonna buy the dark iron ore (and most people aren't a guild's chosen TB person, so they have to get the ore themselves if they really really want the faction).
