What?: RS:V
Where?: Live of course!
When?: Tonight (July 3) 9:30PM EST - 12 AM EST (ish)
What else?: You'll need to add me to your buddy list to get the invite. My live tag is Nixel.

Player's Pack Red (Free as of July 6th) AND Black edition are now free on XBL, so it's prime time to get playing this. The Black Edition maps are quite nice and Wartown is redonkulously hard for terrorist hunt. Let me know who's in!

I have a few questions.

  • Is there bad lag on live from one coast to another?
  • Are the games hosted centrally or would it basically be running from one of your 360s?
  • Are wireless routers still a pain in the ass to set up or are they configured out of the box such that one of my neighbours can't use my connection to download illegal stuff?

As long as I'm not called in to work I'll be there.  No promises though.

On call sucks.

You think I can plug in the 360 I got my bros for Christmas? Will they realize I've already played it once they get it?

I mean, there's like 15 days until Christmas for chris'sake!

I would love to do this, but im not sure if I can make it.

It seems that my 4th Xbox 360 is dying. As of right now, I cant get it to read any game discs. It just keeps saying, "To play this game, please put this disc in a Xbox 360 Console". Grrrrrrr.

I don't own Rainbow Six, apologies. I'm not even remotely good enough at squad-based shooters for them to be fun. :(

Schild, I have neither played, nor owned, a R6 game since the original. And even then, I didn't use the squad functions at all.

The squad-command system in Vegas is actually quite elegant I think. Also, I find it easier to aim/line up shots than in GoW. You should give it a shot.

- So far lag has been a non-issue. Don't run anything like torrents in the background while playing and usually everyone has full green ping.
- It's being hosted off my 360.
- Generally they're very easy to setup right now. Even the security options.

Schild: Squad based? The minute you load up the online for this game, the word "squad" disappears.

I feel bad for seriously replying to this, but it's possible. You can reset the system back to normal and they'd never know.

The moral justification could be to ensure it won't RED LIGHT DEATH on boot up and that the HDD is properly functioning. You're not playing it, you're testing it.

Well, I now have my 5th Xbox. And on the bright side, they gave me a Gift Card to buy another one, so I went and grabbed a new one, and they where running a promotion to get NBA2k7 free. So I got a new Xbox, and a free game. Oh yeah, I *forgot* to return the controller again, so now I have 4 controllers.

I'm trying to get my audio to work - one of these days I'll actually be able to play something. Anyone ever use the SPDIF input on their soundcard? I'm not sure how to get mine to pass through to the computer speakers.

Ooof. Trying to output via SPDIF to the PC soundcard then pass through to your computer speakers? Personally I wouldn't do that, I'd just disconnect the PC speakers and hook em up directly to the 360 via the RCA's.

Ideally - but I can't seem to get the SPDIF input to play on anything. I don't have a way to connect the speakers to the 360 - since the speakers use a stereo jack I'd have to get a female stereo jack to female RCAs which I don't have (and neither does walmart - radio shack is closed).

Hrm yeah that's a predicament. Personally then I'd hook up the 360 RCA output's to my TV's inputs and use the TV speakers. Less than ideal but you'd be playing with sound, pass through on the PC is going to be a endless round-trip torture of experiencing the divide between 'how things should work' and 'how things work'. Oh and i'll be on in an hour or so hopefully...

I don't have a TV in this room, it's all hooked up to my Dell monitor. (that's why the pain of getting audio).

Right now I have a composite extension hooked up to the audio going to my amp and then I plugged my speakers into the amp. Needless to say, there's a lot of wires running about waist high across the room. It works, which is good - but I'll need to do something else for my permanent setup.

Yah I thought of that, but GameStop nor Walmart had any. Too bad they don't have a DVI cable, but I might use a VGA->DVI adapter with one of those cables. Are you saying they replaced the optical out with an audio jack or is it an addition?

Edit: nevermind, I see that they include an adapter for doing RCA->Male audio jack which I assume is to plug into your computer.

Ah, sorry yeah shoulda thought that was the case. Yeah the VGA cable is your best bet in this case. I too would like a DVI cable but then it would have to be HDMI and apparently that's not happening for a while at least.

So I found the VGA cable for the 360 at Best Buy, which I was planning on using an adapter on to make it work on the DVI input to my monitor - but, thankfully and surprisingly, the guy at CompUSA set me straight with a 'you can't convert analog to digital with just an adapter'. Crap.

I guess I'm going to have to hook up my computer via DVI and the Xbox via VGA then - though this monitor has issues with colors via DVI which is why I don't use it in the first place! But at least the audio thing should be fixed with the composite to stereo jack adapter.

This whole X360-in-the-office thing has turned out to be a chore!
