I had some neighbors post college that had a Jack Russel. He literally ate the leg off of their kitchen table. The dog was Satan.

My great-aunty had a Jack Russell that was also pure evil. There was a children's TV series called Worzel Gummidge that was filmed in her village and for one show they needed a dog that would reliably chase the title character (played by Jon Pertwee) for a scene. Everyone immediately proposed Tandy (my great-aunt's dog) who did indeed chase Worzel and needed to have his jaws removed from Jon Pertwee's leg with the intervention of the first aid team.

I'm quite sure with his reputation, John Pertwee fucked your great aunt in return.
So, it all worked out.

My neighbors have two small chicken enclosures, a racoon got into one two nights ago. That was one of the most terrifying sounds I have ever heard.

So new computer came with new keyboard/mouse combo. Nice Logitech wireless pair, except that I simply cannot seem to get used to the mouse. I was actually kind of looking forward to using one since my trackball has been getting a tiny bit flaky and I can't replace it, but everything just seems off with the mouse. I have no problems using a mouse at work or on the laptop next to me, but using it on my main comp is killing me. I may have to install the trackball afterall. I so liked not having cords laying about on the desktop...

If I remember correctly you had an Microsoft Optical Explorer trackball, when mine died I replaced it with a cordless Logitech one which has been great for me. I actually wish that it wasn't cordless though because I'd rather not need to worry about batteries and it's not as though the cord on a trackball gets in the way of moving it around.

I had a similar experience with a microsoft mouse. It actually put me off non trackball mice for a couple of years, as I felt that the lack of response wasn't worth it. I have a light mouse now though, works great, though it is corded.

Do you use that one with your right hand? I've been thinking of getting a trackball but I think I'd rather use my thumb to move the mouse, than my index/middle fingers. Is that how you use that one?

...but everything just seems off with the mouse.
My problem was there is a finite amount of lag between moving the mouse itself and cursor movement on the screen if the mouse isn't actively being moved (such as reaching for it when it's been idle a few seconds). Corded mice I am sure have the same delay, but it was VERY noticeable and affecting my gaming with a cordless mouse, so I had to go back to a corded mouse (even though they don't really make any good corded mice anymore).

Not sure what you're talking about; my Razer has never had a delay. With all the shooters I play, it would be noticeable.

You clearly have not used a Logitech G9

I used a Microsoft and Logitech wireless mouse. I don't remember the model numbers off the top of my head. This was about 3-4 years ago, so things may have been improved. All I know is it drove me absolutely nuts to have it hesitate like it was on both of them, and nothing I could find indicated there was anything I could do about it. You clearly have not used a Logitech G9
I've looked at those... and I am not sure I like the grip position my hand will be resting in. It seemed like a big chunk of change to spend for something I may end up hating. Gamers swear by them though, so maybe I'm missing out.

Oo, that is close to the Microsoft trackball. I may have to look into getting one of those. Thanks, Iain! As for any movement delays, I've not noticed any with the new mouse, but then I only play EQ2 atm so there isn't too much to worry about. Maybe I'd see something if I were playing an FPS which requires a more responsive mouse though. I just know that my upper arm hurts like hell after I've been on the comp for a bit. Oh, forgot to reply to Viin - using a thumb trackball versus a finger one just comes down to preference mostly. I started with a thumb version, but it wasn't comfortable to work with in Photoshop, so then I switched to the finger model. I also tended to get cramps at the base of my thumb even after I'd been using it for a while (err... using it over several months I mean) while I never had issues with the fingers. And you can use multiple fingers for fine control versus just the thumb. At least, that was my experience. Only "pain" I ever had was when I'd really been on the comp a long time doing some finicky detail work and my forearm muscles would ache, but that wasn't typical.

The logitech trackman series is probably what you're looking for Viin. It's what I've been using for more than a decade now, in it's various iterations, hand in normal mouse position, move the ball with your thumb. I use it for pretty much every game type without any issues at all, but I've a lot of practice with it. The one Rhyssa linked is the reverse. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/trackballs/devices/166edit: this assumes right handedness, not some weird southpaw jiggering of existing form factors.

Mostly no. I bet it's doing wonders for their "most used internet site" ranking though.
On trackballs I prefer the thumb kind, however it takes a bit of getting used to and they're not optimal for shooters. They cause me a lot less wrist strain though, so I like them for that alone given the amount of time I spend in front of a computer.

The search is annoying me because if you click in the whitespace, it pulls up the page preview. Being multi-monitor at home and work, I click in the whitespace to set application focus before scrolling... It might be an ok feature if you had to click on the magnifying glass alone to get the previews, but as it is, I adblocked it out of existence. Used to love the simplicity of Google's model, but they seem bound and determined to undo that as time goes on.

I just type and hit enter before anything can go wrong. It would suck to break a bone or get a hernia while google searching.

Just click farther out in the whitespace, it only gives you the preview if your click is in the little 'box' around a given result.

I had a sudden and startling discovery today: the classic "The More You Know" logo with the rainbow text and shooting star only aired until 2002. Lots of folks no longer know what the shit I'm talking about when I reference it or paste it into emails.
This makes me inexplicably sad.

So I got my first call about scheduling an interview in a month and a half this morning.
It is for a permanent stagehand position at the arena at the university.
Of course, the guy tells me they are looking for someone with a strong background in sound and that is probably my weakest area (though I always liked working with it). Plus I never liked running shows. Ever. But it is an interview.
Only a 9 month position though (they are closed when the U has no events in the summer).
