GameStop and EB Games stores will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii console on Friday, October 13, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to reach our limit very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at that time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $50 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.

Our limited online pre-order program will be announced at a later date, after software and accessory availability details are confirmed. Online product pricing and availability will vary and will be fulfilled independent of store reservations.

Call your local store if you're interested.  Mine says it's on, and they've received several calls already today.

Today is a first. I have pre-order a new console system to be purchased at launch. My wife was 7th in line to pre-order a Wii.

Despite being guaranteed four of them from my local GS, which we ended up getting without a problem, I still decided to camp out there at 5:30AM. I suppose it became a ritual years ago. I threw some money down on Twilight Princess and Trauma Center as well.

Putting $50 down on a Wii two days after dropping $100 and change on a PS3 and game reserves feels just goddamn ridiculous. I've come to terms with the cost of the PS3. I'd really like a blu-ray player (and HDDVD player for that matter) since the only tvs we have in the house now are HD.

But anyway, yea, done and done.

So I spend all day playing Federation Commander and Warhammer then jaunt over to Wally Mart with my DS 2 or 3 hours ahead of time.  (Con Ends at 8.  Bout a 20 minute drive.  Figure grab some dinner and get in line around 930-10.)

My friend and I went down to my EBGames. We got there about 3 hours before the store was opening. There was already 75+ people waiting in line, with the first 20 or so having camped out.

Those fuckers are welcome to the first few consoles. Ill get my some where that doesnt take preorders.

In case anyone would still like a shot at pre-ordering, apparently Toys-r-us will begin taking them on 10/29.  I can't be arsed for a link at the moment but there have been multiple articles on Digg about it.

Yep, and those rumors were spurred by the first Wii entry in the Best Buy tracking system. Which is to say, unless there's a sneak launch (which there probably won't be), Nintendo would be dumb as a motherfucker to put Wiis in the hands of teenagers making $7.50/hr.

My local store had the 360, DS, Gamecube, and Xbox all at midnight their first day of release.  (Dunno about the PSP but it sucks so who cares?)
For some reason I have little fear. And worse comes to worse and I miss out big whoop de doo.  My life was not impacted in any way by having to wait a
couple months for the 360.  Hell, it gave me a better system and Oblivion was out!
