Whitewater rafting for sure. I'd also spend a day at Estes Park and possibly a trip to Pike's and Long's peaks. If you're more domesticated, go to a baseball game. The stadium is wonderful and there are some great beer joints and restaurants nearby.

I've driven up Pike's Peak, and will do so again. Baseball seems to be the most tedious thing ever to me, but keep the ideas coming. The only things on the agenda so far are Pike's, that little theme park in Denver (Elitch's?), and King Tut at the Art Museum.

There's a chili and beer festival in Snowmass. I've never been to it. The only thing I've ever done in Colorado is ski and that was a million years ago. Anyway, George Clinton will be there. It'll be colourful. You can get drunk, eat chili and fart. I know someone who goes there for rafting, too, and you don't just get the scary sort of rafting, either, in case you're the lazy or lardy butt sort. He has a handicapped daughter and they had tours suitable for her.

The Denver Aquarium is pretty cool, though a bit pricey to get in. http://www.aquariumrestaurants.com/downtownaquariumdenver/ (the shitty Flash site does not do the place justice). Last time I was there they had lions. (!!!) Lots of places to eat/drink at in downtown Denver. Coors Field is right on the outside of downtown, so if you went there you'd have access to all the normal baseball pubs and then restaurants/etc on the main drag (16th Street) a few of blocks away. Some good shows up at Red Rocks during that time too. http://www.redrocksonline.com/Calendar.aspx

Bringing my FJ, and Coors sucks.
The chili / Parliament thing would be great fun, but I don't get there until just after it, and it's a long way from the part of the state I'll be in.

I'd recommend Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - a really cool zoo which has the distinction of being built on the side of the hollow mountain that houses NORAD (and the Stargate Command). If you want hinkey tourist stuff then Manitou Springs is quite nice in a crunchy-granola kind of way. It's the terminus of the Pike's Peak Cog Railway as well as home to streets full of classic arcade games - play Pac Man, Galaxxians, Donkey Kong and so on the way you were always supposed to. There's some good poker rooms to be found in Cripple Creek too, it's an old gold mining town that is now a casino town. It's all on one street and you can take the Ramblin' Rose bus to get there from a variety of stops between there and the Springs. I usually spend most of my time in the Midnight Rose. Pueblo Reservoir to the south of the Springs is a nice nature reserve and watersports lake. I don't know if they have a hire centre though. Finally Garden of the Gods is a pretty interesting guide to the geology and local history of the region as well as a beautiful natural park.

Beer Garden of the Gods is fun, but last time I drove through it was full of near-naked German tourists. Hundreds of them. I don't think I can ever go back.

Lum's blog provides comedy again. Not just in the topic at hand (which is the risible community outreach efforts of the GOP) but in the comments where a new challenger washes up against the adamantine fortress of Geldon's genius. Edit: Holy fuck he keeps going. And he plays the More Maturer Than Thou card too!

Ahahaha, "See this fact proves you're wrong." "No I'm not." "Yes, look at this fact. This fact that utterly negates everything you've said and demonstrates you have no idea what you're talking about." "See you're repeating yourself, this is clearly an appeal to emotion." My God it's like staring into an event horizon of idiocy every time he talks.

Masonry house ftw. In the high 80s and low 90s the last couple days, hasn't gotten more than mid-70s in my house by managing things properly. Thermal curtains, shut down during the day, open up and use strategic fans at night. Haven't even taken the a/c unit out of storage. I've also developed this odd tolerance for the heat, maybe because I was running the wood stove over the winter and the living room was in the 80s pretty regularly. Hell, it was mid-80s and humid and I was outside sanding trim. A bit sweaty, but it felt good (and there was a breeze). In Useless News, I have a hairstyle for the first time since 1987. I've always just let it grow or buzzed it off. Kinda fun. Another donation to Locks of Love

Another donation to Locks of Love I definitely need to replace the windows here with some quality double pane thermals - that'd go a long way, but is also expensive so goes on the list of other home projects to do at some point when I have excess cash.

We put aside a certain amount every month in a joint account set aside for the house. We keep a list of major projects and when the account hits one of those estimates, we do the project.
Of course, the living room came in at double the budget, but my rule is double whatever you calculate the budget to be, and don't be surprised if it triples. Especially in old houses where opening up the walls brings all kinds of discoveries. Really should have pulled my giant front window out and done some masonry repairs and re-framed and trimmed it, but the money just ran out. Couldn't put in new flooring, either, which really sucked.
Anyway, on windows: check for energy credits, there's lots of money floating around for exactly what you need to do.

Enjoy! Hopefully you didn't book anything for the Gulf Coast In other news, it has seemed like Friday to me for about 36 hours now, so the last few hours before quitting time are going to be excruciating.

And I'll be staying at my sister's taking care of her dog and various rescued monsters while she's away doing whatever it is she does when she's away. Hopefully I'll come back to a sane husband and healthy cats. If he forgets to feed Lister, even once, he'll be eaten himself!

It sounds like he needs to train Lister how to monitor networks. Then they can trade-off taking cat naps.

So, I know a kid who got a letter from Uwe Boll alleging that he downloaded one of his movies, so he has to pay up like $2k.
And the kid is actually trying to take out a loan to pay...lol.

He should make his own showing the physical pain he went through watching the thing. Seriously. Who would you give the 2K to?

Well, first, the letter was not even addressed to him; was addressed to his parents. Second, the id has no damn assets; he's broke and works at WalMart.
I told him to not pay, of course.

If Uwe Boll was sending me mail asking for money, I'd call the police. He hits people. Demand protection. Move to Albuquerque.
