Further testing of splenda reveals is doesn't have the same negative effect on me as aspartame. It's definitely the diet cokes of the world that are rocking my socks. Unfortunately the only soda I can find with splenda in it so far is Diet Rite.
Coke zero is sweetened with a blend of aspartame and acesulfame. That may be more to your liking. Neither sweetener (aspartame nor spenda) bothers me at all. I seem to just prefer the taste of aspartame. Splenda is just too "thick" tasting for me.

Coke Zero and whatever the Pepsi equivalent are both using sucralose (splenda) afaik.
EDIT: Apparently I was wrong and nebu hit reply first anyway. I have not had a soda in almost 6 months and nothing with caffeine in more than a year and a half so I was going on hearsay from people who drink diet sodas.

According to the can, Coke Zero is aspartame now. I don't think they make Pepsi One anymore. They make Pepsi Max, which is also aspartame. Bastards.

Yeah, I have a Coke Zero right here in my hand and it is definitely aspartame. I don't know why it doesn't have the horrible Diet Coke aftertaste, but I am sure glad it doesn't. I went from probably 400-500 calories worth of soda a day to 0 pretty much entirely because Coke Zero is actually drinkable. I am pretty sure I can credit a lot of the 25 pounds I've lost since February to that change. It certainly makes hitting a 1700 calorie daily target much easier.

A few of the stores near my house have Diet Coke with Splenda. It's hit or miss if a place will have it though. (I think Target has Diet Coke with Splenda)

The other sweetener masks the aspartame flavor. It is common to mix sweeteners to cut the aftertaste of one (or both).

It appears I've found some substitutes. Publix generic diet sodas are all sweetened with Splenda

(edit) durr, I hit reply to talk about Coke Zero without seeing there was another page. I too am mostly off soda these days, and drink water and green tea at work instead. It seems like I'm having fewer headaches and less heartburn these days, but I'm not positive it's related.

Congratulations on the new job! Customer service? Ironwood as a CSR for a week would probably be the best damn comedy ever. Before the lawyers got involved.

I've always wondered did Pratchette invent that or is it an actual belief held by some group?

Pratchett doesn't make much stuff up : He plumbs a lot of actual folklore. I'm tempted to think he got it properly from somewhere. Some background reading here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror#Mirrors_and_superstitionEdited to add : I just realised that I'd known about two mirrors and souls before I ever read Witches Abroad (I remember making this same joke at Uni), so I'm guessing there are other texts that talk of it. I've read a LOT of texts. Sorry I'm not much more help.

Wendy's spicy chicken nuggets are actually somewhat spicy. This was surprising given the most "spicy" fast foods taste like mild ass.

Ah,yes. I love people. I recently had a mediated settlement in which an individual was supposed to pay me a significant chunk of money in response to a breach of a non-competition agreement by September 30th. They just blew right through the date with no indication at all of what they are doing. Looks like it's off to court for me! Edit: My fuckstick attorney has had the check for two days now. I feel better (I think).

Congrats on the lateral move, Chedder. Is it a better position or one you'd rather do instead of what you had been doing?
Good luck, ghost.
It's worth the hassle of packing up the laptop (good lords, I need to dust!) and all the study books to head to Panera and leech off their wifi for an afternoon. Something about just getting out of the house makes me more productive. Or maybe it's the Chai Tea Latte.

When I was unemployed I had to get out of the house in order to get things done. Dressing for work and leaving each day on a schedule gets you in the right frame of mind, even if it's just going for a morning coffee and coming back at noon.
