I didnt know where to put this, so here it is.

Viewsonic 22 inch Widescreen Monitor

This monitor is at Costco right now for $350, and there is a coupon going around for $50 off. My friend bought it yesterday and I fillded around with it for 20 minutes. Looked really nice. So if anyone wants a cheap nice monitor go get one. I am debating if I should go pick one up also.

To put this price in prespective, the Dell 24 inch is $670.

I was just reading that Dell is going to drop the 20" widescreen to under $300.

I'm still not sold on LCD screens...I just get much better color and performance from my CRT.

As long as you never have to move it, sure. I had a great trinitron 21" monitor before I got the hdtv. Now, I'm considering the 20" widescreen I refer to above for my second pc (when I build a new one next year), I've been using one at work for over 6 months now and it's great.

I like not having to surrender 1/2 my desk space to the CRT footprint.

they don't make CRT in widescreen. I'm never buying another monitor that isn't widescreen.

A lot of games get a bit goofy when trying to go into widescreen resolutions. No thanks.

When my SyncMaster 770p+ dies, I'll move on.  It's not totally awesome but it is mostly awesome.

A few do, not a lot. A few won't do it at all. Most are fucking awesome.

Strazos. Your opinion is suspect. What budget do you currently have for a monitor if your's died tomorrow.

I would be without a PC if my monitor died tomarrow.

EDIT: Note that I was probably inadvertently referring to older games...probably.

What? The best CRT ever made is widescreen!

http://www.superwarehouse.com/HP_A7217A_24_CRT_Monitor/A7217A/ps/68210

Code:
Resolution 2304 x 1440 @ 80 Hz (Max)
Pixel Pitch
Center: 0.23 mm
        Edge: 0.27 mm
Display Area
Horizontal: 19"
        Vertical: 12.1"
        Diagonal: 24" (22.5" Viewable)

You can find these for $250-300 local pickup only off ebay. I'd buy one if shipping wasn't a concern.

Personally, I'll never go back to 4:3. I don't own a game that came out in the last two years that won't handle widescreen natively. In fact, I think the only game I have that doesn't support my 1680 x 1050 properly is Sims 2, but I just play that in 1600 x 900 and can't notice a difference.

Oblivion just looks weird to me on a standard monitor - the extra screenspace on the widescreen actually gets used for a wider FoV.

Getting it upstairs to my bedroom might be another matter entirely.

I play DotA a lot, and wc3 is not widescreen. It does suck, but I don't play in stretched I just have it center. It's not a huge deal. It's great for most if not all of the recent games that have been released, and for watching all my widescreen tv shows. WoW and my desktop support widescreen and I spend a majority of my time there.
