Popular Import Shop, Lik-Sang, Shuts Its Doors

Gotta love the reason why, and I quote:

"Important Notice: Lik-Sang.com Out of Business due to Multiple Sony Lawsuits"

That's the title of the news posting at Lik-Sang. I'm exhausted, but wanted to get it up before it dissolved into the internet never to be found again. Full press release after the jump.

Well, that does it. Consider that the last nail in the coffin in my relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment. I was on the fence about a PS3 but now I will speak with my wallet.

Sony Computer Entertainment is finally catching up with the rest of the divisions.  Makes me want to play some Shadowrun.

A filthy friend of mine is playing a leaked copy of FF12 as I type this (which makes me grumpy), and Sony is shutting down retailers?  Amusing stuff.

Thanks Sony.

Moral of the story should have been;

Sony Exec: "Ahhh, so people are actually importing our shitty piece of broken hardware!? Let's try a world launch next time!"

Instead we get;

"European Gamers don't really mind waiting".

As Riggeswolfe said, Sony; My relationship with you is over. It was good while it lasted, but geeeeeeeee.....SUS!

So the kids on the internet say that you're a big noise?

Frankly, I don't care too much about this, I posted it because it was news. Lik-Sang was terribly overpriced. But this is a positively tasteless act by Sony.

I'm a whore.

For the time being, I'll reserve my useless outrage for the U.S. government. Sony will have to wait.

Thought FF12 already was released, saw a dude playing it at school just last weeks, and he has had the game for some time it seemed. It wasn't a jap version and this I live in Europe.

Naa, he had plowed 20 hours or something like that into it. He was pretty far into the game and demonstrated the AI system some when I was looking.

You can't really not ask yourself; "Who's in charge of PR at Sony?". Some yet unreleased character? I'm astounded by the ammount of blunders they keep making, all of it standing out like cringeworthy japanese misenterpetation of western commercialism.

So the kids on the internet say that you're a big noise?

Sony is saying that this Lik-Sang thing isn't their fault...

But it's just one of those situations where, even if they're overpriced gouging assholes, I'm still siding with the little man.

Yeah, Sony assraping an importer, no matter how big, is just more of their mindless douchey behavior that makes things like region-encoding so important. Region-encoding for a multinational corporation's products is beyond greedy bullshit. It's just bad business, IMO.

I never understood the damn point of region-encoding. Seriously, isn't it More expensive to have to segregate everything, in addition to being really. fucking. stupid.

It's called Arbitrage. The price they can get for their junk in some places exceeds what they can get for it in others, so they, e.g. region-code DVDs so they can sell 'em for lots in the UK/Europe, less in the US, and way less in Asia.

WOW way to screw the pooch AGAIN Sony....

Im just wondering if theyre making these blunders continually that its got to be related to "control" issues. Most old media are having serious issues in this area, just failing to understand that controlling the "platform" and the "market" is not possible.

What was Lik-Sang's business like recently? Last time I looked into them was a few years back when they were getting hammered by both Sony and Nintendo for selling mod chips and unlicensed third party stuff. Had they gotten rid of all of that by the time this final Sony issue shut them down?

I'm bummed; I bought my daughter's pink DS there, had a great experience, and was planning on doing more business with them.

I hope they reopen under a new name.

And yeah, fuck Sony.  Could they be any more clueless about PR?

Here's the thing about Lik-Sang.

Play Asia is better.
