It gets better after a day or so.
It does. I was finally able to keep food down after about the 3rd day or so. Then the recovery was pretty much extremely quick after that.

My wisdom teeth were growing sideways down the line of my jaw and pushing my other teeth out of the way. Not sure how a rigorous oral hygiene regime would have fixed that.

My wisdom teeth grew in correctly and actually fit mostly fine, but they were starting to shift and annoy my other teeth so I finally had them removed (at age 27 or so). I was lucky, my sister and dad both require jaw surgery to get theirs out and mine was just a standard extraction (except one had fused a bit to the jaw requiring more work and was the source of the irritation). But I do brush, sadly it didn't help

That's likely due to the anesthetic used during extraction. It will get better.
All I had was Ambien and locals. Were it a general I'd definitely say that's the problem, since I always have problems with them once I'm out of surgery. The Etodolac might be the cause this time. It's not one I've taken before and I'm still having some problems today, though not nearly as bad. If its any consolation Lantyssa, I have to get oral surgery myself. They're gonna lift the gums on the front teeth, go in with a bone drill, make a hole, clean out an infection at the base of a tooth's dead root canal, then squirt cement in there, then stitch it up. Oh, and did I mention that its just local anesthetic? I'm so excited!
No consolation since I'd rather you didn't have to suffer, but I hope your recovery goes smoothly.

So. I'm sitting here about an hour and a half after dousing my face with boiling oil. Was rushing around the kitchen and dropped the pot roast in the pan to brown...the wrong way, splashed a couple tablespoons of hot veg oil right in my face. Got pretty much the entire upper left area, from the cheekbone around the orbital ridge and 3/4 across the forehead. Good thing is, it hurts (no nerve damage). Two sections sloughed off due to my first aid (soaking a kitchen towel in cold water and slapping it on my face seconds after it happened), and the sloughed (2nd degree) areas are only about an inch round. Couple smaller points might creep into 2nd if they blister. A lot of 1st degree. The really good thing is, I was wearing my glasses. Otherwise I'd be at least half blind right now. I rarely wear my glasses, so it was very fortunate. Would've really fucked with 3d gaming After a half hour of sweet, sweet cold compress, I've got some neosporin ointment on it. Annoying low level constant pain, but I wanted to get some anti-bac onto the exposed fleshy bits. And the ointment is all weepy, so I can't do anything but lie here. I'm already bored out of my mind. Going to try some gaming and hope the ointment doesn't weep into my eye, heh.

Look what his squirrel hating ways did to Sky. Do you want to go down the same path?
And for that level of burns on the face, I'd go see a doctor.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

You guys can make fun of me since last week I decided I didn't really need to fill up the propane tank and now people tell me I'll be snowed in on Monday. My wife is telling me that they won't send out a propane truck on icy roads.

Sounds like you need a wood stove.
As far as the burns go, I get 1st degree burns all the time. Run it under a little water and it's cool, I don't scar at all from those (mostly touching a hot iron pan or bumping the edge of the wood stove when loading it).
The second degree jobbers are a bit worse and I'm seeing the fiancee's mom tomorrow (she's a retired nurse who I talked to after I administered first aid to myself).
I missed a bit of the 1st degree down by my ear when I was running water over it as first aid, it's a pretty good demonstration of the effectiveness of that first aid technique, since that little spot is red and except for the 2nd degree spots (where epidermis has been removed), you can barely even see the first degree region.
Last note, neosporin ointment is some really awesome stuff. Cold compress (cloth wet with cold water in plastic so the fibers didn't stick to the burn) was like heaven. Then the period when I cleaned up so the fiancee could apply the first treatment of ointment and the time until the topical anesthetic kicked in was fucking awful. Since then it's barely noticeable. Not looking forward to showering and I will definitely need to find some appropriate bandaging before going in public :) Either bare skin zombie or wrapped like a mummy, I'm undead up in here, yo.

It really is. I used to use it regularly on areas that got damaged or burned. My face thanked me profusely for such treatment and it kept scarring down to next to nothing.

Nurse said everything is great. No infections and my first aid was good (doesn't hurt that I just went through first aid training again a month ago). At work now but not sure if I'm sticking around all day. My medication is drippy and I can't wear a bandage yet, the medication keeps the wounds moist and even non-stick bandages with bind to it. So it's kind of scary looking, I'm trying to stay at my desk. I pity the first person with a tech issue It's rather amusing, since (with the topical pain killer) I'm not feeling it and walking by anyone makes them . Been a rough year for my face, I got an infection on my chin from a cut last year and got a nice inch long scar. I guess the gods have decided I have spent enough of my life being so goddamned good-looking.

I had a big burn on my leg from a motorcycle exhaust and the only thing that worked was big gauze pads and tape well outside the affected area.

They just closed schools in NC because they are afraid they're going to get an inch or so of snow and the kids won't be able to make it home.

While 9" of snow in Atlanta is crazy stuff, it's amusing as all get out to hear about places closing over a measly inch of snow. Honestly? I understand the whole "w don't usually get snow around here" but an inch? That should barely register to anyone sane, IMO.

An inch is dangerous if you can't remove it and don't have anything to melt it once it turns to ice from people driving over it, particularly on back roads. It's the same reason they close schools here in Ky for 1-2 inches at times, we've run out of salt.

What Merusk said. Municipalities can't afford to stock equipment for once a decade events like a snow. None of us has experience driving on ice or snow either. That makes us either a danger to ourselves or others a danger to us. It's better to just wait it out.

Heathrow Airport (fourth busiest airport in the world) winter resilience contingency plan was only designed to keep the airport fully operational if less than an inch of snow fell.
