Two interesting finds today.  First, there's a site called Wiixors.  Second, they have photos of the bottom/back of the Wii box hyoh.  Of note is the Mysterious Startup Disc.  The pictures look legitimate enough, but how can I take a site called Wiixors seriously?

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

They could very well mean the disc with Wii Sports on it, since that doesn't seem to be mentioned.

Maybe startup disk is Engrish for "free game included"

It could also host any sort of setup utility for things like internet connectivity, preferences, wiimote diagnostics/calibration, etc.

The Wii has a few apps. The network stuff and channel related stuff (browser software, photo and video managers) -- Perhaps all of that is included on the same disc as Wii Sports?

Then again, it sounds kind of sloppy to include that stuff on a Game Disc. It also seems unlikely that those bundled apps wouldn't already be installed by default in the OS.

An updated firmware flash perhaps?

I am going to go with "network client" since not everyone is going to be connecting their Wii to the usenet.  Maybe some other optional stuff, but I can't really think what that might be.

The Opera client is downloadable, or I assume so, since it's only going to be free until July '07.

Say what? I find it hard to believe that they didn't get some massive license for Wii users...And if they didn't, then why didn't they just use Mozilla code instead?

Because it would have taken the Mozilla squad years to get a workable prototype, while Opera already has a workable DS browser?  Leprechauns?

The company today went on board to confirm that Opera Wii will be available for free until July 2007 via the console’s Wii Shop Channel. From July 2007 onwards players must purchase the browser using Wii points (in the same way as downloading virtual console games). The number of points needed to purchase the browser has not yet been confirmed.

That's pretty stupid. The average customer should never have to pay for a browser. Anytime. On any platform. But especially in this case.

Didn't know they had a DS version already though. My bad.

The DS version is only available in Japan and Europe.
