Stupid andriod phone. Something occasionally just decides to eat my damn battery. Go to bed at 100%, wake up at 6:00 with 99%, fiddle with a few things and then decide to go back to sleep, wake up two hours later at....52%? WTF?

WiFi off, GPS off, turned down to 2G....

Something I routinely futz with, an app or possibly the browser, apparently doesn't shut down cleanly or just keeps eating battery in the background.

Sounds like you need some kind of a task killer app. I quite like my program manager widget on my Epic, I think it might be part of Samsungs's TouchWiz UI.

I thought I remembered seeing an Android app that let you see how 'active' your background apps were... maybe something like that would help you pinpoint the culprit?

On my android (Milestone 2) that appears to be due to the Voice Commands process which is something I never use or want to use but can't disable for some reason.

So... spent a couple hours at the emergency vet tonight with my cat. Smeagol has a real bad eye infection from an upper respiratory infection. He's going to an eye doctor tomorrow to see if it will heal with medication or if they'll have to do surgery. Eye removal was mentioned briefly. :(

To look on the bright side, a one-eyed cat is sorta badass.

They usually don't like to keep the patch and pirate hat on though.  And that totally sucks. I still swear I sometimes see the cat I had to put down out of the corner of my eye.

If you track down the specific culprit, let me know. Mine does the same from time to time.

it doesn't happen when I task kill everything. I think either I had a browser window open downloading a lot of crap in the background, or some app doing the same.

Now for another "goddamn I feel old" moment.

My son started watching Power Rangers on Disney XD with the Samurai rangers.  He then found they had full seasons available on Netflix and began watching them.  This made me chuckle until I looked at the date of the first season, 1993, which made me do the math.  Yes, the Power Rangers have been on TV for 18 years.  ACK! Get off my lawn!

All I know about the Power Rangers is that the pink one was nekkid on the internet before Internet Explorer 1 was released!

My wife didn't believe me when I told her that was the only reason she had a carreer after the Power Rangers yesterday.  I had to hunt it down to prove her wrong.

Any update on Smeagol?
The eye doctor thinks that if the medicine he's on now doesn't help then she's going to sew his third eyelid shut to put pressure on his cornea to try and force the swelling down. I'm giving him eye drops, two different gels that I put a strip across his eye and some oral medication for his upper respiratory infection. He is NOT a fan of me right now since I'm doing two meds every six hours and the other two every twelve.

He contracted feline herpes virus somehow so that's where the infections came from, 80% of cats carry it so I guess it's quite common? I've spent about $500 so far with a follow-up appointment this Thursday. It can't be at a worse possible time because we're getting ready to move right now, too.

No, I'm just moving to South Austin. Much closer to work and living north where I am now is kind of bland compared to central or south.

Really, finance person?

Quote from: email to my boss
Thank you for the note and follow up.  Could you please be so kind to send all the supporting documents for the approval of this PO.  I need the SOW,  summary of project and how this vendor will contribute to it,  beneficiary of the *** project (*** **?),  if applicable the vendor release form or price comparative analysis , and any other support documentation.

Also please confirm that these expense has been approved as part of your latest UPD or LBE departmental expense budget.

I understand that you may have already discussed this with ***, but as she is out I will appreciate resending the documents directly to me.

I'm pretty sure I've whined about this person before.  The approval for this PO requisition has been sitting her her queue for a week now, there is no freaking reason for it to take this long.  I get she's finance but asking if it's part of our budget?!?  She apparently needs to be briefed by her underlings each time something comes along at her approval level.  This is why we try to keep our POs at her underlings approval level (I can explain directly to my finance person) and or we push it above this woman's level so the requisition will go to her boss for approval.  Because anything that hits this woman's queue takes forever to get approved and moved along the queue.

Because we really just love arranging everything with the vendor, getting the SOW set up, signed by the vendor and our department, then waiting 3+ weeks just to get the PO before the vendor can start work.  Does wonders for the project timelines.  swamp poop

Some people seem to get lots of enjoyment or a feeling of importance from being the roadblock which stops work in the enterprise.  Currently this is the leader of one of our change management systems.  Fortunately the "light side" CR group slapped down a control grab by the "dark side" CR group.  Or CR leader, really.

Don't ask why we have two independent change systems. Ohhhhh, I see.

Yeah, we've become pretty sure that's what this woman is doing - enjoying her powertrip and lording it over us that way.  We just can't fathom why she's doing it just to us though.

Eh, I don't need to ask, I used to work for the same place.  Redundancy was common and logic didn't seem to always factor into why something was done.  Glad the light side overcame the dark side though.

It's a huge state and Austin is a tech (and game company) capital.  Houston surpassed 2 million in the city proper and 8 million in the surrounding areas.

That we have a small handful that grew up within the same 20 miles of BFE, Ohio... now that is weird.

I'm not disparaging it.  If three or four people said they grew up or lived near the Lake Jackson area I'd be amazed, too.  On another board I'm one someone did that and we got to be all "small world!" together.

It's still weird to have a bunch of people from a tiny geographical area with a low population.

I'm surprised there aren't more California folks.  Other than that it's not too surprising that there are a lot of folks living in Texas here, for a variety of reasons, most of which Lantyssa already brought up.  However a couple of other things contribute as well:  1.  Texas is growing like crazy-  something like 20% growth since prior census, and 2.  There are a ton of military bases and military folks like to game, it seems.

Oh, well this is actually a The Coca-Cola Company management issue.  I've never met a HP CM person.  I don't think HP actually read the contract before they signed, but in any case Blue is not able to do change management for Red.  Also Red owns all of the hardware and software, minus some raised-floor in Tulsa.

Also anyway, I am tired of this job.  I'm looking for some advancement and apparently it's only management.  So that's what I'm looking at.

Dude, you have a change management system.

The ISP I used to work at didn't, and they didn't see a need for it.

Of course, the departments that would have most benefited from having one were the same groups that never documented tickets so their co-workers would have no clue what the fuck the $150 an hour field technicians had been told to do on the last 7 phone calls.
