So, my wife got me a white ds, brain age, and elite beat agents.  She made us open some presents early.

And then she proceeded to play the DS for 3 hours.

Wtf.

I'm happy though, gotta wait till post xmas to see if anyone got me any games, then play some that I want to play.

I lost possesion of my DS when my wife started playing Lost in Blue.

So I got a DS and have been playing Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center nonstop.

Phoenix Wright:  This game reminds me of the Encylopedia Brown books from when I was a kid.  That is, it basically plays itself, but you feel cool when you figure out what the 'contradiction' or relevent clue is.  I'm in the fourth case now, no clue how much I've played it but it has to be at least 10 hours.  I don't know why I find this game so enjoyable, as the gameplay is sorta irrelevent and it's not like the script is insanely good.

Trauma Center:  This game feels like the exact opposite of Phoenix Wright to me as far as gameplay goes.  Intense Bursts of craziness and potential massive frustration.  I have played it probably 1/5 of the amount I've played PW.  I feel like this game is a bit too...focused for me to really enjoy.  However, I'm sure I'll continue to play it...in short sessions.

I started FF3 but haven't played it more than 30 minutes.

Meteos is certainly cool at first glance, but I wonder if there is more to it than I have realized.  It seems just so utterly simplistic at the moment that I doubt I'll play it too much.

While not nintendo-related, I had one of 'those moments' last night. I was talking about games I needed to finish before I build my new pc (and get new games), and I mentioned Gothic 2, which I'm about 3/4 through. She perked up and said 'yay!' and then started quoting npc ambience dialog ("That's not what my husband thinks." "Who says things like that?" etc).

That's my girl.

Is the combat on that as annoying/awful as I hear? I was thinking about getting it, even though I rarely get into the oblivion-type games. I figure it's a few years old now, my computer can probably run the engine in 1920x1200 glory.

Ok.  What DS games should I get next?

So far...

Meteos:  Sorta meh.
Tetris DS:  Cool.
Phoenix W: Awesome chill-out game.
TC:  Perfect game to play for small doses when I feel like being challeneged.
FF3:  perfect game to play before going to sleep or in any chill-out state.  Fun so far.

I've decided I will always need one chill-out game to play, and one challenging reflex game.

I will be buying Phoenix Wright 2 soon (once i can get it off amazon).  So after that, what should I get?

List my next 5 DS purchases for me, please.  Consider the above reviews, and the guideline.  Also consider that I will buy a game roughly once every 2 weeks.  I need your usefully cynical commentary!  Prove it's....usefulness.

Cooking Mama. It's awesome. Sort of in the same vein of WarioWare...kind of.

Elite Beat Agents. It's a cool musical rhythm game, which I usually stay away from.

FF3 DS. Classes FTW.

Cooking Mama is nothing like Wario Ware other than each "thing" you do only takes a short amount of time. Cooking Mama is meant to calm, whereas Wario Ware is about frenetic bullshit.

Five next DS games? Eh? How about you aim that time at the GBA slot.

...unless you attemp the Use Skil!! portion of the game, in which case you give yourself carpel tunnel trying to Chop!! the third round. Some stuff, like peeling shrimp or making gyoza, I get Perfect! Genius! YOU DID WELL!! But everything else I get Mama's eyes of fire and it makes me angry.

I didn't realize cooking rice was so complicated.

Also, peeling carrots in that game is ASS.

Umm, cooking rice isn't complicated. Put in rice cooker > Add water > Press the On Button  tongue

Less water means sticky. More means moist.

Honestly though, sloppy, stovetop trailer trash rice is a guilty pleasure of mine. Never had it when growing up.

But have you cooked rice in Cooking Mama? There's like 8 different steps!

Then again, I don't cook, so what do I know?

Then again, I don't cook, so what do I know?

This is how I cook rice:

Take baggie out of box.
Put baggie of rice in a bowl.
Pour water on top of rice till the bowl is near full.
Press down on rice baggie and spread it around.
Put it in the microwave for 5-10 minutes depending on brand.
Combine with butter, soy sauce, red beans, corn, meat, or whatever else you might want to mix it with.

Oh microwave, what can't you do?
